V'Pier[501st] Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Hey Gang, It seems that Hotmail is blocking out our server which causes any emails sent from this forum, or any other forum on the same system (aka hestia.site5.com which is our server) to be rejected from Hotmail. Here's a piece of the message from hotmail This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<hestia.site5.com> SIZE=1816: host mx4.hotmail.com [65.54.244.104]: 550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit [link=http://postmaster.live.com" target="_blank]http://postmaster.live.com[/link] for email delivery information and support This most likely happened thanks to some stupid anonymous jerk who is also a customer of the hosting company we're with and he probably created a website and spammed people, and caused the WHOLE server to be banned from hotmail. This means that EVERY customer who also shares the same hosting server as we do are also experiencing the same problems. I hope the hosting company has canceled their account and told him to get lost. Anyway, thanks to that jerk who spammed hotmail, this basically means ANYONE using a Hotmail account, must go now to "My Controls" and change your email address to something else ASAP! I can tell if you haven't changed it yet as I will continue to get emails from hotmail in my admin box telling me your hotmail account is still being rejected. Google Mail, Yahoo, and other ones are just fine, only hotmail accounts are causing these annoying problems. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE the hotmail account that is listed in your INSTANT MESSENGER profile field, that has NOTHING to do with the account that you use to receive messages from the forum, ONLY change your email address to something that is more suitable and will not be bounced back. Thank You for your time, now get going and get rid of those hotmail addresses! Quote
Smitty Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I use gmail (googlemail) and my membership confirmation was intercepted by the spam snagger as well. Took me 3 days to figure it out. No problems since. My PM notifications navigate my email server just fine. Quote
Stomper Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Hey Troops, I noticed that I wasn't getting forum reply or PM notices a few days ago, but I fixed the issue by going into my hotmail settings and making SURE "", and "" were added to my "safe list", and I added a sorting filter to put my Star Wars related messages into my "501st" folder that I made. My hotmail now works just fine! Here's the step by step process to add the FISD to your safe list for hotmail: 1. Click on "options" in the upper right corner. 2. Under the "Junk e-mail" heading click on "Safe and blocked senders ". 3. Under "Safe and blocked senders" click on "Safe senders". 4. type in "" into the box on the left side underneath the heading "Sender or domain to mark as safe". 5. click the "add to list" button just to the right of the info box, you should see "" in the "Safe senders and domains" scroll list on the right side of the screen, and that should do it. Here's the step by step process to remove FISD from the blocked senders list: 1. Click on "options" in the upper right corner. 2. Under the "Junk e-mail" heading click on "Safe and blocked senders ". 3. Under "Safe and blocked senders" click on "Blocked senders". 4. in the scroll list on the right side, highlight "" by a single left-click. 5. click the "remove from list" button to the left of the list. Here's the step by step process to set up a filter to automatically sort your email messages: 1. Click on "options" in the upper right corner. 2. Under the "Customize your mail" heading click on "Automatically sort e-mail into folders". 3. Click on the"new filter" button in the upper left corner. 4. Under "Step 1: Which messages are you looking for? ", in the drop down boxes (from left to right) select "from address", "contains", and enter "whitearmor.net" in the last box. 5. Under "Step 2: Where do you want to put these messages?" click on the radio button next to the folder you want as the destination for the email. 6. Click the "save" button in the lower right corner. Doing all three of these steps EXACTLY as I have outlined SHOULD take care of your hotmail issues. (At the risk of sounding like a jerk...) Since I took the time to draft these instructions in an easy to read and follow format to make it "so easy a caveman could do it", PLEASE do NOT, NOT, NOT PM me asking for help on this, because I will NOT reply to them. Hope that helps! Quote
V'Pier[501st] Posted December 16, 2007 Author Report Posted December 16, 2007 I'll take down the notice in a few days and see how it goes. Quote
