  1. As the XO of a unit that has 45 CRLs, a good number of which have not seen updates since they were added (not for lack of trying), I support the notion of 1 CRL with available options, well written. Fantastic idea. As for indexing and updating, I try to Sticky and Lock concluded topics that have a good resolution, but don't need further input, if people need to reference them in a later discussion we can either unlock them, or simply link to them for information.
  2. Day 2: All grinding is done to this point, minus some minor finishing I'll need to do as I go to make things fit better, I've got a hobby knife as well if I need it. We killed a grinder today, and lost all power, but we got back up and running with a new grinder, and I frankly don't want to touch a dremel for a while. Back home now, feeling quite accomplished. Thermal detonator is my test subject for slurry, and I am SOOOO impressed. I've got a fairly thick consistency. It runs 'some' but sets very quickly. I paint it on and BAM instant success. No glue on the TD pictures, just slurry. I'll probably be bondo-ing to clean up some of the issues, I couldn't get a good stretch on the backplate part so I'm going to have to compensate. No sweat, just fact of life.
  3. Almost too tired to think right now. I'm Brendon, I've been XO of the Flagship Eclipse for about 2 years now and was a Costume Mentor for a year prior. I know how useful a WIP can be, so naturally I'm here! I'm geographically separate from both of my Garrisons (I claim two, even though there's only room for one on my profile). Thankfully I've got helpful folks who I can reach out to for questions at least. And I'm super-grateful to all those who have put in the elbow grease already and given me a lot of information just for reading to learn from and avoid mishaps. My build crew is pretty much myself, my dad, and if I can wrangle them for some help on the soft parts, my wonderful wife and mother. Thankfully they've been helping me make awesome costumes for years so this isn't really new, even at 27. I just got my box 2 on Thursday, November 19th, and my goal is to wear my costume to the movie on the 18th (probably not going to a Thursday show, work is well... what pays for this). I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with not much space to speak of. However, my Dad's been super helpful in letting me use part of his aircraft hangar, and today we set out at about 830, and I just got home about 1630. So it has been a long day. As of this initial posting, all of the preliminary trimming is complete, just the two of us doing it, and we've started grinding and sanding the parts down to finished status. It's about 20 degrees outside, but thanks to our kerosene heater, I was working in my t-shirt most of the day. Photos inbound! I'm going to try and work on the thermal detonator tonight, after some food and maybe a short mental break of Fallout 4 and/or Battlefront. Despite all the photos of my dad working and me not, I was actually quite busy today, breaking one bandsaw blade and making heavy use of my dremel as well as the grinding wheel. TD tonight, back at the grinder tomorrow afternoon.
