  1. You might want to raise the belt as well. The belt should come to just below the ab dots. It looks like in the photo yours is about 2 inches short.

Your shoulder straps are a bit long as stated above. The square end on the back side of the straps should/could be removed to be more screen accurate. That would allow you to bring the back up higher to start and then work from there.

As stated by Paul, don't do anything until you have the placement of the chest and back correct first. With those adjustments you should be closer to where you want to be.

Belt was already raised and corrected; I mentioned that at the end of my post. I'll start to look at it and see about trimming the shoulders. Thanks.

  2. I finished my armor at an AP yesterday and it needs some tweaking. One main concern is squaring the chest to match the back. We had used a heat blower gun to bring the chest to curve it by the shoulders to give a more form-fitting curve. Perhaps it was not done enough. But we are not close to where the AP was. Should I take a bit off the side of the chest to see if that does it? What do people recommend? We do have a heat iron we just bought but have never used it and are not sure where to curve it. Thanks! And for those that would mention the belt is too low, don't worry but that was already corrected. ;)

  3. Are you clamping the parts properly? Normally theres not that glue oozing out. You might be using too much glue too. My E6000 is clear, not yellow like your pictures.

You should squeeze 2 long beads of E6000 along one surface, then the same on the other. Spread it flat (don't spread it to the edge, leave about 1/8" before the edge.). Once you spread with a popsicle stick on both surfaces, let it tack up a few mins, then use spring clamps. This will press both parts together with little or no gap and only a few drops of glue will ooze out. You can simply rub these off after they have cured.

If your biceps need to be that size and the return is getting in the way, just trim it down.

You can remove cured cover strips by forcing a flat chisel between the armor and cover strip.

Thanks Terry. And my E6000 is clear, must be the lighting and I probably did use too much. And I didn't use a popsicle stick to spread it out first. I probably will take some of the return edge off. I will try to post some good pics of the return edge, so you know what I'm working with. And we're not using cover strips, but the overlay method. Also I forgot to sand first before gluing; perhaps that also lead to my dilemma. But I think the return edge is my biggest problem right now. BTW I just got my RT-mod bucket :D

  4. Hey guys,

I just got my AM kit but have no idea where to start. I lined up the forearms (the inner fitting into the outer) and it seems like I have a lot to trim, but don't know where to measure to know how much to take off and where; the length is fine though. Also I tried to line up the biceps and the inner won't fit into the outer. I assume that is how its supposed to be since the outer has the molded cover strips so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions? I've looked at the AM tutorials but I don't see anything for what I need. Its just that I'm not mechanically inclined and have never done anything like this before. I know I can do it, I just need some help on where to start and for the 2 aforementioned issues. Thanks!

I would like to start making my first tk armor. Where to start? What to start? Should I start with something small or go all in? It look like alot of work, but the output will look great. Please post links where I should start...

    Thanks

    Hi Erik,

Welcome, I recommend reading this link:

    Getting Started

  6. As a New Yorker myself (albeit living in FL but you know how it is, we may have moved from NY but that does not mean we're not still New Yorkers), that day has changed us immensely as well as all Americans and those around the world. I remember whenever I would drive up to see my girlfriend (now wife) in Carmel how whenever I would drive over the Throgs Neck Bridge, I would look at the city skyline and see the Towers. I missed seeing that and looking at the skyline looking so empty. My biggest regret is never going up into them. And I just want to add (which I'll be playing later) some songs on Bruce Springsteen's The Rising were written for 9/11.

This is Into the Fire by him.

I have the utmost respect for the FDNY, NYPD, PA, those on Flight 93 and at the Pentagon among other rescue workers on that fateful day. I will never forget what they did and what happened that day. What gets me is that I'm the only one on my block flying the flag (then again I'm always flying it).
