  1. Hey Patrick, a bit late to the party here. Your HWT look is exactly what I'm shooting for, though you mention sore shoulders, how much does your pack weigh?

The weight isn't so much of the issue.  It's part of it, but the loss of movement causes majority of the stiffness.  I can't roll my shoulders or move my head to stay loose.  Ever fly with a slightly heavy backpack?  It's that same feeling of soreness except it comes a lot faster due to loss of movement.

  2. I agree with Patrick. Personally I have always preferred leather pouches, and that fact that I have a canvas one was only because it was what was left over after I sold my sandy.

The CRL model was the best we had at the time I created the CRL. There are certainly better looking HWT's now and we should probably swap it out.

I really like the leather ones pictured in the CRL that's why I went with them.

  3. As far as pouches go, you can pretty much use what a Sandy uses.  If you look around some of these threads, you'll see approved HWT's with them.  There is always someone selling pouches so plenty of examples.

As far as a backpack, you can use the same that a Sandy uses or you can go with something more along the lines of the Battlefront game pack.  What you see in the picture is just an example.  You'll see both types of backpacks in the threads.  For great packs, check out anything by Dirty Boy or Quartermaster (here and at MEPD).

My only personal recommendation is with the backpack.  If you think you 'might' want to go Sandy at some point down the road, definitely go with a Sandy backpack.  I have no intentions taking my current armor Sandy so I went with a game version pack.  If I were to change my mind down the road, I'll have to get another pack.

  4. I don't think your thighs are up too high. You look like you are tall so a little extra gap between your thighs and shins is expected. Aside from a little battle scuffing, the one thing that jumped out at me was the stack pipe on the right side of your backpack. There should be a TD control panel at the top. I have never seen a ribbed panel before.

    Your armor is incredible!

Thank the guys at RS Props for the armor lol.  Those guys do amazing work. :)

As far as the pack goes, it was built by Quartermaster.  I guess you can say this is the v1 of the pack since he has a newer design now.  You'll see the ribbed panel in the screenshots he initially used for reference.  If you're reading this Quartermaster, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! :)

Anyway....  I have a lot of fun in this setup.  I'm amazed on how many people LOVE the T-21 lol.  On average, I can get two to three hours in the full setup before my shoulders just get too painfully stiff and have to down dress to TK.  I love Sandys and all, but being able to dress down to a TK was why I chose the HWT setup :P

EDIT:  Next step is to decrease that gap at the top of my thighs.  They're too loose.  I'm pretty sure that would hold me up from EIB for TK and HWT (along with battle scuffing suggestion by captsafe66).

  5. Great build, looks really good. Are you planning on getting it dirty? :P

Nope.  That's the reason I went with the game version pack.  I've had this setup for awhile now.  I just never had it added to my ID.

Lately, I've started out trooping in this setup initially and dress down to standard TK when my shoulders just get too stiff.  Drop the pauldren, backpack, T21, switch belts, and grab my blaster.  G2g at that point lol.

EDIT:  Oh yea.. and grab my thermal detonator lol

  6. I received an email from someone that was coordinating the whole event (I was just there with a booth).  They have my stuff at their office.  :)

I wasn't trooping alone.  I had a handler with me.  It was his first time doing it though, and we were more or less getting 'the boot' out that room.  It was myself and a member of the Mando Mercs doing the event.  Very very few active here in Anchorage (been working on getting recruits hard).  Fairbanks is a totally different story though lol.

Soooo.... No one has done anything like this?  No horror stories?

  7. I can't believe I did what I did today.  Aker, ICOMM, and other tidbits gone.  I had started getting into costume and had pulled several items out of my tote.  I was asked to leave and go change in the restroom instead.  I left my plastic container with all my goodies sitting there >.<  I really didn't think much of it while suiting up.  I thought I just left it at the house.  Nope...

Well... This is a rather expensive lesson to learn.  Triple check everything anytime you pull something out of your tote and/or putting something in.

What's one of those 'lesson learned' some of you have experienced?  I pretty sure theft is someone a common item.  I'd like to hear.

    Thanks!

  8. This is the exact one I have.  RS Props included it in their package deal.  It is from Extreme Racing.

I'm 6'0 and hover around 190 lbs.  It has a nice snug fit to it.  It can be a little toasty though.  If you're in a hot area, I'd go with something else.  If you're in a somewhat cool/cold area, it's perfect.  It also adds just a tad bit of padding for snug armor.  It does pull sweat away as it says.  I also wear a thin sweat wicking shirt and bicycle shorts underneath.  I do feel, since it has some thickness to it, that it prevents scapes/pokes in the event of a sharp cut of the plastic.  Of course, you'd want to prevent those in the long run regardless.  You also will not have to worry about bunching or stuff like that.

A downfall of the suit is that I've noticed it is starting to fade.  Not super bad or anything, but a tad.  It is fabric so it will fade.  Also, even though it is a benefit too, it is pretty snug.  Some people don't like that.  I definitely don't have the body to wear this without the armor lolol.

It will come down to personal preference.  This suit is my main suit I wear.  I have a set of UnderArmor, but I really enjoy the overall feel of the suit.

  9. The game version pack Quartermaster made for me sat in a safe spot in the house for quite some time.  Last weekend, I decided I wanted to try and debut the HWT for an event.  I was worried that total weight would get me.

I found that wearing Quartermaster's pack w/ammo pouches and pauldron is actually pretty comfortable.  In reality, I found it more comfortable than a standard TK.  As a TK, I have issues with the drop boxes when doing lots of walking.  They just love to catch themselves at the top of my thigh pieces.  As a HWT, no more of that :)  Carrying around the T-21?  Different story on that lololol.

I just wanted to thank Quartermaster for his awesome work.  No one really got a great picture of the pack, and I haven't had anyone take any submission photos for basic HWT approval yet.  Yes... It is raining.

  10. considering the fact that I qualified on the M4 and M9 this week.  What's worse is I didn't miss a shot while wearing my gas mask.  :P

I feel I've let Stormtroopers down all over the world by being able to shoot.  How would have the Galactic Civil War went if Stormtroopers could shoot accurately?  Oh wait......

    /troll off
I have to say that shooting the M9 was a blast!  I've never been into hand guns, but I might just have to start.

  11. I've had cracking in the chestplate, but re-enforcing it and trimming the neckline seems to have stopped it.  I've had two straps come apart, but a little Gorilla glue fixed those.  I've had the back of a thigh piece that got caught on the butt plate and started splittling, but a little re-enforcement and Gorilla glue nipped that in the butt.  My mic tips almost came off last troop lol.  I do find myself having to re-glue my hand plates after every troop.  Small stuff thus far.....

I'm averaging about 30-45 minutes wiping down with disinfect, inspecting, and re-packing for the next troop/storage.  I consider that maintenance.  That's what peaked my interest on how much others are spending.

    Thanks!
    Patrick

  12. On average, how much time do you spend on maintenance/upkeep?  Things break, loosen, crack, unravel, get unintentional dirty (unless you're a Sandy :P ), get scratched, etc...

    "With great power...errr...armor comes great responsibility....to maintain it." - Uncle Ben.....Kenobi :P

    Thanks!
