  1. My unit arrived today so I was playing around with it, trying to practice some of those classic lines. I don't know what was hardest; copying the dubbed Spanish version or trying to do a passable Northern American English

  2. Lemontarts is a fiberglass SDS recast. (I'm fairly certain)

It's not fibreglass according to the description ("hand laid casting plastic –lighter and less brittle that fibre glass") but SDS seems logical.

  3. What's the deal with the lemontarts?

Anyone know more about it? It looks reasonable. But does anyone know what it's made of and whether it's recast from something we're all familair with?

Not looking to buy one, just intrigued.

  4. Connect the biceps to the shoulders to keep them from twisting, yes, but I think you've got the height perfect.

Too many first builds (mine included) start out with the biceps tucked up too high with lots of gap between the biceps and forearms. I really like to see the biceps down low tucked right into the inside of the elbow and the forearms up snug against the biceps.

    Just like this feller ...

Uncle Pete (Stukatrooper) also gave me some good advice on connecting the forearms to the biceps to keep them high ...

    ... here ...

In general, Jesse, great work as ever.

  5. I have to admit I don't understand how some of the "must haves" made it to the list regarding blasters, but it's a very tricky area. Some ANH blasters had counters, others didn't ...

Because of the sheer inconsistency of the original film props, I have to say it must have been really hard work compiling the requirements for EIB. An unenviable task that I'm glad I didn't have myself!

And at the end of the day, I suppose there has to be some kind of consensus or standardised version for ANH (to set it apart from ESB) so that we have some form of guidelines.

  6. Yep, looks like a Boobies! :P

Some rather dishonest marketing going on there too, with it pictured next to a picture of UKG troopers in front of an SDS display. Or maybe they're just being extra honest and showing the potential buyer just how bad the Rubies looks next to proper armour!

  7. Quoted by Rick330 "Whether you end up with ANH or ESB is more down to your own choice. The basis, i.e. the armour kit, is the same for both. It's how you paint it, add decals, wear your holster etc. which makes the difference."

This is not entirely true, as there are minor differences in in the armour/bucket.

Straight of the bat, ... knee plate shape....

How does the knee plate shape differ on ANH and ESB stormtrooper armour? Forgive my ignorance.

Anyway, in the interest of not confusing the poor chap, I'd just like to reiterate that the armour used in ESB was the same armour originally produced for ANH. It even featured the original lense material - both hero and stunt versions of the helmet re-appeared - so no difference (in the choices) there.

Some detailing changed as Tarragon has rightly pointed out but the basis/armour was the same, i.e. the same exact moulded parts which you see in the first film.

For a replica build the same applies. The basic kit is the same. You will have to add the detailing to make it either ESB or ANH (frown colour, decals/painted detail, belt/holster assembly, blaster).

The only exception is if you can manage to source a TK kit which comes with ESB hand plates instead of ANH handplates. But this is unusual and you usually have to source separate ESB hand plates if you're going ESB.

And in any case, if you go ANH and are aiming to make a reasonably accurate replica of the film armour, you will need to replace the plastic hand guards with latex or latex imitation material.

It also depends on whether you are building a Stormtrooper or a Sandtrooper

If he's going dirty, he's not really in the right place.

  8. Im looking at doing a ANH Stunt or ESB kit, depending on whats available

Welcome Hadleigh (your Dad must be a criket fan!).

Whether you end up with ANH or ESB is more down to your own choice. The basis, i.e. the armour kit, is the same for both. It's how you paint it, add decals, wear your holster etc. which makes the difference.

And, for finding out exactly how to add all that decisive detail .... you've come to the right place!

  9. Yeah, I just ordered and paid immediately without contactign him. A week or so later I sent a mail just to ask about the status and I got a mail back from his wife confimring that my neck seal was being posted the next day.

  10. Well i'm a fully fledged member and i don't have a decal on my shoulder bell...so the answer to your question is NO you don't have to wear it!!!

That's cool that it's not obligatory.

As I say, I find the UK logo one of the best and any member of the 501st should be proud to "fly the flag".

I think personally though, I'll probably choose to wear our Garrison logo on other items of clothing/merchandising rather than stick it on my armour. Then again, the Spanish Garrison decal is rather an intrusive one.

    Here's an example ...
