    I found those videos way back when I was about to start building my first kit. It was one of my main resources aside from this forum and the movie. It's one thing to see a series of photos with a written explanation and something else entirely to watch the process as it happens. It gave me the confidence I needed to get started. I am grateful to anyone who takes the time to make tutorials as I find they are essential, especially when its something you've never tried before. So for that I give a big THANKS to Mike for the effort!

     

    That being said...yeah, I spent some time drilling, filling, patching to reposition the thigh belt. LOL...

    I've been working with the ATA kit for a few days now, knocking out the initial trimming and I'm surprised at how much flex it has. Now, I'm not comparing it to TM or RS etc., just saying that for being 2mm, It's not as stiff as I thought it would be. That being said, I won't know the effects till I install the brackets. I should say IF I install them. As it stands right now, seeing as I already have them, I think I'm going to use them.

     

    Perhaps if someone out there has already used them on an ATA kit specifically, they might chime in before I get to it. Otherwise, I may be the guinea pig.

     

     

    Thanks Jeroen - how hard was this to do? I'm just wondering what the time investment may be estimated to be if one retrofited an existing set of armor. I'm very curious to see how this will hold up on ATA.

    I just want to stress the original strapping works better than any other system as long as you have the correct ABS. I am not familiar with ATA ABS but at 2mm I would say it is not suitable.

    Thanks for the info Paul! You would certainly know. I thought that might be the case as far as the thickness was concerned. I've only just started the build, so there still a ways to go till I get to the strapping phase. I was hoping to hear from someone who has tried it on an ATA kit but the lack there of might be an indicator. I searched through the centurion thread but didn't see any ATA/original strapping combos.

    I have helped a few with the original bracket system but also use the snap and elastic for more support. Some RS squad members have had issues with the brackets causing cracks, yes ATA is thicker but didn't want to run the risk so we just use original bracket system for show

    It is a risk...it's almost like you have to if you have an RS. lol.

    What to do?...hmm

    Hello everyone! Have any of you troops out there used the original strapping brackets on an ATA abs kit? Have you trooped with it?

     

    I'm in the process of building my ATA kit and I'm seriously considering going with the original hardware. I know from what I have read and seen that there is the possibility of cracking as a result of using this method. I used a snap system on my HIPS kit and that has worked out great on troops but I wanted to try the brackets on my next build.

     

    Does the ATA kit, being a thick abs, make it better suited for the brackets or worse?

    Alright, so you got an extra set of ears with your helmet...no sweat. You just gotta go a little at a time. My helmet is ATA as well...

    I used a dremmel with a sanding bit, lexan scissors, and sand paper.

     

    Like Glen said " a lot of sanding and trimming" and a lot of patience. Most people definitely try for the tightest fit, as did I, however it's your preference on how tight. Look at movie reference pics and also

    the Expert Infantry and Centurion requests section where you'll find a bunch of photos with close ups of other troopers helmets.

    Have you drilled the 2 ear mounting holes in the helmet already? if you have you'll probably have to re-drill the holes a bit lower. The ear piece in the pic can still be made to fit but it will have to sit a bit lower to be flush.

    Don't worry though as the ear piece will cover any extra holes. What armor make is it? worse case you could probably get an extra set of ears...the movie helmets had plenty of gaps so either way it'll be fine.

    I painted mine and it was definitely my favorite part of the build. Ingrid's got it right with brush selection, I would just add a slightly wider flat brush as well for filling in the traps.

    Practice on a For Sale sign and get a feel for it...and then decide. Have fun with it! Good luck!

    The rom/fx "classic" is £115 plus shipping but comes with all you need. It's small enough to easily fit in your helmet, but the included speaker will not. I wear both behind my chest plate with great results. It is not as loud as the aker can get, but there is nothing stopping you from connecting the romfx into an aker for the extra boost.     I took up Ingrid's info and ordered a dual squirrel fan setup with 4 2xAA packs from Allelectronics.com.

    I distributed the weight of the AA packs at the front/back to weigh down the helmet just enough to feel like a real lid. The low voltage it keeps you cool and the 6V are much quieter and last longer than a 9V.

    Don't worry too much about helmet fans. Maybe you live in a much hotter area than me, but I have never needed them. I suggest you try at least one troop without them before you spend time and money on something you might not need.

    Well, I live in S. Florida...high humidity and heat. My concern would be the lens fogging without them.

     

    Any suggestions/opinions on voice amplification/static systems?

    Apart from the painting it's like watching my own build lol. Glad my threads are off help, it's nice to give back for all the work others have posted before. Hope you don't go to insane with the wait, just try and get all the things you will need for your build for when the armor arrives. Oh there are blasters to build too, I got a bit carried away lol. Keep up the good work

    Thanks. Yeah, I just gotta stay busy. Still want to figure out some electronics for the helmet too.

    Blasters...setting my sights on blasters next. Don't want to think about the wait...wait...wait........
