  1. I'm coming from a model/prop building background like you and I had little difficulty. The biggest challenge for me was using a wash; it's a whole different ballgame since you won't have those fine details to pick it up.
  2. If you look up the Move Along sandtrooper on starwarshelmets.com and count his tubestripes, you'll see he has an unequal number on each side. I don't remember how many, but the difference is crazy, like 9 on one side and 14 on the other, something like that. I think this is neat and adds character, but I can also see why some would be bugged by it.
  3. Just wanted to chime in to say I ordered the Doopy conversion kit through their website about three weeks ago and it arrived today in excellent condition and nicely packaged! Can't wait to tear into my new project.
  4. When you get your tubestripe templates, follow BOB-O's tip in this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/23204-tip-on-tube-stripe-painting-with-no-bleed-through/ The first time I did my tube stripes - even with a template - they looked like yours. I erased them and tried the technique above and it worked like magic!
  5. Haha, love it! Did you give the stripe some scrapes, and how'd you do it? (I'm considering doing a commander some day as well.)
  6. Sweet! I'll enjoy the pics if anyone posts any! I love to see someone make armor based on the reimagining of the old design, as seen in BSG Razor. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XLyTt7loCLc/TMtN4iKGfGI/AAAAAAAACuk/he2BCH9B5ZM/s1600/cylon03-full.jpg
  7. Good luck! I just finished trimming and initial assembly of my ATA helmet and I'm thrilled with the result. Test fit, test fit, test fit! Trim a little and test fit some more. When in doubt, leave a little extra plastic. You can trim it off if need be.
  8. Here it is - SWR149 is what I ordered: http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.asp?intDepartmentId=4#33 I was surprised at how fat it is. It's as big around as a nickel! Fortunately, my ATA kit came with something less hefty.
  9. I got some neck trim from seals direct and I'm wondering, which part of the "s" does everybody put on the outside, the thicker or thinner part? Thanks!
  10. If Humbrol is anything like Testors, paint thinner/brush cleaner from a hobby store should take it right off.
  11. I'm using the taupe base coat & liquid latex chipper effect on my build helmet build. Thanks for this trick! Also, I understand now why you didn't post photos of the helmet with the white latex blobs all over it! Ewwwww, is all I'll say. Lol
