  1. This is more of a nuisance thing than anything else, but thought I'd mention it none the less. I'm a fairly new member here so maybe it's just a time thing, but ... From the main page I'm unable to sign in with either my username or email. If I go to the forum page I can sign in using my email, but not my username although it pulls up the correct username once I'm signed in...
  2. Well folks ... The game is afoot! I found a FX helmet kit on the cheap. I will hone my skills here, and when I am eventually able to buy armor I will step up to something a little more accurate. We all have to start somewhere ... Let the games begin. Just a couple quick questions ... I prefer the look of the bubble lenses but from what I read these may be more difficult to see out of. Is this true of all bubble lenses, or are there some that don't distort your vision as much? If the latter is the case, where might these be available??
  3. Wise words indeed Steve ... it would seem you have become my FISD guardian angel. I imagine any scratch build, if done right, might be in question. When you strive for the level of accuracy that the 501st demands, I imagine these things are questioned regularly. I hope to do full lights and sounds eventually, further emphasizing the whole prop thing. Have a great evening!!
  4. Hello to one and all, Hambo70 here from the central Ohio area. I am in the process of an E11 scratch build and before I get too far along was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. I have built many lightsabers over the years and never had to worry about the material I used ... I was reminded earlier today that I am now building a gun and not a fictional sword and that there may be gun laws to consider. While I haven't really seen a bad E11 build on the boards, I kind of wanted to do mine in metal versus plastic or PVC. Can anyone tell me if doing an all metal build will be a problem by Ohio law? If not, who would I potentially contact to find out??
  5. Thanks to everyone for the input, you've given me a number of options to consider. I knew these forums would be helpful, but on an individual basis everyone has been so accommodating. I look forward to the day that I can suit up and actually troop with some of you!
  6. Steve, Good to hear from you again! Living in south central Ohio, I'm guessing cold gear wouldn't be a bad idea. We've got plenty of sporting good stores in the area so I'll be checking them out soon. Based on your reply, I'm guessing you went with the 2 piece setup. I am curious though ... I haven't seen too much info on balaclavas ... Are they mandatory or optional?? Thanks again for looking out for this newbie!! Matt
  7. Darkside,...looks like we might both be in similar situations. I appreciate the heads up on eastbay.com , I'll check them out. Good luck with the upcoming build!! Matt
  8. Greetings everyone! I am fairly new to FISD, and hope at some point to become a full fledged 501st member. I'm currently in the process of gathering all of the little items and will probably buy armor after the first of the year when taxes come back. In regards to under armor I'm curious what the general consensus is on 1 piece versus 2 piece? Once that question has been answered, where might be the best place to buy?? Thanks in advance for all of the wisdom of those who have gone before! Hambo70
