  1. Progress Report # 2 November 15, 2015 --------------------- will update again by next weekend if ever.
  2. Hey Everyone! I wanted to start a thread that records the progress of armor building. This is intended for new guys (such as my self) who absolutely doesn't know any abbreviations, suppliers, hardware supplies and etc. I'm one of those who are bad at craftsmanship. Heck, I din't event do well in Origami back in high school. Basically a journal for newest of new, who are trying to get into the 501st. November 1-9, 2015 I started researching about the 501st. Who are they? What do they do? I knew them a few years back when they came to my house one time to do an appearance for my nephews birthday party. 2 Troopers plus 1 Darth Vader. I've always wanted a Star Wars costume but never found one I could readily buy. I wrote the local garrison but got minimal information. Eventually I kept researching and I remembered I had a friend who had a awesome Scout trooper armor and decided to send him a message. Eventually I was introduced to the awesome people of the local garrison and was able to get information on how much kits would cost. One of the hardest decision was deciding what I wanted to be. It was a choice of Scout trooper, Clone trooper or a First Order trooper. They're advise to me was "choose the character that you really really want." After much consideration of costs and timeline, I eventually chose the First Order trooper. So I jumped the cliff, and my journey begins. Geronimo! November 10 - 13, 2015 Many sleepless night. I was very excited to get the set. I researched whitearmor to any information I could get. The supplier I got it from sent me in advance his instruction manual. I was overwhelmed with the amount of work i had to do after purchase! "I've never drilled or anything similar in my life and you expect me to do this?!" - I thought to my self I begged and pleaded to just add a cost for assembly so I can just wear it. He politely declined as he was very busy with other orders as well as his day job. Apparently, this is part of the "journey" in joining the 501st. It's like your initiation rights. Just like a military sniper has to make his own ghillie suit before he deploys. He eventually made a Facegroup chat group which linked me to the other 501st individuals who puchased the set. This helped me greatly as it was sort of a support group for the TFA armor. There was going to be an armor party on Nov 14. I was ecstatic! [Armor Parties - A gathering of 501st members and recruits where they help you build your armor.] November 14, 2015 The supplier called and said my helmet was ready. I drove 2,5 hours in the unforgiving Philippine traffic to get my helmet in the morning and bring it to the Armor Party in the afternoon. Extra traffic as they had their APEC dry run through out the city. 2,5 hours going there, 2,5 hours coming back. Good Lord! I finally got to the armor party and met some of the awesome guys over at the 501st. With out waiting any further I jumped right on it. As instructed, I had to hole out the eyes and mouth of the helmet. Here are some of the 501st guys who were helping me that day. As you can see, the helmet was still whole. He instructed me to drill a hole around the eyes near the edge but not to close so that I can hand file it after for better precision. I was scared to do it as I'm not very good in my hands. I figured I'd go at it with confidence and just do it. So as you can see, I drilled holes around the eyes and later connected the dots to cut out the eye area. A better look at the drilling It wasn't too difficult. Heck, I actually had fun doing it. I did the mouth area next so that I could get some ventilation into the helmet. I finished the armor party that night with the helmet looking like this. Not too shabby for a first timer wouldn't you think? I also tried using the cutting blade of a dremel just to see how that would work. It was a little bit more difficult because of the curves of the eye area. I think drilling holes was much better to do. I did some sanding just to see what that was like. On the side, they were also teaching me how to measure the holes in some of the armor places. I would be getting to this as soon as the armor set arrives. Today, I go to the hardware store and get some metal sand files, sand paper of various grits, paint for the mic tip and the mesh ad head on over to my friends to borrow a dremel. Here is the tool list I used for the day: Dremel [Drill, Cutter, Sander heads] Sand Paper Safety Eyewear Safety Mouth Cover Safety Gloves [Forgive me if I don't mention the right terms of the tools.] 1st day tips I learned: Remember not to drill to close to the lip. If you get tired, rest. Enjoy the company and the journey. Measure twice cut once That's about it for now. I'll update this thread as it progresses. Armor Party!!
  3. Hey this is great! What happens when they grow though? Make new kids to fit them in!
