  1. Imperialboots.com, top notch stuff, or go on anazon, order a pair of boots and some white leather paint and get to painting. (It's what I did, $46 total.) Not necessarily, even at the most recent price of $650 it is still cheaper than going with some of the cheapest options here on whitearmor when you factor in the soft parts IF tHe soft parts are up to spec, it's certainly not the steal that those of us who hopped on the tier one got, but it's still potentially a good deal. As with everything preordered that was a chance we took. I am of the opinion that very little will need to be changed in order to pass crls (i think even the much bemoaned belt and holster will be fine after rogue 1). So it comes down to taste, do you like the look of anovos vs some of the other armors. It's priced very competitively compared to the budget kits.
  2. Exactly. If I were building this kit to go on a mannequin to be displayed I'd agonize over every detail, and ensure everything was as close to screen accurate as possible. But since I'm wearing it I want it to be functional (that is, as a costume, as comfortable and durable as possible) and I'm willing to sacrifice some of that accuracy for functionality. 4 rivits on the belt instead of 2? Great, less of a chance the holster rips out if some little kid decides to give it a yank. Sharp details over soft? Cool, makes it look much less home grown more manufactured and intimidating. The point of costuming/cosplay and prop replication are not the same, there is some overlap but the two have very different end goals.
  3. I don't understand that attitude from the facebook post. I know lots of these guys and gals are new to the costuming and prop making community, and don't understand that months of waiting is common for props that are already in production, but when i was at c7 they already knew shipping would be winter of 2015. They never once promised they would be ready by halloween (not even close) or tfa, or christmas. They are perfectly on time still, yet people act like they're months late.
  4. My hope is that they are chicago screws, if not I'll be replacing 2 with Chicago screws. I picked up a dlt-19 in addition to my e-11 to go with mg kit because i like big guns and will use both for my custom mando kit, future TD, and potential future TB. Having the extra attachments for the troops when I tote the dlt-19 and have my e-11 holstered will be good for peace of mind that my expensive e-11 won't be taking a short, shattering trip to the ground if a kid tugs on my holster too hard. And if they are chicago screws it's just a simple matter of removing them for approval, and just slapping them back in anytime I expect to be holstering my e-11. A little white enamel and even the most eagle eyed sticklers for detail wouldn't be able to tell there are an extra 2 screws on the belt.
  5. Awesome. Like everyone who purchased this kit as a first set of armor, I did it because it was the only kit my girlfriend and I could afford as college students/young professionals with lots of other bills to pay. It's not that we bought it instead of a well known maker here on FISD, it's that we couldn't afford $2k+ for a pair of TK's, less than $1k however was easily doable. And like everyone else I'm excited to get my hands on my kit, but nervous about the quality/durability of an untested product. However it seems this thread really has become a bash fest by kids who are pissed that there will be more kids in the clubhouse soon and that somehow makes it less cool. I understand the reservations (as I have some myself) but seeing that attitude from garrison leadership and those in positions of authority is worrying to say the least. All that being said, I can't imagine a little modding here and there would be difficult, anyone with the skills to put together the kit correctly can easily trim down the TD or move the clips, which ever is more accurate, it's more the attitude that is an issue. Here's to hoping that the kits are nice and durable, and the 501st sees a big influx in passionate TKs who would otherwise not been able to troop without this opportunity.
  6. I was on vacation this weekend and see that this thread has blown up since the bonus update. But one thing really interests me more than anything else said here. So it is my understanding here that despite the fact that the TD's absolutely conform to the requirements for base approval for an ANH stunt trooper build, anyone who has purchased or will purchase the kit in VA will be automatically disqualified for approval outright without modifying the TD simply because it is an anovos kit? This seems to go against everything I've read on the forums. The rule of thumb here has always seemed to be that it doesn't matter who made the kit, as long as it is assembled correctly and meets crls it'll be approved, there are no guaranteed approvals or denials based on makers.
  7. I have no proof of this, it's just speculation, but I imagine it's harder to dress a fiberglass mannequin in a hurry than it is to dress a human. I don't think it was a matter of fit so much as getting the armor on a hard, unmoving mannequin in a hurry.
  8. It's my understanding that the back looks a little rough exactly for that reason, it wasn't easy to get on the mannequin and it's set up in such a way that the general public won't see the back (also why the det is missing)
  9. Brian Greenleaf just posted these to the Anovos build group on FB.
  10. Ditto, there was a bit of snark in the comment, lots of people are writing it off as garbage before the product has even been revealed (not necessarily in this thread)I think it's looking solid so far, and if it doesn't when it's revealed I'll just pull my order and pick up a kit elsewhere The brow is low, which sucks for me converting it to a sandy, but i may want to keep at least the bucket clean anyways, nothing like a sweet tk bucket to show off to my non nerdy friends by displaying around the house.
  11. It seems like they got the softness of the edges on the bucket worked out.
  12. Dude, use it to buy a black officers cap for when your in armor but out of the bucket to talk to folks.
  13. That makes sense to me, part of the pull looks good, part not so great because they're testing it. One of the benefits of the kit coming with a completed helmet I think is we'll get pretty good quality control on the buckets, I don't think we'll see too many soft pulls being put into a fully built helmet.
  14. I thought that too, but I think it's just the angle/lighting, look at the edge under the right eye, it's very crisp and sharp. I think these are looking spectacular so far.
