  1. I would suggest you have a look at the reference pics; there are TK's with lots of "flashing" around the eyes and there are those with the eyes trimmed out (so the end cut is perpendicular to the lens). It might come down to personal preference. You are very close, and smoothing out your cuts (sanding) might just make the perfect eye. Your teeth are also very close (open them up just a little bit more). Great start trooper! :duim:

  2. Hi Ken and welcome aboard future Trooper!

Have a read in the “Getting Started-Read this First” section, as there is some really good info in there for new members.

Then, have a read in “Costuming and Builds” section to discover other troopers who are building (or have built) the same armor as you! Really good tips, examples, pictures, previously answered questions, and successes here.

In addition to looking at all the various build threads, I highly recommend checking out the “Advanced Tactics” section where you can see examples of those who have taken their armor to the next levels of screen accuracy (EIB and Centurion).  I’d recommend that you aim to build to one of the certification levels, as TK’s look their best at these levels. It's really not hard to acquire EIB or Centurion, and it’s best to do during your build rather that after.

If, and when, you’re looking for other bits –and-pieces, accessories, boots, blasters, electronics, etc., be sure to check out the “Imperial Commissary/PX” section for items for sale, project runs, and for other stuff that most of the troopers use.

Also, make contact with your local Garrison. They’ll help guide you through the process of becoming a member of the 501st, and may have local Armor Parties in the works where you can get hands-on build advice and guidance, not to mention meet members of your future Garrison.

So, start a build thread here on FISD; post lots of pictures and questions. We are all here to help you out and to make sure you look your best, and represent the 501st as best as possible.

All the best on your TK journey!

  8. I made mine functional with a white elastic strap for a handle and Velcro closure. I glued a white sock in the box to keep things quiet and in place. I thought I'd use them for keys or challenge coins, or whatever, but truthfully, I never use them. Once I'm kitted up, I can't see the boxes, and accessing them with gloves and my helmet on is not an option. I had pics but photobucket wiped them out.

I say go for it. It doesn't hurt to have it, as long as they are secure (not going to open or fall apart during a troop).

  13. Great job on the paintwork!

One question on your shoulder straps ... did you fill the back of the first bump on the straps with abs scraps?

I ask because without filling the back, you have a large void with either air or glue back there. This is a weak spot, and the strap might come loose after some troops.

If the back of the strap (large first bump) is filled & E6000'd level with abs straps and left to dry, then glue the strap to your chest plate, it'll never move.

  14. It all takes practice, a sequence that works for you, and a table (or the top of your bin). Picking up items from the floor is not advised for TK's.

My dressing procedure is close to Pretzels, but a little different.

    undersuit

    neckseal

    thigh garter

    thighs

boots (you should be able to bend over and put these on)

    shins/calves

torso (I have my back, kidney, butt, chest, and ab plates all pre-assembled as one unit. I leave one side of the kidney un-snapped and slip into it putting my head through my already attached shoulder straps. All my electronics are attached to my back and chest plates)

    belt

    TD

    shoulder bells with biceps attached

    forearms

    helmet

    white under gloves (very important)

    gloves

    grab your blaster

For me, the belt and TD are the hardest part. I find it difficult to line up the belt while pulling firmly. I usually ask one of the other troopers to help me out for the belt. It ensures it's tight and lined up nice.
