1. @A.J. and others interested in the Google search trick.

I assume what others were talking about is this:
Go to Google and do your search like you'd usually do, but add:
site:whitearmor.net

This will limit search results to matches from, well, here. But using Google's index rather than this site search function.

Example, if I'm looking for cover strip width.

    Google:

    site:whitearmor.net cover strip width

    The follow links back here.

PS: This works for every site that's indexed by Google

I've learned something new today! Cool. Thanks!

Whilst I love the build threads and acknowledge how much they have helped me and continue to help me, I sometimes think it might be nice if they were tagged by the armour maker, I realise that a lot of armour builds are of a generic type, but sometimes somebody figuring out your own armours particular quirk might be handy.

Good idea. Possibly if the thread name would include the kit manufacturer. Something like the EIB/Centurion threads. Many build threads do, but there are quite a few that don't.

Only had few hours to put something together for you all. Nothing to crazy, just simple and clean. Three colors on back. The front I will leave up to you but I like this one. Hope its ok for you guys!

Oh, and I don't know why the pics wouldn't show here. It's been a long day :)

Just a thought, if we go with a Celebration logo just on the back and the FISD logo on the front, maybe the front logo could also add a scroll or something across the badge saying 'Celebration Orlando' or something to make that shirt stand out from a standard FISD shirt. However, i would not be opposed to having the same logo on the back and smaller on the front.

  3. Looks nice, Will! Looking forward to the full set of pix.

The only thing that jumps out at me are you boots. The white leather spray will not cover the black elastic. That needs white fabric paint. I picked up a small bottle at our local craft store and have used it a lot. It also works well on the boots to touch up in the creases where the white has come of, just like you have experienced. A little touch-up every few troops and they kept looking great!

  4. Nice work, Solomon! And, thanks for jumping on the changes that others have commented. It does seem to fit better when all the pieces are in the right place and facing the right direction.

The only comment that I would have to add is the belt flap. I'm not sure if that would be a comment, but it is visible. I had the same issue with mine and I ended up folding it over and sewing it back on itself behind the plastic ammo belt portion. It looks like it can be done relatively easy on yours without having to adjust any fasteners. Just a thought...

It looks like you are aiming for Centurion, so the comments that have already been made will eventually need to be addressed. Some are only for Centurion's requirements and can be put off a little if tight on time.

    Good Luck!

  5. You know what Jeff, I think you have a valid point here on the use of the bucket with a suit and tie. I think that's a definitive answer in the affirmative for this type of an event. If it gets to be too much I can just take the bucket off and I'll be good to go. I'll be sure to post some pics after the event!

    Glad I could help.

But, don't forget the Standard Issue Imperial Belt Buckle. If the quartermaster doesn't have any left, check your local Target or here on-line: http://www.target.com/p/belt-buckle-star-wars-silver/-/A-49125471

  6. You could just use the bucket, gloves hand plates and boots. Like a tuxedo trooper. I did that in work cloths taking my son to and from school on May 4th and everyone loved it. Plus easy to pop the bucket and be back to "normal ".

I call it 'TK Business Casual'.

    Business%20Casual_zpsh8jhizwr.jpg

Halloween at work last year, since I wore the whole TK the year before.

The only times I've trooped a non-501st event were at my church for Halloween/Fall Festival. I have not tried showing up some place in costume, but consider the audience if you do. The church event you mentioned, should have no issues. You may consider changing into street clothes for the last half of the evening since it is not the most comfortable outfit to party in.

  7. Fun with Elevators

Elevators are awesome for Trooping. Tim mentioned that he loves the shock value of elevators at conventions and there is more fun to be had. So far, the only Troops that I have had this opportunity are at Hospitals, Museums, Sports Stadiums and Arenas. Elevators are great besides for just getting a Star Wars Selfie in an elevator, the opening door offers an element of surprise for anyone on the other side of the door...

Star Wars Selfies – Taking a ride in an elevator with a Stormtrooper, Darth Vader or other characters just doesn’t happen every day and passengers want to tell their friends what they are actually doing. At some events, they may get lucky and also get some Mercs and Ghostbusters in the picture.

    MOFMugN.jpg

Elevator Surprise – Or possibly Elevator Shock… When waiting for an elevator, stand 3-4’ (1+ meters) away and facing the door. People are so used to getting on and off elevators that they will be shocked to see a Stormtrooper securing the floor as the door opens. Even better if you are able to be holding a blaster. There is still enough space between you and the door for any passengers to get off at that floor, if they really want to. This is most impressive if there are other Stormtroopers and Vader standing behind you.

When riding on an elevator, stand close and facing the door waiting for it to open, with a blaster, if possible... Nobody is really expecting to have a Stormtrooper greet them at the door. It helps having Mr. Breathing Machine or a Wookiee standing behind you. If the elevator is completely full and the door opens on an intermediate floor, hold your hand up to people wanting to get on and say, “Prisoner transfer. Please wait for the next lift.”

If there is still room in the elevator, step aside and let them board. But have fun with them, especially if there are kids with them. Before letting them on, ask for the password. Whatever word they give you, say, “That was last week’s password”, or “Password confirmed.” I’ve let a family on an elevator and told Vader “These are not the Padawans we are looking for.”

When getting off an elevator, I like to stand at the door for the first impression. I walk out holding my blaster straight up, look both ways up and down the hallway and then signal the others that the floor is secure and they can exit the elevator.

Go have fun and make someone smile!

  8. Yes, we have Troopers in your area. The armor parties may be down in Ocala or closer to Jax, but they are around.

My daughter is serving her time in Gainesville at UF. I also have project meetings in the area every couple weeks. Maybe we can get together on a trip to go over some of your next steps to getting this armor finished!

Hi Rob and welcome to FISD! Hopefully you will gain confidence and get this build all wrapped up. I recommend going over to trooperbay.com and looking at Mikes videos for assembling stormtrooper armor. There are a ton of build threads that are very helpful here but sometimes it's easier to just see a video of someone doing what you are trying to accomplish. He is very thorough and it is a very nice guide. But like Joseph said you are on the right track. Remove those return edges where he said as well because those thighs will get uncomfortable. Have fun and good luck with the rest of your build!

I second the recommendation to view Trooperbay's Tutorial Videos for 'Building Accurate Stormtrooper Armor', only DO NOT use super glue. Stick with E6000, clamp and let dry overnight...

I've also been told that all the details and photos in build thread have been helpful to many - An ATA for Tampa Bay

When you do feel confident to start back on this, be sure to start a build thread and post pictures. Believe it or not, there are many who are in the same situation that you are right now, Seeing how you decide to move on and get this done can help inspire others to do the same!

This is a one of those things that I really look forward to each Christmas, handing out presents to younglings, but this year a couple of extra decorations.

Let's see how long it takes before I get unwrapped ;)

Nice work, Q. Glad you managed to make it out of the workshop explosion.

I am impressed with the festive details added to your bucket. Do you have any close-ups?
