  1. All,

This website has a lot of references but in order to help starting and focusing our build, here are a few references that we need to have handy!

    CRL:

    - FO TK TKA: http://databank.501st.com/databank/TK_-_First_Order

    - FO TK TLJ: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_TLJ

    - FO TK TLJ Executioner: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_TLJ_Executioner

List of items needed for the build:

    Required:

    - Helmet

    - Armor

    - Shoes

    - Gasket (Arm + Legs)

    - Gasket (Neck)

    - Belt

    - Belt Pouches (2 black pouches)

    - Gloves

    - Undersuit

    - Sundries & Supplies :

        - Webbing 1" for strapping, 2" for the belt,

        - Snaps,

        - Glue: E6000 or more permanent glue (cyanoacrylate),

        - Sand paper: 220 for roughing up areas before gluing, 400 and up to 2000 for paint job if required.

    Optional:

    - Blaster Pistol:

        - Blaster Rifle (F-11D): The5thHorseman: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32544-free-tfa-f-11d-3d-printable-files-available-now/

        - Standard Blaster Rifle (F-11D): 3d printing files and instructions: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lmsi2f0pt5eub5g/AABk8rA2vHICB3dIoprxQbHIa?dl=0

        - HeavyBlaster Rifle (F-11D): 3d printing files and instructions: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/j4vggekkxj0h25u/AAAVIpfUiblTiCmtAexmw4I-a?dl=0

    Tools:

    - X-Acto Knife or Utility Knife to score abs, cut webbing.

    - snap setters and hammer or snap setter tool.

    - matches (actually any flame) to finish the webbing once cut.

  2. In many ways, I'm still a newbie but here is a few points that I have learned in the journey so far. I welcome, of course, any correction or alternate point of views!

    - screen accuracy is for you! If your goal is trooping there are only a few people that are able to appreciate the difference in the armors. A couple of troops and you will be convince of such! :-)

    - 501st CRL is the go to. Probably and most likely the most exhaustive list of the differences you will find between movies is detailed there. And since this is what you will be judged on, it does not hurt to use them as a reference. (If you are seeking the centurion qualification)

    - The forum is great! But this is a well of knowledge that is built on fragmented or hyper focused discussions. It's easy to drown into the many many posts that are debating a point of the armor. Don't get me wrong, this is the best source of information but it is not aggregated. Trying to read the forum is like trying to read an encyclopedia (i.e.: you don't start at page 1:-) ). So how do you use the forum: as a resource by looking into the previous thread and looking for that specific information, or by creating a building thread and keeping it alive. People will follow and will help you at every turn!

    - Sourcing the armor and the soft part is still a problem. So don't expect to find a vendor that has all the armors for the different movies and variation within that movie. Each vendor has his plus and minus, their specificities (better for taller or shorter, ...). You will have to find an armor that match your type and adjust from there. The soft parts are in my sense more important than the armor itself. They are largely defining the amount of work you will have to complete the armor.

    - There is no bad armor, just armor that requires more or less work to be acceptable. I have for one chosen an armor that was controversial (recast) because it was available right now but the price I'm paying is that I have to redo most of the details because the cast was not very clean and the recast made it even worse. But I'm ok with that because it gives me some control over the level of details.

    - If your goal is trooping and not just building a static 1:1 scale model of a stormtrooper, you will have to include a lot of extras beyond the armor. All optionals but that help extending the experience and helps making trooping easier! think about fans in the helmet, voice amplifier and changer, background loops...

    Hope this help!

  3. I don't think I read anything on this topic so let me ask you what are your thoughts...

Are traitor and executioner face characters and therefore could have only one when trooping?

My take, meaning it has no authoritative value, is:

    - traitor: most likely not, since it seems to be a standard TK with special weapon. BTW, did anyone notice that boxes are missing from the forearm on the flat plate? Pretty sure it's to accommodate the stunts...

Executioner: I can see that character becoming a face character, the release of the movie will tell us for sure but should we troop with only one until confirmed?

    Thoughts anyone?

  4. Beautiful sculpt! Lots of very crisp lines. Beautiful!

Now, If I wanted to be overly (accent on overly) critical and trying to be as screen accurate as possible, I would say the chest plate lines around the arm are too linear and should be more rounded. The upper legs pieces should be a little more rounded also when reaching the top of the leg. The cod piece is a little more smooth and does not have any edges/bumps same for the leg, it does not show much of an edge.

Please don't get me wrong, you definitely have a first order stormtrooper armor there! No one would confuse that armor with anything else. I can only imagine the amount of work put already into it! This is awesome work and I would be proud to be caught wearing that armor!

  5. That picture looks horrible if you ask me. The nose bridge has usually a more consistent spacing.

The picture really shows too much too much narrowing black space in my opinion... I hope and it might just be a picture issue.

  6. For the upper levels, I'm wondering if we should talk about continuity of the pieces. At least if not mentioned explicitly, we should have more pictures on the CRL. On the current CRL, I think there are too many "hidden" areas...

For example,I'm having a hard time right now understanding if the chest plate bottom edge should line up with the back plate or if a drop is allowed between the two.

    Thoughts?

  7. Second video is ready! Today, we are unboxing my BBB! Time to get in touch with the armor, start to get familiar with the different parts and think about the work that will be required. Just by looking at the pieces, I already notice that a couple of pieces are going to be giving me some problems (Thermal detonator, Thighs...).

Next video will be about reviewing the parts out of the box and describe the work that will need to be done. I'm thinking about one video for each section of the armor. I will be following the 501st Legion TK FO CRL order.

    Enjoy!

  8. Hello All,

I have been reading for many weeks the different threads, especially ukswrath reference build, and I think it is time for me to start being a contributor. I have created a quick simple 1 min video as an intro to kickstart the project.

    https://youtu.be/pACnxuDeaAw

I will continue creating video for the documentation of my build. I will also post pictures in the forum for easier consumption...

    Important:

Please remember this is my build thread (accent on build thread). I know the controversy about fnarmour. Please refrain from starting any discussion on that topic, there are enough threads dealing with the topic. I will entertain any question related to the kit itself, of course.

  9. I was thinking about something... could it be possible to make this setup both an hearing assist and a voice changer?

Since the voice changer is mono, we should be able to wire two mics on each channel and do the same with the output where it could go to an earpiece for one and to a speaker for the other. If the amplification is done past the split, this should help controlling the levels and keep at the appropriate levels without having a strong dependency.

    Thoughts?
