  1. Be happy to share details and photos if anyone needs it. Lots more to do, especially the weathering.
  2. I have quite a few more pics to share, just need to find an offsite host so I can post them.
  3. I started this project while waiting for my armor to arrive. Took the ideas form the poor man builds here in the forum. Threw in a few of my own. Wanted to see what I could come up with in a day with local parts and pieces. It is turning out better than I expected, been having a blast (pun intended) doing it. The base is an ebay build a blaster, $15. I took various sizes of pvc, used a plastic rake for the t-tracks, aluminum flashlight for the bolt handle (going to replace it with a shorter, stubbier one). Turned a few of the PVC pieces on a wood lathe. I made the bi-pod out of an old light ski pole. I used bondo to fill in the butt stock, the toy one was flat, rounded it out. Have a few more things to ad to it. I painted it with plastic satin black spray, and started weathering it using silver acrylic, and the "dry brush technique". Project is on hold because my armor came today!
  4. Mods, being a stupid newbie, I posted in the wrong spot. Very sorry about that! Can you move this post to the correct thread?
  5. The big brown box of joy and happiness arrived today! Even played hookey to come home and get started. I have just about everything else either here or on the way, even have an almost completed dlt-19 ready to go. Starting today, I will be posting pics as I go. I have a feeling there will be no sleep this weekend. Thanks to all for being so welcoming and with all the help so far. I have all ready met tons of very generous, helpful and patient people. Can't wait to get my Tk number, and submit pics to be a full member. Years ago I used to "troop" with a Star Trek group, loved charities and events, I have no doubt I will love this even more. Can't wait to start troopin'.
  6. I do wish I would have gone with the Icomm now, but I thought it was worth a try. It does sound good, plenty loud with my archer mini amp, but does not have the mic effects the icomm does. He makes the sound with a puff of air in the mic. Not a cheap unit either. Lessons learned! I am sure it will sound great when I get it mounted and amped. Pics coming on my RT-mod build later this week. I will try to post pics and maybe a tiny vid of the mount of this and the sound.
  7. Here is another... pretty cheap, but you get what you pay for. They look right.... ----------
  8. Or this? Thanks for the help. Newb here... (who can't see seams) ----------
  9. Would these work? --------------
  10. I did not see that seam. Darn.
  11. Here is a link to the video of this unit: ======== Hopefully that worked, if not, yahoo HYTECHTOYS stormtrooper voice changer. I received the unit yesterday. First impression is that it was constructed nicely, pretty solid. The unit I received is a bit different than the video. Smaller controller box. It does as advertised. Sounds alot like the video, BUT, its not very loud. Pretty sure I am going to end up running it through an amplifier. I will mount it in the helmet first (really appealing thing about this unit is its small and very easy to install, all in the helmet, and its complete). I did torture my wife in bed last night with it. She said she thought is was loud enough as I was ordered to go sleep on the couch for too many droid jokes. But I doubt it will be loud enough placed behind the vocoder as recommended in the video. Prolly going to try hovi speakers with it next, and if that does not project loud enough, I have an old Radio Shack Archer mini amp I will use with it. Love to be able to keep it all in the helmet.
  12. I ordered a pair of these boots last week. Should be arriving today. They were less than $50, so I doubt they will last a long time, but, they are worth looking at and trying. I have about $1300 into getting started, my Armor arrives tomorrow. So it's nice to save a couple sheckles. I will let you know about the quality and durability of these. Tried searching them here but the search engine did nto appear to be working. If this is a re-hash, my apologies! BTW, there were TONS of CHelsea boots on Amazon that looked like they would fill the bill with paint. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GGH05OM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  13. I watched a video on you tube about the Hytektoyz stormtrooper digital voice changer, it actually sounded really good on the video, even had the transmit sounds. All mounts very easy in your helmet. I did a lot of looking here on the forum for info on these, and found none. So out of curiosity, I bought one to try. Has anyone had experience with these? I expect mine next week. The other question I have, that I could not find info on, the speaker on this unit mounts right behind the vocoder. Has anyone drilled tiny holes in the vocoder creases and mounted the speaker? By venting the vocoder, more sound would come out, and it would eliminate some of the feedback issues. If the holes were small enough, I can't imagine they would be visible, or is that a no-no? Newbie here, have a rt-mod kit on the way, should be here next week so I can get started on my build, really excited about it.
  14. Were all of the original suits sold to 501st?
  15. Hey all, I have a very wide foot with a high instep. Anyone know of a boot that might work for me? Thanks in advance!
  16. It is Scootch. Thanks for all of the help fellas!
  17. Forgive me if this has been asked before. There is an Armor kit on EBAY, and being really new to the scene, I need your expert opinion if this is the real deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAP-TK-Stormtrooper-Armor-Kit-/321710934348?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae777494c I have been trading e-mails with the seller, very friendly and helpful. He has told me these are 501 approved, he is the co-founder of the San Joquin group and all of his troopers wear this armor. I have seen a couple brief references to CAP TK armor, but not listed in the vetted pages. I have seen way too many post's that say to steer clear of EBAY, just had to ask. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
