TK-8716[501st] Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 I have been looking around a bit at the different helmets, and I came to wonder if anyone knows a bit more about it. It has been mentioned, and also seems apparent that the SDS battlespec has undergone a few changes recently. The positive ones being a better cut around the eyes and teeth, as well as a handpainted frown, maybe even in a more accurate color. However, from what very few pictures I have seen of the newer battlespec, it seems the chin piece is cut a lot sloppier, looking more like a black splotch. Not that it would hard to clean up, but still. The asymmetry also seems a bit of, where one tube just looks much larger than the other one. The ear pieces also stick out a lot more. Thing is, apart from the improvements, I get the impression the "old" battlespec had an all around closer resemblance to the more accurate ones.. I came to think of it when looking at the pictures in this thread (nothing harsh meant on your helmet Dmian, just a little curious). When compared to most other battlespecs I haven seen which have been of the older variety and all looked like the battlespec in the SDS page over at Star Wars Helmets. Should anyone happen to be a little wiser than me on this? My eyes could easily be cheating me. Quote
Darksaber Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I wonder if maybe its from overuse of their moulds. I'm sure they get a little warped after a while and I think the "over-wonkiness" is just from bad assembly. Quote
Dmian Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Don't worry Lasse, I know it an odd, warped helmet. I'm working on my AP right now, so I hope it ends up better than the SDS, but it also has it glitches. Edit: don't trust the pictures on the Shepperton site, the ears are not the same. It looks like a mix between the battle spec and the regular stunt. The ears are definitively a different piece on mine. I could work on them a little, now that I have more experience with my armor to make them look a little better (smaller). But I don't know. The vocoder is awful, I can tell you. I don't know what to do with it. Frankly, I haven't decided if I should work on it a little to improve it or leave it as it is to sell it later and buy a nice, TM helmet. Quote
bpoodoo Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 I've got a late-model SDS Battle Spec from 2013, and it does look different than the 200X versions. On mine the ears are much smaller. The eyes are also cut a bit differently (better, but I still filed mine down a bit more on the right side, as you look at the helmet). And on mine the ABS is not as glossy, especially the cap and back. It still has that signature SDS faceplate lean which I corrected after disassembling, locating and drilling new holes, and reassembling (multiple times!). Quote
