  1. I will place two fans in the front. I want to be anle to replace them and I want to reduce the sound.

So I cut out some foam pieces (see pic below). I made a litte hole on the side for the cables to go through.

Then place the fan inside and hot glue the foam (pic 2 below).

This way the vibration is reduced by the foam as is the sound. I still get enough wind, also coming back from the helmet because there is space behidng the fan. And when either fan needs replacing I take them out, the foam stays, and put a new one in.

    I works fine for me.

    John

    John,

I wanted to try this, but I figure that by having foam all around the fan, no air would be found behind the fan thus, not being able to push any.

Am I wrong in my assumptions?

  2. But, which would you think would be the easiest to assemble?

Well, AP comes untrimmed and unassembled. FX is already trimmed, so is RT and TM if I remember correctly.

Unless you are in the UK, scratch TM from his list as he's looking for a cheaper solution ..

That leaves RT, AP and FX.

Last time I asked RT his price, I think it was 725$USD + shipping, AP is around 850$, FX can go as low as 500$.

In order for this guy, considering size and $$, I'd go:

RT altough bigger fit then AP, less $$$, already trimmed

AP smaller fit, more $$$ but a more screen accurate

FX cheap, trimmed, big head (which is one of his no-no argument)

In any case, you gotta assemble, but for me, trimming and assembling was just like a giant model kit, gotta love it!

  3. Well, I've had no answers for this, which surely surprises me .. but I'm still updating with pics of what I came up with.

Ok, before any of you think I should have put it more up on the inner side, or more in front on the outer side, let me tell you that this piece seriously didn't fit my thigh piece!

If I would have wanted to place it higher on the inner side, it would have been seriously inclined in a front view as the inner top border was much higher then the outer one (all AP kits are supposed to be made that way)

If I wanted to rivet it on the top outer border, it would have been misaligned in front view (left-right balance).

So afterm SERIOUSLY, a few months of looking at this piece, I finally came up with a screen cap of a knee pad riveted not on the top border, but like I did, I tried this, and saw that this would work (although it makes my inner alignment lower .. but at this point I don't care, my armor is getting quite nice, and this won't change a thing when I'll finaly show it to you guys :)

So I'd still like to get your opinion on this, is this affecting anything?

  4. Hi Guys,

I'm also in the market for armor but I'm only 5'8" tall and about 160lbs. Are there any sets you would steer me away from that would be too tall for me? My big fear is that I would end up looking like I'm wearing my big brothers clothes. I like the price on the FX. I'm more concerned about a good fit vs being perfectly movie accurate. From what I've read, the suits in the movies certainly varied a lot in the small details. I'm also concerned that the helmet might be too big for me, if that's possible? I find a lot of baseball caps too big. I figure if you have to look left or right and the helmet does not pivot with your head that would be a bit of a problem. I'm also not a great crafts man so if the armor is really complicated to put together that would be an issue for me. Thanks for any advice.

Well my friend, you're exactly the right frame for any screen accurate armor.

Even though you're not into screen accuracy, I'd definitely go for AP (Canada), RT(Canada) or TM (if you're in UK). The FX might actually look bubble head on you since you're not so tall.

As for the helmet floating around, you will find a lot of threads here to fix this. In most case, although not screen accurate, people tends to go the hard hat liner way to have a good solid fit. With my AP, I have black foam that I manually placed where I needed it since the helmet is much smaller. Still fits really well on my head.

To be able to build the armor, you certainly need more patience and time then talent, sure it helps, but I've never heard of someone completely messing up his armor from a lack of craftsmanship.

Take your time, read a lot our threads and choose your armor wisely :)

  5. Here's what I just came up with from looking around at the pictures.

I just wanted some kind of tight pocket to put the cell in and the screen was all I had :)

Then, it was moving too much, so I just took some extra padding I had (from my helmet padding) to squeeze it into position.

I can even close the KRZR over the screen mesh to be able to open it without taking it out of the box .. pretty clever I thought ;)

But then, I'd have to be able to get that box to my ear first .. Urrg .. not that clever :D

I glued everything with hot glue.

  6. I can confirm this to you ..

Amazon.com has a lot of cool stuff .. but you can't pretty much order anything in Canada .. I'm in Montreal.

Just fall back on Ebay, that would be my suggestion

I just tryed to order a Kenne E-11 off Amazon.com because they have them in stock and on Sale, they're selling for $19.99. But when I got to the check out I get this message...

*** We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below. ( See geographical restrictions.) ***

This really sucks... I think it has something to do with me living in Canada.

  7. Guys,

I got this link for the Riddell helmet ..

I thought the pictures were pretty nice:

  8. Sadly that is the case at this time:(

However, I do intend on making the parts available. I have long respect for those who want to build their own, and I understand that building a vac table and ordering plastic is a tall order for a sound system. I need to get my hands on a rom fx so I can build a mould for it. I don't even know how the rom gets wired. Also, it takes different batteries than my system, so I would have to come up with new battery boxes or a cover for the boxes it comes with. A whole different project:/

Oh, I didn't realize that this was some kind of business model in the long run or anything.

In any case, let us know if you ever produce the pieces for us to build around them!

That would definitely be my way to go and your parts would add a nice touch to my current setting (urr eventual setting).

  9. Try now...

    Urrrg ..

    I'm sorry, still doesn't work!

    - I can access the "My Albums" link in the top bar

    - I can't access the "Your Albums" in my Control Panel (Sorry, the board administrator has not enabled your permissions for this part of the control panel.)

    - I can Add Image but they don't show up

    Thanks for your help!

  10. Yes, But only on my end. Testing is done, my moulds are done and parts have been ordered. I am also awaiting a shipment of plastic.

Hey dude, what about if we just want the molded parts?

Would you do that, I already have all black wires and fans and romfx and the rest?

I'm pretty sure a lot of people might be interested in this too :)

  11. there are photoshop tutorials all over the net. hell ive even created a few of em.

Hey when did you receive your bucket from MR? im still waiting on mine.

Not to be mixed up with the 212th and White Clone that went on special in the last month. These Shock trooper are the red ones and were sold out a long time ago.

  12. Resurecting my old thread ;)

Well, I decided to finish my armor .. and never got around to do my knee .. and I'm just tired of looking at it, trying to fgind a way, putting it back away and then trying again .. that's been going on for the past 6 months!

So here I am .. I still haven't gotten a heat gun but Curtis's thread helped me figuring it out. Now, what I think is that the AP kits is different from one to the other, aren't they all anyway?

I stumbled upon these picture. In the first one, the knee plate is supported with rivets UNDER the top bar, beside the squared boxes (while the other uses plastic wraps. Anyone tried that?

I just had to make my mind that I can't fit my knee pad properly by riveting it on the top border/bar, I'll have to find another way.

So my question is, is the knee attachment method important to be canon? Or there was just soo many ways the armor was built up on screen that whatever where the rivets are, it's always gonna be good?

  13. Rob,

Montrealers here, glad to see another canadian on board!

First, I'd like to say thanks for the history, simple, quick and felt very honest and straight forward in your response.

I had contacted Rob one year ago after having seen his stuff on Jez's site. That had got me all excited and proud knowing a fellow canadian fan was building his own sculpt. I still ended up with an AP (as AP is 25 minutes from my place and could have it in a matter of days while I knew Rob had quite a waiting list at that time :)) .. but I always like the feel of the RT-MOD suit!

Not to say I always wondered how his suit would have fit my 6'3 190lbs frame. Certainly a little better then the AP, but again, I so love my AP :)

Can't wait to completely finish it and send you guys pictures!

  14. Paul,

I was sure that all 501st had the little sign on the lower corner of their shoulder bell (not too sure what it is though as I'be never seen one in close shot) ..

I thought this was part of showing up in public or something?

    Did I dream of this?
