  1. I have my belt front permanently attached to the strip onnthe bottom of the ab plate, and snap plates onnthe inside where my cod attaches. I still have the rear strip but it's cut out the width of the center kidney plate. My back closes differently from what others have done. I have an interior plate that snaps in to close the torso, and the seperat ab plate velcro over it. My butt plate has straps that snap it to the lower strips on either side. And the back of my belt velcro over it and attaches at the sides over lapping the front belt ends.

  2. I got one of the first R1TK kits from 850. I love my kit, but initially there was a lot of guesswork because no one had an abs kit before. So had to do a lot of guess work and comparing to threads with Jim's kit, and a lot of online and forum references.

My biggest and only suggestion is ditching the abs shoulder straps as is for sd silicone rubber ones, e sd po specially if you're looking to carry the R1 Patrol Pack. The rubber straps are able to handle continuous use of a pack, and also helps in keeping the straps from sliding off.

  3. As far as I know only 850 is currently doing the R1 in ABS. As for comfort, about the same, as for mobility, it's all dependent on how you build it and how it fits you. I know I have more mobility than my ANH, and I can suit up on my own with relative ease. A lot of that came about during assembly and how secure I wanted things, and how parts connected.

  4. Hi Justin. Great work. The Armor looks very good.
I ordered my 850 Armor Works Kit and can`t wait for BBB day. May I ask you for some Pics of the Strapping? Especially the Strapping of the Cod and Butt.
Where did you attach the Strapping of the Shoulderbell/Biceps and what did you use?
How wide are the Straps that hold the Tighs?

    Thanks in advance
I'll get some strapping pics up near the end of the week. All strapping is made from 1" wide black nylon, or 1/2" wide elastic. I use quick connects for the shoulder straps, and the thigh straps. Shoulder straps are connected via snaps to the chest and back plates via snaps, and the shoulder bell connects to a side strap from the shoulder straps. Bicep is attached by elastic strap and snaps to the bell.

I highly recommend getting rubber straps instead of the abs that connects the chest and back, especialky if you are ever considering using a pack.

  5. Screen from first episode. Note the cut vents. We do not need a seperate CRL for the R1/Solo/Mando TKs outside of minor option updates to the main CRL unless there are major deviations. There is zero reason to add a ANH bucket to these TKs. 81b4e27001878289e723ace01cf83229.jpg

  6. "Edit: I forgot to ask if anyone has a template or a guide for the slits on the helmet that have to be cut out. I am a little nervous about trying to guess about the spacing."

I would suggest finding a picture of ESB or ROTJ decals and printing them out to use as templates maybe? The big thing is that they are on a raised surface, just not slits cut into the spaces.

  7. First field test with the armor went great! The only minor issue was my left thigh drooping a bit because I didnt have the slide buckle above the quick release secured well enough. Other than that, went from 10:30am to 3:30pm in the kit, with about 3 hours with the pack on. Nothing on the armor felt too constricted and no armor bites. Pack sits great and the rubber straps kept the pack strap on place, not sliding off and resting on my shoulder caught under the bell like my Anovos kit. I even sat in a chair when helping judge the kids costume contest! Even made the local paper on the first outing!

All in all, great kit, and I learned a lot more building tricks along the way to make the kit comfortable, durable, and easy to get in and out of on my own. Still not thrilled about the R1 belt design, but managed to make it semi presentable. 53b600ff61a97e4c39a8229c33153d25.jpg4a183353bee6714d53b97e0493a73149.jpgf0f38757f58cac7ab644ebe3f74aab07.jpg

  8. All done! My left thigh is a tad high in the pictures, but its on an adjustable strap system so easily taken care of. Moving around in it is a huge difference than my ANH TK. Inalso tried on my pack and it sits better, and with the rubber straps, it helps keep the back pack straps from sliding off to the side and getting vaught under the shoulder bell. The extended/larger back also helps alleviate the weight by pushing the pack into a better vertical position.

Overall I learned a lot of new things with this build. My only complaint is the belt. The all plastic construction is a pain to deal with, and I hate the notches at the top of the belt. Because of the softer details of the abs pull and how far back the bottom lip sits, it was difficult construction wise to get them in as well as I could. b21da7f428d17c96800a8038000bf034.jpg0adebdfaa91f31d438d490b46ed08aaa.jpg1c5bceb9f52c673813ad7396acc56812.jpg5312b36de354eed3c684a3d205a14fb4.jpg640ef8493f960d74e39072a16b70ae9e.jpg

  9. So all major construction finally done! I hate the R1 belt btw. Have to glue on 3 more of the belt face boxes. Going to trim the top of the thighs just a bit to get them to sit a little better and improve movement. I had a hard time getting the thighs to close because I couldnt quite reach. Aloso going to improve the shoulder strap connections and add obe or two elastic straps from the ab to the inside if the chest to keep it from pulling up. All in all I think Im pretty much done. 73bba369ec8449b281c62f0e5e61ad6c.jpgcc80b30cdd85139ba4e6407430407fca.jpg
