  1. Yeah, just haven't gotten around to them yet. That damn ear just bugs me. Can't seem to get it to close. But from screen accurate picts it looks fine. The other side is gonna be a pain, especially if it turns out fine, this one will drive me crazy. i know I'm not gonna get my build done in time for Celebration so Im just focusing on having a bucket to wear.
  2. Sorry for the disappearance, I took most of Feb off to concentrate on promotion testing. Now that that's over with I am back in the build process. Those damn ears! finally got one on. Not sure I am totally satisfied with it. This is an ANH stunt build which looking at pictures DO have a small gap in the ear, but i just don't know about it. I can't seem to close the damn thing for the life of me. Thoughts anyone?
  3. because looking at the Pandatrooper ATA helmet build thread it seems like he left a ton of material and the ears look bulky where as looking at screenshots from movies it looks to me that the ears are actually very slim.
  4. So finally back in the garage since the weather this week has been crazy nice and went from 30 to 60! Here are some shots... However I have a few questions about the ears. I know this is everyones favorite topic. If you look at the two picts below you will see definitive lines on the curve. I am wondering how close to that am i supposed to trim?
  5. Thanks. Ive been following the Pandatrooper build thread and just did it like he did. I have polished off anything yet or made my own screen accurate decisions. I am also quite terrified of making that first rivet of front to back attachment.
  6. So i got to do some work in the garage, besides more ear trimming, which i forgot to take pictures of, i got started on the teeth. See below but I feel like they aren't the same size on both sides of the AT helmet, and I don't want to file more because there isn't much left for depth on the right.
  7. Of course Im going to hand paint my details, but where is a good place to buy the cutouts from?
  8. Busy busy with work, but i was able to get my ear trimming started.

    Car decals

I bought these after seeing them at comic con two years ago. They work great. Kinda tricky to put on but if you've built a TK I'm sure you can handle it. Also, they hold up really well. I live in montana and get everything from -30 to 100 degrees and all weather types and they still haven't come up or anything. My only complaint is that I have a white car and the white decals can get a little sunburn turning them offwhite. I don't really notice it until close inspection. I suspect if you had a black car it would be fine.
  10. Not much progress but its something... moving along... Just marked the lines on the eyes and dremelled away! Dremel skills aren't that precise so i just took out the middle and score/snap the rest. Eyes finished! Teeth are next and I've got a bad feeling about this.
  11. Alright, finally got off my butt and finished the garage clean up. A week ago this whole corner was covered with boxes. Put up the cork and pegboard, threw a track light at the top, put some extra carpet on top of the counter so as not to scratch my armor during the build, and organized a whole mess of tools. Final product is a pretty nice work area. I was aally quite terrified to make my first cut into my armor. I have decided to focus on the bucket first in case i can't finish my build by Star Wars Celebration in April. I was actually quite terrified to make my first cut into my armor. This counts right? It actually wasn't as bad as I thought. Was a little uneasy about trimming so I probably didn't take off as much as I should have. Didnt get much time in the garage today but I have a little more confidence now. Will put up some more picts tomorrow hopefully.
  12. I have been reading for months and months, just no one explains it. Everyone just says return edge. So its basically if another piece overlaps it. Like on the forearms and shins the strip you will use for the butt joint will be the same length as the plastic underneath? Flush on the end?
  13. Well I have my kit already, just need to get the little stuff. Not rushing the build so Ive got plenty of time for it all to come in.
  14. Alright, so vacation is over and I've finally got the garage cleaned out enough so that I have a workspace. Time to get serious about this build. LETS BUY SOME STUFF!
  15. just thought i would leave you guys with a pict before going on a month long christmas vacation. This is how i plan to sneak up on the rebels...
  16. I hope so, I'm going home on vacation for a month and won't be properly starting until january.
  17. Big thanks to the guy over there at ATA Works. The kit came packed well enough and everything looks better than i imagined! Can't wait to start building!
  18. So the day has finally come and I have received my kit in the mail. Ive had the helmet for a while but figured I would wait and do the whole thing at the same time. Nice and slow. Would love to have it done before Celebration next year which I am attending but I'm in no rush.
  19. Was wondering if anyone troops as Grand Admiral Thrawn? I plan to have one completed before next year's celebration. Was wondering about advice for costume pieces and skin coloring options.
  20. okay so after a little more research I have narrow a few items on my to buy list down. Thoughts on what you guys like better? IComm Evilboy Fan Kit OR Echo Fan Kit Veedox Neck Seal ---------------
  21. is there a certain kit from strap works or do you just buy the individual pieces you want to use from there? Is there a place that already has a set amount of strapping setup for these armors?
  22. yeah i was hoping for some more specifics or types of things people prefer. there is just so much going on in the PX i don't even know where to begin.
  23. So i just got my email notification the other day that my kit is done. Ive had the helmet for a while but haven't started the build because i wanted to do the whole thing together. I plan to really get into after the holidays but want to see if there are some things you guys suggest to try and get before then. Like strapping kits, electronics, etc. Good people to get them from, etc. Thanks.
  24. I go every year to SDCC and every year it just gets crazier and crazier. Nerd spring break.
