Yeah I was hoping to go to the MCM but unfortunately I will be away that weekend in Devon putting a smile on great mate's face with a surpris party, he was diagnosed with MND 2 years ago and well .... every special occasion counts and we got to keep him smiling. :)

With regards the UKG it was my understanding (or misunderstanding) you had to be accepted into the 501st to gain access?

You can sign up to the UKG forum at anytime mate :) I signed up to the UKG a good year before I finished my kit. You get 501st membership once you have a cleared uniform. To get clearance you will need to start a build thread on the UKG forum. You'll get lots of advice and tips from their awesome armourers when you do ;) just head over to the ukg website and follow the steps to join the forum :)

I hope your friend has a really great surprise party. I more than understand where you are coming from as my wife has actually just been diagnosed with MND. We are still in the getting our heads around it stage. My heartfelt thoughts go to anyone who has any involvement with this terrible terrible disease...

  3. Hi Steve! Welcome to the FISD!

You've definitely found the right place! Lots of helpful advice and friendly folk here! If you haven't already, then you might also want to head over and sign up at the UK Garrison's forum www.ukgarrison.co.uk lots of advice and friendly folk over there too! I recently had my armour cleared for trooping with the UKG and my first event will actually be in Telford! There will be a big UK Garrison presence and lots of stormtroopers at the MCM comic con there on February 14th at the International Centre.

  4. Perhaps take a piece of your armour down to a model shop that sells ABS and then you can colour match it side by side?  I know that Slough Radio Control Models sell small sheets of white ABS.  I've bought it in there myself in the past for other projects.  Are you on the UK Garrison forum too?  Theres lots of great help and info over there too and their armourers are super helpful and awesome too :)  I'm sure you will find the answers you need either here or there :)

  5. Too many options :explodingemotie:  :P

And what about colour hue? Been looking at buying a couple of spare sheets of ABS for those inevitable over confident balls ups and although they're described as "white" the one I did get was not the "white I was hoping for....

Which armour kit do you have?  Best bet if you can, is to contact the armour maker and ask if you can buy a couple of sheets of the ABS they use for pulling their armour parts.  Then at least you will be certain of an exact match :)

  6. Hi Carrim and welcome aboard!

You are definitely in the right place!  I joined nearly a year ago and I have just finished my Troopermaster kit and been cleared for trooping with the UK Garrison!  I couldn't have done it without the wealth of knowledge here on the FISD!  Everyone is so nice and helpful!  Research research research!  Its worth it!  Good luck with your build!

  7. Hi and welcome to the FISD!  You've already had some good advice on this post, research, research, research!  Its your best friend, and a lot of fun!  The FISD and UK Garrison forums offer a lot of help and advice and everyone is so nice and helpful!  I joined the FISD nearly a year ago and have just finished my white armour and been cleared to troop with the UKG.  I couldn't have done it without the wealth of information and advice available here!  You should definitely check out Troopermaster, his kits are amazing and Paul is a really nice guy too....He does child size armour as well ;)  Have fun!

  8. Lastly tonight, I did a quick test fitting of the top half of my kit which is now pretty much done :)

Last bits I have left are to touch up paint details like painting screw and rivet heads white, attach elastic to the top of the thighs and sort out a belt to hold those up with.  I also need to sort out a new neck seal.  The one I have is a little tight and I'd prefer it to go a little higher along the jaw line towards the back of my head.  My wife is going to have a go at making one up in a nice soft black leather.  We've also sourced some rubber cord that is the right thickness and nice, soft and flexible that we are going to use to pad out the ridges.

  9. Trying to get the belt sorted today.  I have a great canvas belt that I got from TM with the rest of my kit.

I wanted to prevent any unwanted fraying of the edges so I picked up a bottle of 'Fray Stopper' from a local craft shop.  It is great stuff.  clear and flexible and dries really fast.  I just dabbed it carefully from the bottle along the edges of the belt.

  10. Ah, yes, you're right. I now see the difference between neckseal and the tailoring puppet.

    The neckseal is from RSPropmasters?

I couldn't find anything on their Website ...

Hi.  Yes I got it from RS Propmasters.  It was quite a few months ago now that I got it.  I've just had a look on their website myself and its changed a bit since I last had a look.  Can't find neckseals on there either.  Perhaps drop them an email?  Its really nice quality, although a tiny bit tight on me.  I might have not measured my neck right or allowed a little extra when I sent them my measurements.  I'm going to hang on to this RS one for possible display and my wife (who's tailors dummy I have my armor on) is going to make one up for me :)

  11. Wow, this is coming together very nicely, great job, I hear Centurion calling, and can't wait to see your application photos.

Thank you! I'm really enjoying the build! I'm definitely going to go for centurion :)

    Oh, Wow!

    Nice build!

Did you already tell where you got that smashing neckseal from?

Pleather is something I had in mind, too. But I am curios about the "shirt" that is attached ...

Thank you. That neck seal came from RS. It comes as a regular dickey style. The stand I have the body armor on in the picture is covered in a similar black material. I guess that's why it looks a bit like the neck is on a shirt.

  12. Its been a while since I did any work on my kit.  One thing and another has got in the way and prevented me from getting on with it.  Over the past couple of days though I have managed to get going again and have made some good progress on the main body of the armor.  Here are a few pictures of my progress.
