The Stormtroopers look different in all movies....... if anybody knows that it's us LOL
I'm digging these guys......they look like what I think would be ..... before the Empire upgraded the suits to the ANH style in the time line of the story.....
Remember the Empire changed it up a few years later for ESB..... and reallllly changed it up for ROTJ
RO falls right in line with what Georgy and the crew did on the original trilogy from what I see here....as far as our classic stormys go
This movie is supposed to take place mere days before the events of ANH.
All things, specifically the Stormtroopers, should look exactly like they did in ANH.
I am seeing too many things changed and too many new things that did not appear in the OT.

Sorry, I am a bit offended by the regular Stormtroopers in this trailer. They simply aren't ANH accurate. The armor itself looks to be newly sculpted or sourced from the Disney Star Tours suits. Just a half-assed attempt. Just painted the frowns grey and called it good.
Fan suits are better than these...

It's nice looking and reasonably accurate, but I see no reason to get this over a TM... from an accuracy standpoint.

My thoughts are converting a helmet that started life as stunt will never give you a truly authentic hero look without MAJOR work on the faceplate. Hero helmets (for some reason) are wider set than stunt. They don't have that squashed appearance.
On top of that, you have to use bondo or filler for the teeth, which would require painting, which is not accurate for a Hero. Heros were raw, unpainted ABS.
I say, go for a TM. Don't know why he's hesitant to make you one. It shouldn't take that long.

I really depends on what you mean by a 'stunt' neck seal. Nobody, I mean NOBODY here or anywhere, makes a true, screen-accurate 'stunt' neck seal. Why? The seals used on-screen (in ANH) were actual 1970's rubber diving suit neck rings, which by now, are perished.
They also appear to be different in each scene, so it is hard to tell what they used or how they looked.
The only neck seals that we get a good look at and know with certain accuracy are the 'hero' neck seals.
Yes, I make the 'hero" seals. That means correct look, materials, correct ribbing with a jaw taper and a full torso bib. We have made many seals without the bib because some prefer that.

Note too: Lukes Hero suit had 2 right forearms (or 2 left, I don't remember!) Either way, this is evidence that they didn't pay attention to the details like we do.

Honestly, I don't think they kept track of what was Hero or not. If that were the case, all the Hero helmets would be in the up close shots and the stunts would be only used in the background shots. The only "Hero suits" used as intended were Lukes and Hans. Otherwise, they threw on what was available - mixing up hand guards, belts and helmets. Heck, I'm sure there are NO suits kept together as one. They mixed armor components too.
Not entirely true. Many stunt helmets can be seen wearing "hero" hand guards; "Alternative style hand guards" is a way better term.

Their seals look much, much looser than the DS troops. Also, the ribs look bigger/fewer. Just my speculation, based on a couple of pics.
I also assume they were improvised given that the Tatooine scenes were the first to be filmed and the first time the trooper suits were used. Given the changes made to the armor details, it would not be unreasonable to guess that they also made changes or improvements to the DS trooper seals filmed later in England.
Just my opinion. I have no inside knowledge or proof to backup my claims.

Also, those Sandtroopers are using something different than the Death Star troops.

My personal thoughts are the "stunt" neckseals were found objects. I think they were dive suit neckseals. They were both ribbed and smooth and they had a round bib that was sometimes shredded.
I honestly don't think they took the time to make a mold for latex to make them. I think they custom made the seals for Luke/Han, but the rest of the stormies were purchased in en masse.

I agree with SuperTrooper, the Marmits from Japan are the single most accurate to date. Sideshows, are horrible, aside from the neat E-11 gun and holster.

Not much is known about the stunt neckseals. It is assumed that they are found objects, not specifically made for the movie.
They appear to be rubber diving neckseals and have a rounded dickie instead of a full chest bib. We only know this from one behind the scenes picture.
The hero neckseals - specifically Lukes and Hans are made specifically for them and have a full chest bib with tapered ribbing from back to front. It is not known if all troopers that has a hero helmet had the same kind of neckseals. My guess is they did not.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, BUT:
The only way to cast this suit right would be to take it from the inside, all parts. That means separating the forearms, biceps, legs, etc...
Which would mean to "ruin" the suit in some ways.
Given it's poor condition, and the windfall that an accurate ANH reproduction would bring, much more potential than the sale of the suit in its present condition, I would go ahead and ruin the suit to get an accurate cast.
Just my opinion.

I used straight Latex/Acrylic house paint that was color matched to the armor. That would flake off with rubbing, especially when it rubs against the forearms.

I just masked off the soles with the blue painters tape. Then I used some medium grit sandpaper to rough up the leather surface. Be sure to get it all over. Then I airbrushed some latex/acrylic housepaint on my boots. This house paint was a satin and was color matched to my armor. Of course, you can just use acrylic... Just something flexible.
The paint has adhered to the leather quite well so far.

I am right at 6'0", 162 lbs as of this morning.
I know Mark Hamill was so short, they had to cut 1 or 1.5 inches from the bottom lip of his chest plate and he still covered up most of the AB section buttons with the chest.

I am right at 6'0.
The mesh in the mouth was made from a metal pencil holder and the E-11 is a Sci-Fire hyperfirm. This smaller gun is a resin cast and I think is for sale in the ongoing sales forum.

Thanks for the kudos again, I really appreciate it coming from a trooper of your high caliber.
I put the foam on the sides because I cannot use the chin elastic with the snap while trooping. While it's a neat screen accurate touch, the chin strap is difficult to undo with my armor/gloves on while trooping. I still have the foam leaf inside too, but I needed something else in there to supplement that. That's why I added foam. Just like I said before, usually adding stuff to the original setup, never really works! So, I will remove the foam on the sides.
I am right at 6'0 tall. I would say I am a frog hair too tall for the perfect size.

Wow, what's the point of this?! Really such a bizarre tweak to the design with limited results.
If one where to criticize the TFA trooper design, it would be the duck bill look of the helmet (and maybe the bulky look of the body armor)
The helmet duck look could be corrected by the addition of the OT style vocoder or symmetrical mic tips, which, hearing rumors that they
tweaked the helmet to look more OT, I thought that's what they did. Guess not.
Also, in-Star Wars story wise, what is going to be the Military/technical explanation for this? The military does not just tweak equipment for simple aesthetics or just to make it look "meaner"....
