So after a very long wait, I'm finally ready to start working on my first Sandtrooper costume. Under the recommendation of my local garrison, I've purchase most of my suit from Ooota Goota and collected most of the accessories and parts I'll need to finish this build while waiting for what they called the Big Box Day. I hadn't previously found the time to work on it because of my full-time job and apprenticeship, but now that things are slowing down after the holidays I can finally get started!
And of course the first piece I chose to start with was the helmet. It took me just over a week to get it near finished, but I'm happy with the results so far.
1) Sanding and Priming
2) Adding details with Humbrol enamel
3) Set and ready for weathering
I've been following all the guides and videos I could find that involved painting Sandtrooper helmets as close as I could. Though after looking at it for a while, I might remove some more of that paint before sealing it up. Idk, would this be considered too heavily weathered for 501st approval?
Looking pretty good! Come check us out on MEPD, we’re all about everything Sandie!

They look fine. I have ATA and I liked the strips better than the Anovos ones. I assume you’re using clamps too, I also used blue painters tape and pulled it tight across horizontally. If I had a gap I just put some e6000 in it.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and opinions. I think I'll go for ATA Armor once I get some cash.
Id recommend getting on his list in the mean time, mine took 10 months to get.

Love my ATA, turned mine into a sandy. Thicker ABS, nice and sturdy. I’d buy it again. I trimmed mine with aviation snips.

His videos were my go to for 2 builds. Well done Mike!

I wouldn’t trim anything. From the sides it probably looks that way because there is more black showing. Not sure how your torso piece are connected to each other but I would try and connect the butt plate to the kidney plate so they touch and then shim the kidney plate to the abdomen. On you tube look up tk1636 he has complete build videos if you type in “tk1636 shims” you should find it right away. I think that would help you get the desired look you want. Hope this helps!

You should be fine, as long as you can get a bit of leverage under an edge you can use a blade to cut some glue loose or pry it up carefully. I removed a cover strip and some elastic material with no issues. E-6000 is pretty forgiving.

I used his tracks for my build. They can certainly be bent by either dipping in hot water, using a hair dryer, or over a flame.
Thanks man, much appreciated!

Never heard of him before. Thanks!
Quick question about instillation, can they be heated and bent into the barrel holes? Looks like his site says to glue them.

Anyone know where I can find t tracks? I've ordered an airsoft E11 and need to replace them since they are 1 hole too short. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Not sure why I thought rivets were supposed to be painted. We made corrections yesterday and post the photos later.

Question about the cover strips, I helped noah with his armor. We left the cover strips end at the longest point of the armor, if they have to be adjusted the only thing to do would be follow the contour of the armor piece, is that ok? Should we follow the red line on the photo? Also didn't realize the rivets were not supposed to be painted. Are they to be left unpainted for centurion also? Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated!

For the past week I've been building my sons Anovos armor, I'm close to being done but have a few questions. Unfortunately no pics as Tapatalk isn't working and I can't upload from my phone, also I don't have a computer.
1. The butt plate flairs out a bit. Can I work that with my hands a bit to curve the sides in or do I need to heat it? What works best?
2. We used the Mrnostripes brackets which are great but the chest sits a little high up due to the elastics in the brackets not letting the chest sit flat. I thought about making larger loops to allow it to lay flatter against his chest.
3. The top back plate tends to want to sit low on the back of his shoulders, should that be something heated and bent? He could actually have the front and back plates touching without a gap, I measured out about 1 1/2" of elastic showing on each side, because I'm assuming those plates should have space between them.
my son is about 5'11" and maybe 160lbs, He has room in the armor but I hesitate wanting to trim anything as he may grow a little yet at only 18. Overall he really looks good in the armor and it seems to be more of a fine tuning at this time. Sorry I can't post pics. Thanks for any help, this is my first build. I tried a copy paste of the pic of the butt plate, maybe it'll show up.

I've almost completed my build but the one thing I cannot find is the double cap rivets for the ammo knee. I'm building an Anovos kit and it only comes with split rivets. Does anybody have a source for those? I've looked around but am out of luck, thanks in advance!

Ha, I like pictures too. I'd like to add one but I can't, my Tapatalk isn't working for the FISD since the update and I can't reduce the file size of the pic on my phone to upload it.

I'm ready to add the cover strips to the biceps, where the biceps come together the edges meet at an angle. Should the strips be centered over the butt joint or do you split the difference so the strip is perfectly vertical? I hope I made sense...

Checkout the thread "HDPE Helmet project". He used a propane torch and 90% rubbing alcohol to remove the release agent in the plastic to get the paint to adhere.

I've also seen guys use e600 on the nuts as well to keep them from loosening.

I’ve got ATA armor and I love it. It’s nice thick armor and yes you get the hardware for the helmet with the kit. I had a 10 month wait for mine and payed for and received the helmet when I placed my order so I had something to work on. I built mine into a Sandtrooper and it turned out great.
