Welcome Trey!

Bummed about no VIP ticket here too, but I got a 4 day pass so that's cool

I'm in Everglades squad and we have at least 2 active members in the Naples / Fort Myers area. Most of the troops tend to be on the eastern coast though. You're free to troop with Tampa people as well if they have some that are interesting or more convenient to you. Come say hi on the FLG boards if you haven't and we can help you out!

You can get the Anovos plastic ones from Amazon pretty quickly actually, cheaper too

It's definitely a little tricky, but it's doable and like others said there are always helping hands around at a troop for things like that!

My arms are all one piece, forearm connected to bicep with elastic and the bicep is connected to the shoulder bell with elastic/Han hook so it goes on like a sleeve. Just one snap at the shoulder for the shoulder bell. With a little practice and doing things in the right order it's pretty easy to suit up by myself.

Welcome! Glad to hear you enjoyed seeing some of us at the dark side marathon, that was an early wake up call but a lot of fun!

Make sure to say hello over at fl501st.com forums as well.

The bolts I have on the grip are too small also, I think.
-
I think I've had it that way for a while, fixed it real quick:
-
Oh whoops, lol. That's the only piece not glued, must have goofed when putting it up for photos there

That's all I've added, but still need to attach the longer bolts for the holster connection too
-
I'll post some additional pics after I finish more paint touchups!

Still not 100% happy with my paint job, but I was in a hurry to get this finished/troopable by this coming weekend for the Run Disney Star Wars race troops!
The kit goes together so easily, very nice!

Thanks Tony! Could not have done this build without the excellent reference that was your build thread!EXCELLENT! Very nice Ben. I was looking at the build pics and saying wow that assembly looks familiar. lol
Trooping pics are awesome also.

Nice, looks like you've got the major parts covered! Looking forword to your build

yes... Anthony makes the leather ones also
Awesome, emailed him. Thanks for the tip!

Just guessing here but at first glance yes. And if it follows suit to the armor I suspect it's make of black leather.
Thanks! I see a lot of the originals are canvas, does someone make leather ones?

Are the MP40 pouches seen in the movie the same as the original sandroopers used? What's the best place to get some, if so?
-
I would stick with Krylon if that worked well for you on the armor. I'm doing semi gloss black and glossy white. Clear coat on top (matching semi gloss and gloss)

I guess I should update this build thread too! I don’t use my laptop as much, so it’s rough posting photos here. Here’s the super abbreviated version of my build, since it’s already done! If you want to see more detailed pics of anything, let me know.
There was much bondoing, sanding, and tears:
But it turned out nicely:
Primer and paint:
Epic painting failures included repainting the chest at least 3 times. It was a learning experience:
It’s not all bad:
Ab box attachments:
Belt assembly:
Inside the chest looks gross after all the mods and tape/fabric/velcro:
I attached the shoulders to the back/yoke like so:
I really couldn’t stand the rubber gaskets that came with the kit, so after several tries my wife and I came up with this set of gaskets using headliner and some super shiny/stretchy fabric we found at Jo-Ann:
The back has two 2” strips of elastic sewn in, so you just put on the arms one at a time like a coat:
Ready to try on for real now:
And then, trooping!
