  1. Yes, great advice here.

Next time I see my doctor, I'll get tested for a latex allergy.

I did my own test recently.  I found a box of latex exam gloves in my lab, so I put one on my left hand for about 20 minutes as I did a few tasks.  The next day, my left hand was itchy and redder than my right hand.  Not nearly as bad as after a 2+ hour troop, but noticeable.  I can't quite say I've confirmed a latex allergy, but it's looking pretty likely.

I bought a pair of those Nomex & leather flight gloves.  They're quite nice. I'll keep the Trooperbay latex gloves around for my Centurion application, but I'll use the Nomex gloves for trooping.

  2. I do wear glove liners.  I've been using silk glove liners since I had the smell issue about 6 months ago.

I've never exhibited symptoms of a latex allergy before, but I can't recall the last time I've really been exposed to it.  That could be it, I guess.  Would the latex cause a reaction through the silk liners?

Those leather/Nomex flight gloves look pretty nice.  I think I'll give them a go.

  3. I wear the Trooperbay latex rubber gloves.  After a few troop events in those gloves, they started to smell.  Based on the advice here, I soaked them in vinegar.  That cleared up the smell, and I started wearing them with silk glove liners underneath.

A few months and 10-15 troops later, the day after a troop, the backs of my hands are red and itchy and a little bumpy.  Kind of like a case of poison ivy. The gloves weren't particularly smelly, not like before. The first time this happened, following the advice from my local garrison, I filled the gloves with a baking soda and water mixture and soaked them overnight. That might have helped a little, but a couple of troops later my hands were red and irritated again.

Has anyone here run into this before?  What did you do?

  4. You have the making of a centurion build here, don't stop at EIB.

Assuming this goes well, I don't see anything stopping me from attempting Centurion. :fingerscrossed:

Ok, my OCD wants to reach out and pull and twist your armor. Can I throw in just some simple ideas that will make your armor spectacular... Edit: MORE spectacular!

I would shorten the shoulder bell straps to bring the tops of the shoulder bells up to your shoulder bridges. Also mount the strap slightly forward to help bring the bells naturally forward. As was mentioned your biceps need to be rotated which will also rotate the bells forward closing up the gap between bell/chest.

I love it. I'll see what I can do with my shoulders. They've been bugging me by getting out of alignment, particularly after I raise my arms, like when I put on my bucket.

Now, this a pet peeve OCD thing of mine. "Knock-knees". Almost everyone has KK armor (see you bucket off photo). Put some foam in the bottom outside of your thighs to bring them back to center over your knees. The difference in the look is astonishing . Also foam behind your thigh to pull it back so the knee plate doesn't get stuck under the thigh.

Yes! This bugs me too! The knock-kneed look comes from the thighs, you say? I've been trying to correct it by adjusting my shins and getting nowhere. I have foam and double-stick tape in my kit. I'll see if I can give that a try tonight.

Check the left and right side gaps/overlaps of kidney/ab plates. On the right you can glue in a tab and slot deal that locks the two pieces in perfect alignment.

Sounds great. I'd love to see an example of this.

Ok hope I don't make you dizzy but your armor is just too close to perfect not to OCD all over it !

I would be proud to troop with you anytime and congratulations on your future EIB (and centurion) awards!

    Thanks!

  5. Also it looks like your biceps and forearms are rotated outwards.  The thumb imprint should be towards your body.  Good Luck!

Noted.  This is one of the downsides to having a wrangler/photographer/wife who has no idea what "right" looks like.

She said, "Now you know what it's like when I ask you how my outfit looks...."  Oh boy.

Also, you might want to recheck the ab buttons. They look a bit large.

    Maybe a tiny bit.

    Quality build.

If I could make one comment it would be on your lack of overlap from your chest onto your ab. You seem to be riding high on the chest.

    ...

    Again, nice work, quality build.

I see what you mean. I'll take a look at that tonight. (I'm trooping the Weird Al concert.)

With the help of a more experienced wrangler, I'll see if I can get some new photos, but the lighting in those dressing rooms can be less than desirable.

Very tidy build, Id expect a pass here! Well done.

Gazmosis is away until next weekend so sit tight and enjoy a job well done!

It's going to be a long week. :)

  7. Just a thought here, but sometimes facial hair can be an issue by causing a dampening effect. If you have 1-2 day stubble, or even a full beard that extends onto the neck, that could also be interfering with the pickups.

Yeah, I had more than a few days of stubble. How did you know? Is my webcam on or something?   :)

So I just shaved, and it's a little bit better, but still barely normal speaking volume with the Aker at max volume.

  8. Thanks, Scott. Yeah, I watched your video with interest to see where you have it positioned. It's not very tight on my neck, but not loose, and the neck seal holds it in place well. Even if I press it against my neck with my fingers it doesn't get significantly louder.

I spent some time probing my neck with my fingers while talking & humming to search out the sweet spot. (That must have looked pretty strange.)

I'm plugging the throat mic directly into the Aker 1506. I don't have an iComm.  Is the iComm critical to the operation somehow?  Could you try plugging it directly into the Aker and let me know if it works?

  9. I had high hopes for this, but it hasn't worked out.  I have the same throat mic and I am not satisfied. It is far too quiet. With the Aker at maximum volume, it's barely putting out a normal speaking voice level of sound.  The ordinary Aker mic is significantly louder.

I tried all kinds of positions on my neck, and that makes a little difference, but nothing comes remotely close to the sound I get with the Aker mic.

I don't know if I just got a bad one or what.

  10. I assembled my torso with the Mr. No Stripes bracket strapping method.

    b8CxS8x.jpg

This means I have a rather large piece of armor to carry about to events. It doesn't break down into smaller pieces.

I'd like to use a rolling tool box like this Stanley Job Box

    http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/400/ee/eef5ad13-66f8-47e8-b887-4985ffeaf335_400.jpg

but that would pretty much only hold my torso and nothing else.  Or everything except my torso. I'm not even sure the torso will fit. It's pretty long from shoulder straps to codpiece.

Those of you who did the bracket strapping method, what are you using to transport your armor?

  11. If you bought it from Jim at Voicebooster/TK Products LLC., let him know and he will take care of you. His customer service has always been excellent!

I agree, his customer service is very good.

I could not get my Aker + iComm to work together. It was not picking up my voice unless I shouted, and then cutting out before I was done talking. The Aker alone worked fine. He helped me troubleshoot the problem. We could not get it working, so he had me send it back. He tested it, said it was all working fine, and gave me a refund for the iComm. I'm still using the Aker.

  12. While trooping, my shoulder bells tend to rotate toward my back, leaving the front of my shoulder exposed.

    How do I correct this?

I have the 1" black elastic glued into the center of the shoulder bell. The other end is snapped to the white elastic connecting the chest to the back. I also have a black elastic strap that goes around the top of the bicep armor.

    Any tips?
