1. I bought the kids 2 piece rubies helmet from off Amazon. I screwed the sides together and used limousine window tint for the visor. I haven't painted it. To be honest it's not a million miles from the paint I've used. I had the armour professional sprayed, they used Fords Frozen White. I've bought one of KBs kids helmets, just waiting for it to arrive.

What were the primer and paint again? I googled the above names and didnt find it. Also, how is the paint holding up? I used Rustoleum primer and white 2X and it's chipping off fairly easily.:(

  2. Two troops so far and still holding together. Definitely a work in progress though.

Nice! What shoes did you have him wear? I ended up buying lace-up faux-patent leather boots that I got off eBay for my son. I had to cut off the tops of the boots though so it'll fit into the calves pieces.

  3. I also used the Rubies 2-pc kids TFA helmet and just modded it to my liking. Like Cricket, I removed the velcro so the two pieces could fit together better. I then used small screws/nuts to attach the two pieces together. I used an extra piece of dark green visor lenses/sheet from my TK build for the eyes. And, I repainted all the black areas on the mask. I sprayed white primer on the interior of the mask to make it less translucent and more opaque.

  4. If I can't get this to work, I was gonna pick one of those up. The reviews just put me off a bit, but yeah, I'm sure I can modify the Rubies helmet to be better/more durable.

Still going to try coring out some of the inside on the bank mod, maybe even shove a deflated mini basketball in there and heat up the whole helmet on a hot day in the car, and pump up the basketball slowly to try to expand it too.

If you weren't planning on modding the Rubies TFA helmet, it would be crappy. However, anyone here can mod it and make it decent.
  5. Sadly, the bank helmet mod is looking to be a bit cumbersome, my kids unfortunately inherited my huge cranium

I need to trim out whatever I can around the eyes/lens and any high spots inside. I'll work on more this weekend.

It's nice practice for when my armor arrives though. Also hoping to piece together a lens kit from scrap on my armor kits I have coming in.

Thanks for the info here guys, my son is stoked.

I purchased the Rubies 2-piece kids' TFA stormtrooper helmet and just modded it to my liking. It's about $20-30 depending on where you get it. It was even under $20 at one point when stores were clearing them out.

With the two piece helmet/mask, I just used the same principles with the TK bucket build to make mods and adjustments. And, it's large enough where my kids and I can even wear it.

  6. Huh? It looks like CTID just started one thread and a few people chimed in on that thread and encouraged/offered help. I don't know where the hurt is coming from?!?!? Dude only made that original post 20 days ago.....I guess he expected a bunch of ppl to post responses.

    CTID,

Just to let you know, most of the members who signed up accounts here only visit this site when they were first interested in buying a TK and during their build. After that, most disappear. There are only a few who actually stay on and visit here often....usually the veterans here. So, you're usually not going to get a lot of responses to any post. Don't think it's because ppl here don't care.

  7. Jesus, reading all these has made me terrified of trooping at all! I was thinking of doing the occasional kids party but maybe that's not a great idea after all..!?

As others have said here, kids can be crazy at parties and in general. You'll need spotters.

From my own limited experience, boys are often a problem and some parents don't have a clue. So, if you're alone, there might be trouble.

  8. I was just starting to go through the door and her eyes got really big and wide, she put her hand on my chest and started pushing all the while, just repeating ..No...No....No...No... I backed up as I didn't want her to completely flip out. No telling what she would have done.

WTH.....who gives her the right to touch anyone in that manner! But again, I think when ppl see ppl in costume, they disassociate the fact that there's an actual person inside. They only see the character. So, normal etiquette is out the door!

  9. Didn't happen to me..but two of my garrison mates, on seperate occasions got shot in the eye during Blast a Trooper. Both wear RS..so the Nerf dart went straight through the flimsy lense material and struck them in the face!

Odd....the green film sheets that most TK buckets use seem thick enough to withstand a nerf gun "blast". Maybe it's just the attachment to the bucket inside? And, the nerf bullet had enough force to dislodge the lens? Is that it?

  10. I don't know it is with ppl (especially males) when they see a stormtrooper. But, ppl love to bang on the armor and men love to punch or slap the bucket! It's happened to me every time I've worn my TK out. Luckily, they haven't been drunk and punched/slapped me fairly gently. But ordinarily, ppl wouldn't just walk up to someone and bang/punch/slap them on any part of their body! LOL

Also, I think seeing a live stormtrooper, ppl let go of their usual inhibitions and think of you as a character from a movie only. Ladies you don't know walking on the street will approach you and touch/hug you!!!!

  11. At C3, a guy asked if I would take a picture with him to show his Karate class, seems he was the instructor. I said sure and without warning he had me twisted over in a very uncomfortable position. Not cool.

Or the time at a childrens museum displaying Star Wars props, when I tried to get on a elevator a mother went ballistic and pushed me out of the elevator because her kid might get scared. Kid did not looked scared, just the mom.

DUDE....what is wrong with that mom?!?!? This is the exact mentality that lots of parents have nowadays....overbearing, overly pampering or protective! She can't make you leave the elevator! You have every right to be there!

  12. From what I've seen personally at school events and Halloween, ppl here are totally right. When you have a costume on, it makes both kids AND adults think they can do whatever they want to you.

Hence, employees in costume in amusement parks always have escorts with them nowadays to watch out for the ppl in costume.

On Halloween, I had a few guys just walk up to me and bang on my bucket or armor! A-holes!

  13. I was at a high school dance, we had a backdrop and were taking photos with all of the students. The kids would come up in groups and do silly poses with us. On girl couldn't think of how to pose. She was looking at me, so I said, "here try this pose". I grabbed her by her shoulders and turned her around so that she was facing the camera. She then turned around quickly at looked at me in horror, she was holding her hand over her breast and had a mad expression and said "hey!" Apparently because I couldn't see out of my helmet well, one of my hands grabbed her breast instead of her shoulder! I apologized and said that I didn't mean to, it's just hard to see out of the helmet. She quickly forgave me. That explained why one of her shoulders was all squishy and felt like it was missing bones. It actually grossed me out at the time. Plus I was wearing gloves anyways so I could barely feel what was going on anyhow. Needless to say, I was very embarrassed and was so glad she couldn't see who I really was under the helmet!

LOL.....that is exactly why when I was at my son's school or during Halloween, I was always VERY careful when girls/ladies wanted to take a picture with me. I NEVER touched anyone when posing for the picture. When I was side-by-side with a girl/woman, my arm would be behind them as though I was going to put my arm on their back or waist. However, my hand would never make contact with them. It would be floating in midair.

So, from the camera's point of view, my arm would be around them or on their back. But, no contact was made with my arm/hand.

  14. I don't know if I would call it a "horror" story exactly, but, I was at a troop the other night at an elementary school, and some little jerk tried to steal my TD! Luckily I felt him prying it off.

When I went to my son's school fall festival evening event in full costume (my kids were also in their Halloween costumes since it was a few days before Halloween), I had the same problem too! It really annoyed me. Most of the parents and kids were really excited and cool. However, there were a few of the teen boys who were annoying. They kept banging on my armor. I also could hear them talking to each other about trying to take off with my TD too!

But, my wife and kids were always around and were my "spotters"! :)

  15. I'm looking for it too but I can't find here in the EU...
Where do it comes from?

I bought it on Amazon for about $25. Repainted all the black areas on the helmet. I had some extra dark green lenses material from my TK build and added it to the helmet. I also screwed the two pieces together and added some padding inside. And, added black mesh over the mouth holes.
