  1. Good luck on the build! I'm the process of my build as well. There is lots of help available here from resources and fellow members. Have fun and I'll be following your thread! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Plus bottom of helmet on the right side. There seems to be a gap between the front and back on the right side. It's not noticeable though from the outside from what I see. What about you guys? This is the inside of helmet so far. Do I need to start from the beginning and close the gap between the right side? Would that fix the left side on the bottom? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. So I redone the holes and this is where I'm at so far. There's this little gap here though. The ear doesn't seem to fit or hid the crossover section. :/ What should I do? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Ok I'll do that. This helmet has been a pain but in loving building this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I think I have figured out the right position for the helmet. I just want some other people's opinions before I screw any new holes in the left side. Is the position of the black brow and eyes in specifications? Any help will be great. This helmet is a hard one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Holy moly...thanks everyone for saving my helmet. That would have been an expensive mistake. I'm glad I checked the forum today. I'll try the techniques that everyone so far has mention. I'll post photos soon. Will be absent for a day or two for vacation. Any advice or tips while I'm away will be greatly appreciated. Especially with helmet or armor since I'm getting ready to start the rest of the TK build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. So I was following Navajo Bro's thread on the helmet build as well as advice from SheaJeff. I followed the instructions and starting putting the helmet together. I can see where there black brow is uneven. I'm going to try Navajo Bro's way he did it to fix the uneven black brow trim. The ear has a big gap between the curve. Any advice on how to fix it? Heat gun? Need to install lens into the ear screws still. Hoping I'm on the right track. Thanks to those who have been helping and giving advice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I went ahead and took lucnak's suggestion. I went over my edges with one solid motion and I think they look much better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Thanks for the advice. Yea they looked a little uneven. I'll go ahead and do the one smooth motion over the edges today. I just do the dabbing to set the outline but it makes it uneven. The frown wasn't done using the dabbing method. I used small strokes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Went and painted the grey layer today over the black. Front traps Left: Right: Back traps: Waiting for paint to dry to paint lines on them. I was able to finish the tears under eyes fully today. Front tears: What it looks like from front I went back and free handed the vocoder a bit more. Looks way better now. Goals for tomorrow: 1) Finish rear traps 2) Put helmet together w/lens. -lens screwed in by ears 3) paint ears with appropriate paint guidelines Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Now we switch to the bigger brush I mentioned. This is where we will begin to fill in the rest of the tear just like I did here. I used testors #1747. After you get a nice layer down within the outline you can get ready to darken the outline that we started. Darkening the outline: Using the small brush used to create the outline, we will go over the line with a few layers. Hopefully that makes sense. To do this I went ahead and used the same dabbing method I first used. This helps to add another layer of paint without leaking paint or painting unwanted areas. After going along the outline using this method, I went painted one more layer on top. Following the edges that your outline made is easy and this last layer will give it a nice darker color. If you make a mistake don't worry. You can either fix it with a little more paint around the edge or use a toothpick with some paint thinner. Well there you go. Hopefully this helps everyone on free painting. It can be time consuming but it will be worth it in the end. Tomorrow I'm going to work on adding the gray layer on top. 12. So after a mishap with the decals I decided to hand paint. From the sources, knowledge, and outstanding people on this site, this was how the originals in ANH were done. I know there are a lot of people who can find painting a bit nerve wracking. I also know there are templates and tutorials on how to hand paint them, but this is how I went about it: So I first taped off the area of traps that I was going to paint. It's the same as the frown. Just tape the shape you want and the areas you don't want paint to touch. I went ahead and did the first coat. I then waited a few hours and applied the second coat. Not looking to bad I think. I then did the exact same steps for the back left trap. I'm going to let both dry out overnight since its 9:54 at night in California haha. Now for the front tears I decided to free hand this area without any masking tape. I did this because the tape can get in the way of a nice shape and line. Plus I wanted more experience in free hand. What a time to want to get better at free hand right? Haha. So for those who want to attempt this, you can follow these steps if you want. Step 1: You will need these two brushes. This brush will be used for the finer details such as the outer lining of the tears. This brush will be used to fill in the majority of the tear. Step 2: Start by using the small fine brush with just a tiny bit of paint on it. Not to much otherwise it will leak into places you don't want. From here I went ahead and did a dabbing motion around the edge of the tear. Don't have to put a lot of pressure just enough to paint a light layer. This is what it will look like after the first round using the dabbing method I just mentioned. Don't worry if it's super light or slightly transparent. Your just trying to make the outline. 13. Thanks for the advice on where to look. My helmet won't be built for another day or two. I really want to get this paint job right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Well today has not been as productive. Tried to put some decals on. My hand was so shaky that air bubbles got under the decals. Tried to fix it and ended up ripping the decals. Looks like I'm going to have to hand paint. I heard the hand painted looking decals look the best but my hands can't stay still to save my life Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Good job on the progress! I can seem to find my decals or lens. Might go to Home Depot and get a welding green lens. Seems to be of stronger and darker material. Can I still put helmet together and then put on all the decals last? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. This question is open to anyone. Does anyone know which screws are for the bucket? Ears? Or My kit didn't come with instructions. These screws came out of the packaging that include the inside head harness/mic tips. What about anyone else who has done or seen an AM 2.0? I haven't been able to find a thread so far that details specifically which screws. Unless I'm blind. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. So I can cover up the indents right there using the technique you used? Just asking since I don't know if I'll be able to fix the indents Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So far today, I repainted the vocoder with a second coat. Starting to get better. 2nd coat: I also went and did a second coat on the frown. 2nd coat: I worked on installing the hovi Mics as best as I could. I look at some threads and improvised from there. Since the AM helmet isn't properly proportioned, the same goes for the areas where the mics must be placed. So I went ahead and bought rubber washers since from what I see, they give a great hold on the plastic. I went ahead and lined up the first mic as straight as I could. Drilled a hole and did this. I did the same steps as the first mic. I worked at aligning them both so they would look straight. Then installed the second one. Does this look right? It seems straight to me. What do others think? I also made the mistake and tightened a little to much. It's not noticeable on the outside at all. The inside not so much. Will this slow me down anyway or count against me? Could I cover the area up with smoke or black foam? Since I was thinking of adding foam into the side for look and comfortability. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. This is going to help me a lot. Thank you. Alligning this helmet is such a pain.
  20. Thanks for the tip. I'll do that today so that I can go over it again tomorrow.
  21. Thanks for the advice. I really like how the original helmets from ANH were hand painted. It really gives off a nice feel to the whole set up
  22. I moved my thread to the actual build thread since I put it in wrong place. For the paints I ordered humbrol which is the most common used I've read. While waiting for the order I looked at this conversion chart for humbrol to Testors paint. Here is the link for the conversion chart. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/21569-paints-for-anh-stunt-helmet/ For the inside of the helmet I used plasti dip which some people use when I was reading through threads. Good luck on your build man. I'll follow your thread if you have one so I can see how your building yours. Good luck!
  23. Today's project is working on tackling the exterior paint job. Hopefully my experience with painting models and miniature figures pays off...even if it was years ago. Hovi Mics: This picture is after applying the second coat of Testors #1747 "gloss black." I have read and seen that people are saying that the mic tips and vocoder should actually be painted satin black. If so I'll go back and go over them later. I then went ahead and started to attempt the vocoder. I made light pencil lines around what I think is the outline. Added a lot of masking tape to make a protective layer around the vocoder. 1st attempt: Needs more roughing up and a nice fine brush for the edges. Not anywhere close to where I want it to be though. While taking a break from the vocoder, I decided to tape around the frown. I made pencil marks around the teeth where they connect to the frown I think. 1st coat(teeth): Need another coat or two to really get where I want them to be. Question: When cutting out the 8 teeth, there are two extra left over. One on either side of the frown. Like this: Do I paint over this area in gray or no? Any tips or advice is appreciated. Thanks! 24. So starting fresh in this new location here's a recap of what I've already done. -drilled, sanded, and polished the teeth. My awesome little guide holes. Cut with a dremel..who couldn't love a smile like that haha. Sanded and now polished. -glue the back of helmet together with E6000, magnets and clamps. The blue tape on magnets is because they protect my helmet from any unwanted marks while still retaining their hold. Tape around the clamps to protect helmet as well. -helmet now after 24 hour wait period. Still working on the super tiny cap in back. -coated the inside of the front and back of helmet with plasti dip. - covered outside of helmet with plastic bag and tons of masking tape. 1st coat: 2nd coat: It looks a lot cleaner after the second coat. 25. So hey everyone, I thought about it and decided to move my build thread to the actual sub forum. So if you have been viewing the accidental one on the main forum of ANH, I won't be adding to that one anymore. Anyways welcome and glad to be a part of the community. Without further waiting, let's get the show on the road.
