The guy that did them owns the machines so he thought he would do them like that. I believe it was a prop shop in pinewood. I forget his name. They also 3D printed a lot of stuff and a lot of props got broken because of how fragile they were.

Funnily enough I've just seen a friend who does costume for TV and film.... She is doing a robot costume for a childrens series airing later this year and took some stormtrooper parts as a base.... You probably won't recognise it by the time she finishes it but kinda cool.... Anyway she said she'd just spoken to a friend about picking them up and he has been working on Episode VII stormtroopers! Obviously I asked if she can hook me up...... LOL

I wouldn't expect you to be injection moulding these.... Disney/LFL only went this route because the guy that got the job had an injection moulding machine!

I can help you but you need to decide what suit you want. I make ROTJ. TM, RS are UK based and make ANH/ESB
Where are you based? If your in the UK you have the best choice. What size are you? That would also play a factor in your choice.

Looks great. You've done a fantastic job.
I think you have a bit of cleanup on the ab buttons. Looks like it's dripped some when you painted them.

If you have access to MicroMesh get some 2400. 4000. 8000 & 12000 start with a 3M superfine pad and work up in numeric value with the micro mesh. It will bring the ABS up to a shine fairly easily without hours of rubbing with Novus.

I haven't heard of my armour turning brownish before? I know that anything with ammonia should be avoided as this can exelerate the yellowing. Uv will turn ABS yellow. Not heard of brown before?

I do t think it is hard. You make sure everything is correct before apply. Think twice glue once.

Hot glue is not permanent. It will peel off the abs quite easily. Just make sure you use a low heat gun.

This is such a grey area and I know some people class us all as recasters.
What I don't get is these very people are members of the replica community and fuel this very thing.
If it wasn't for people like me spending thousands of pounds and getting to know the people that have access to original props and moulds there would be no screen accurate props cast from originals. At best you would have fan sculpted or licensed props and we all know with the exception of a very few talented people what we would all be running around in!
I don't just offer Stormtrooper armour, I try and offer a range of fine quality replicas from cult movies. If you have ever seen my other props you will know what I mean.Someone posted on my facebook page basically saying I was no better than the person that recast me and that I should step down from my moral high ground! This is someone that is a collector and maker of replica props! Well all I can say is good luck in your collection, you obviously don't care for any screen lineage.
I feel quite passionate about this topic as I go to a lot of trouble to offer what I do. I have never recast anyone to my knowledge apart from TMs handguards when we first started as I was told by the person I got them from that they were from an original pair! LOL so out of respect to Paul I sculpted my own even though he graciously gave me permission to use them.
If I am going to be branded a recaster for moulding and casting production made items I may as well stop what I am doing and move along.........

Yes, the screen used helmets and armour are injection moulded. A lot of the props are also printed. There has been a lot of problems with the armour and props due to them not being particularly hard wearing.
Great start to a great project. They are a lot wider than most believe.

Hi everyone
Just thought I would spread the news that the tosser named makerofthings! Has recast my Rotj JoeR helmet and is openly selling his cheap HIPs recasts on eBay. He even tells people what they are cast from if you ask.

Not much I can do about it but feel free to message him with your concerns of his blatant recasting.

If you are building Rotj then you can as the stunt Endor troopers were very dirty. Just not in a Sandy way.
I see no problem with clearance if it's a representation of a screen accurate trooper.
