  1. :) Good Day all! I'm about near the first test fit of my FX. The Helm is 70% done, I have the "ruff" trim of the thigh plates, same with the arm's. Some of the stuff I did I picked up from here so thanks guy's!!!! I have tryed some new stuff out I came up with. But when your 5'8" and on the stocky side it's a bit trying getting even a good fit! I hope to have some pic's some time Monday night to post. Well back to the dremell, (she's cooling down right now!) :)
  2. :) Actually old 'Uncle George" loves the costume clubs for what they do. They keep intrest going in what he has created. In some why "we" thats members of the 501st or other Star Wars groups, and "solo" guys like me, keep the movie alive in the eyes of the general public, like "Free Press". :P Small groups makeing and passing around full or parts of the costumes from the movies (like helmets) are no real big thing to the over all picture. It's when you start pumping out 100+ full armour with helm a week that they get "Hinky" over  By and large people like us are just good free advertising for him! :P
  3. :) Now that all the movies are done(they say!) I now have to say Sith, then New Hope, then Clones, then Empier. As for Jedi, that stuff with the "Fuzzy-Wuzzys" beating the crap out of the best troops to take the field was too much to take! At least they could have had one hell of a cool battle with reb commando's and troops :) As for EP 1, well I guess it had to start some time :P
  4. :) As I read the response from all I feel the need to reply. First I do like some of the markings on armour. I don't like too much, but some is very cool to me. Why  It's because of two reasons. First it's the way to display rank. At a glance you can see large formations of troops on the move in the field and tell who is the Sgt or LT or Commander rank. The next and more important thing is it's based on the tradition of elite troops or warriors painting their heraldry on their shields, armour, and even them selfs. It could represent their family "house" or their 'King" or "God/Gods", or county. It also served to scare the crap out of your enemies :P It is a fact that if you put any one in a room with a lot of bold red trimmings they get agitated more easily. With the troopers, their history is based on the "Star Wars" universe fact the the best warriors where Mandolorians. So when the then "nice" Palpatien, leader of the then Republic had the first army made, (we all know he did from the start) he needed the best, so "Mando" troops where created. Thats why it could be seen as "betrayal" by the 501st, if they don't let some paint their kit. I myself have my eye on a snazy new "Kamma" :) (as befitting my real military rank) :P
  5. :) I am working on my FX now, and on the first one I cut the cod/back, and did so again. I just coud not move at all very well before cutting, and now say it really is a must to do. I'll see if I can post a pic or two tonight, but due to work I can't upload things like pic's :P This time I "trimmed" the edges with stuff you get to trim the edges around the underside of the helmet. I did get poked a lot buy the ruff edge on my older FX kit and didn't like that too much :P
  6. :) Yes just the thought of getting a full RT-MOD helm "out of the box" complete is cool. But I do think that anyone getting into this should start with a FX set, then by them self put it together, like a Jedi thing but more snazy :P I am still waiting for that MR Stormtrooper "Hero" helm from Brians Toys  and waiting  and waiting
  7. :) Hello all. As I stated in the past, I am now re-starting with a second FX armour set. I'll post my work from start to completion. My first set didn't turn out too well, so with the F**K up's that I did I hope to have a better out come. A few things, can the ABS on the basic FX armour be re-painted, as in ultra glossy? And if it is will the paint crack or chip easy? :o . I also am waiting on a RT MOD helm right now. (I did a very good thing and paid for a completed helm)!
  8. :) Hi all. First I got the second set of FX because of just that, I now know what it's about, what to expect, and what my game plan will be to put it together. I still am not too sure what every sub-type of armour all are. I do know I like the ABS type, and really want to keep to it. I know the helm for the FX is over-sized, but with 2 fan's, 2 boards, the amp and burst mode board, and all the 9v bats for them, it will get pretty tight inside! :P The arms as you can see had to be not so clean-cut to let me at least bend my arms, and also I have no real work place to use my dremell on the. They tend to make one hell of a lot of sound when you use them, and I live in a appartment, so LOT's of hand cutting/fileing! :P
  9. :) Hello all. As I posted before, I am now waiting for my second set of FX armour. I have completed one set but my first time out and it really is to my mind not good for wear. Now that I do know some things, and what works on me I hope to do a bit better with it. After I get the next FX done, then I may start looking for TE/RT ect. I have a bad time with thigh plates due to being 5'8". The arms are hard to try to get to work also. The first two are just after some trimming and still useing mostly velcro. The last pic is how it is now. Mostly snaps being used with most velcro gone. I now have the legs in the garter type of set up with the upper plates "pulled " up a bit higher.
  10. When I first decided to get into this part of colleecting Star Wars stuff, I ordered 2 pair (size 8) from caboots. I paided by money order and then ordered my first set of FX armour. It was a total of about 3 weeks to get my FX to my place just out side of Vancouver BC from the US add, but I had one hell of a time with caboots. First they didn't believe me that I paid for them, untill I sent them the emails I got from their help desk. It was over 3 months after I got my FX that they got to me. And boy that box was just one big stink bomb! New leather smell mixed with some dead thing! On the plus side I really like the fit. A bit on the flimsy side if you ask me. Will be interesting to see how long one pair will last.

  11. :) I myself am 5'8" and also new to trooper armour, and found the FX kit, ( i have completed one and am waiting for my second set to ship now) and found the main thing is the thigh plates. They are the part that will stand out the most if not trimed too well. Also the joint parts, knee's,arms are what will make or brake you even enjoying wearing this stuff. The challenge i have is I don't have some one to help when it comes to fitting. If you get the thigh and arm plates just right, the FX kit wears well with shorter troopers like us. Like I said before I just wish I joined here first before working on my first set. One thing that really works well for me is useing the garter system for the thigh plates. I found that with me it has helped out so much. Before that I just could not get the legs to work for my hight useing the hooked to the lower half of the ab plate. When trimming I mostly use tin snips, or score and snap. I really don't like to trim too much of the parts because of the cost, like cut down the shoulder bells to be a little bit better. Being 5'8" has not beiing too bad with FX with me.
  12. Good Day to all. New member here. I'm Steve (Sgt Steve), and I have been a fan for years. I have completed one set of FX armour, and now (hmmmm should have joined here first!) am waiting to get my second set. My plan is to have, as long as my GF will let me spend! :P , 4 sets, one "by the book" for show, one as a Sandtrooper, one for hard wear, and one for mod's I would like to see, (as long as my GF will let me !) The email is my work email and I'm part of the Canadian Forces. I'll change it to my home email in a day or two. Hope to hear from all. I myself live by the words, "Troopers Rock....Jedi NOT!" :P
