1. Krylon makes spray paint for plastic now. Would still recommend using an automotive primer first, then Krylon paint, then some sort of clear coat to protect the paint.

Looking forward to the progress! I built one of these for my son for the TFA premiere last year. Still have some adjustments to make, and am currently modding his Adult Rubies 2 piece helmet to have a real lens.

I did not repaint my boys last year, but am highly considering doing so for the upcoming Convention season.

  2. For tapered cones i just found tapered drinking cups at a resale shop that i could fit into each other and looked right.

My end caps are open on my tube, i had the luxury of having a friends work shop with this amazing saw available. I don't remember what it is called, but i made my cut lines with marker, while the end caps were attached to the tube, then cut the caps off. It was such a clean cut that it looked almost as if the end caps were apart of the tube itself.

  3. Great. Just looking into this now. I do like the make-up option for weathering. May have to borrow the girlfriend and ask her makeup recommendations lmao. this may raise further questions.

Just get the cheapest one available. My dollar store did not have any so i went to Ulta and bought this NYC brand for $5. I doubt i will ever use it all lol. Oh and my wife gave me an old blush brush as well.

  4. Preston. To answer your question on weathering your armor, what I did was use black eyeshadow compact, and a blush brush. Just rub the brush on the eyeshadow, and simply brush it on your armor as if you are "drybrushing." You only need very little eyeshadow on the brush. A little goes a long ways, and just repeat over the entire armor, helmet, and boots.

My belt is somewhat weathered naturally(I never clean it).

I did not seal my weathering so I could wipe off all of it when I wanted to. Meguiars Rubbing Compound took the eyeshadow right off with minimal effort. I am sure Novus polish would do the same as well.

Take a look at my build thread and HWT Centurion app to get a glimpse of what I did and how I did it.

It is super easy to do!

  5. If you are building from scratch...I would suggest building a T-21 and looking at Spool's resin parts. Blueprints are easily available, and his resin casted parts really take away all of the "hard work."

Another option, is the RT-97C I have seen floating around E-bay. It looks like a solid blaster(and there have been some who have purchased it and loved it here on the forums), and would not take too much to make more screen accurate, if you chose to do so. Last I had checked it was around $100 shipped.

Again, just some options ya have as far as the cheaper alternatives are concerned.

  6. I did the Hasbro Clone Build A Blaster "Poormans DLT" for mine. I would love to get my hands on a Hyperfirm version, however. Depending on the size of the troop and how much room we actually have to maneuver, I switch between my E-11 and DLT.

With the backpack, I am already taking up enough space at smaller troops, so E-11 gets those ones. At a convention or something larger, DLT all the way!
