Wow dude, sorry to hear that. I don't watch or keep up with the news, so this is news to me! How many troopers lost their gear? Hey, the 501st does charity work, right? what about an internal fund-raiser to help the Philippines outpost? i know we couldn't possibly expect to raise money to replace their belongings, but what about raising money to help them replace their 501st trooping gear? I don't know how much of a possiblity it is, but I figured i'd throw the idea out there. I know if it happened to me, i'd appreciate it...i mean iff a natural disaster came and tore through my house, and i had a finished set of TK armor, that'd be the most valuable thing in it, both because of cost, and the sheer amount of time and work put into it. I'd be devastated!

so, the plenty of time thing didn't go the way i planned. i forgot i had to go with my girlfriend to a car show today. after being dragged around and being bored out of my mind for the the most part of 5 hours, I had no energy or motivation to sit down and type up an essay. I'd like to say that I'd be able to try again tomorrow, but no promises. That woman wore me out today, and none of it in the good way....so i'll probably be relaxing stubbornly tomorrow.

okay, so i've decided that I am loosely basing my costume off of Lord Angral, from that same cinematic trailer. I've more or less decided i'm going to take a basic paintmask, mold, and cut it to the vasic shape of his respirator, and attach some tubing to go around the head to attach to something at the base of my skull (maybe even my hair? some sort of hair-tie rig might work. its certainly long enough) On that note where on earth do the Tie Pilots get their tubing? I can't find a reference to it on their forums. You don't think it comes in their helmet kits do you?

Well done good sir. As I read your essay I considered submitting one of my own, but after I have finished, I'm not so sure now. You covered the central idea of a hero quite well. I've always had a more negative view of a hero. Not that they are bad, but more from the hero's point of view. Unwilling, exaggerated, and sometimes not even a hero at all, just mistaken for one. I feel if I even brought myself out of a stupor to write such an essay, It would not fit the criteria of this contest (although I never saw the original thread), and it would certainly be an unwelcome comparison to the pleasantly idealistic masterwork above.

so i posted on the Eclipse website yesterday, and i've gotten NO response from them whatsoever. I've browsed some of their other posts, and it seems that they have a much, much smaller sense of comradery than FISD. its just a small percentage of their posts that i've looked at, but even that same percentage on this site would reveil the sense of brotherhood everyone conveys. kudos to the FISD!

I'm modeling vaguely off of the sith lord design from the SWTOR teaser 'Deceived'. As time and budget are not in ample supply, i'm not sure how close i'm gonna be able to get it, but i'm going to try for as close as possible with my own subtle variations.

so, for my halloween costume i've decided I'm going to do a simple sith-lord getup, partially in honor of the upcoming SWTOR. I plan on making everything from scratch, so I need advice on how-to's and places to get cheap materials. (this is a non-canon costume. all i'm doing is throwing together some typical sith costume stuff, and then adding on my own touches of bad-@#$ery. Do you guys think the Sith Lord Detatchment would be a bit muffed if I were to bug them for advice, as its not 501st related, or canon? also, if you guys have any ideas, i'm all for it. i've already found a vague guide for a robe pattern. just got to find stuff to make the pattern (no idea what i'm supposed to use....) like one think you guys may be able to help with is the facemask. i'm looking to go for one of those lower-face life-support masks. i can probly falsify something with one of those painting masks and paint it...

uh oh....well, at least I won't have to worry about that problem immediately. I'm size 13 over here. so long as they keep the larger sizes in for a while....i might snag a pair earlier than i was planning on making my armor if i have to.

Actually, as an afterthought, does anyone think we should put a glossary of abbreviations and some information about the different types of armors in the compendium? I mean, if everyone pitched in with their knowledge, this compendium could actually become a hitch-hiker's quide to the galaxy of TK building.... and with that, it could be used as a standard distributable to new troopers. This would decrease the amount of questions pressed on senior troopers. I know there's the troopers helping troopers ideal, but having this as a standard could cut out a lot of the basic stuff that seniors get tired of being asked. yes? no? thoughts?

wow dude. that sucks.... To be honest when i started reading this thread, my first thought was "crap, i hope they don't raid an event..." my first response was going to be advice to seek out the DG's advice on how to continue, but then i realized it was 3 pages, not one. I truly am sorry that this has occured, and while i'm not a trooper yet, I offer my condolences to our Dutch brethren.
