  1. Hey all. I thought, while I'm waiting for my AM2.0 kit to arrive, I'd start doing some research into building my blaster. I have access to a 3D printer, and I found a file that looks pretty promising. (I'm not a pro yet, but I'm almost certain it's an ANH build... if not feel free to chime in.)

The printing is currently in progress. I'll update this WIP as I make progress myself. Here's my first pic. Thought about using PVC for the barrel, but am going to print the entire thing, see how it goes.

  2. This technically isn't my first post here, because about a year ago (Jan) I started doing some research for a friend. He decided to go a different path, but what I found in my time here (as well as being a life long Star Wars fan) has inspired me to build the most iconic SW costume of all time: the Stormtrooper!

I'm not new to costuming. I am a member of the Mandalorian Mercenaries and have had my Mando since 2009, even though I finally joined the club this year. And earlier this year I created an Imperial Gunner costume, with which I am a member of the 501st.

I think what draws me to the Stormtrooper is how classic and iconic they are. Whenever I do an event and there are troopers around, it's just such a fun thing to see. And for me, it's alluring that everyone knows what they are! I'm used to everyone looking at my Mando and saying, "Oh look it's Bubba Fett!" haha. While the Mando will always be my first love, gearing up as a TK would be another Star Wars dream come true.

Anyway, I've been researching armor. I was oringally thinking about Anovos. I have purchased Star Trek gear from them (I know, I'm ready to be shunned for being a hybrid fan haha!) and it was fantastic. But after doing some research it is my understanding that there isn't a whole lot known about how their build is going to be. Just having everything except the gun and the boots appealed to me, but since I missed the really cheap initial sale, I'm thinking it may not be the right option. I don't really WANT to wait a very long time for ATA, but would consider it.

As far as size, I might be "a little short" for a stormtrooper, but by far am not the shortest I've seen with an awesome TK build. I'm about 5'7"/5'8" ish and 180lbs. Any personal reccomendations for others my size? Looking forward to hearing everone's opinions. My initial budget is somewhere in the neighborhood of around $750. I'm willing to go over that at later times (Maybe for an awesome E-11 or other things required.)

  3. Hey Trev, we have a guy in our garrison who is about your height, if not a fraction shorter. He is building an AM, and has had to trim plenty off it. I guess the advantage of the AM is , it is moulded with lots of excess material to suit a wider range of Troopers.

If you intend to eventually build to a higher level, like EIB or Centurion, you will need to replace the chest and back plate as they are not currently acceptable.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what I was seeing. I think I would go ATA, but to be honest, I really don't want to wait 9-10 months. Haha.

  4. Greetings troopers!

I am here actually on behalf of a friend who is interested in doing a TK, but isn't really keen on doing the research. Being the excellent friend that I am, (Namely thinking how cool it would be to do some trooping with one of my buddies) I joined up here and am doing the kit research for him.

Costuming is one of my favorite hobbies. I've got a TIE RP (501st approval pending) and an IG that I'm just about finished with, as well as a custom Mandalorian that I'll be joining the Mando Mercs with just as soon as I get a chance to take some (updated) pictures with it.

Anyway, I've always been interested in the TK's, but being about 5'8" myself, I decided not to get into the  "short for a Stormtrooper" category, haha! But since my friend is interested, I am happy to be here and excited to work through this process. I get to do all of the fun stuff, and let him spend the money! :laugh1:
