  1. I'm somewhere between 5'9" and 5'10" and weigh 165 lb and have CFO armor excluding helmet & handplates.

I think you can make CFO armor fit you just perfectly :)

  2. Nice build mate!

I couldn't have done a better job on those ab buttons myself in fact until it was pointed out I hadn't noticed them!

Well executed and thanks for the plug and compliments, much appreciated.

    Good stuff.

P .s. ill get those extra bits out to you soon. :salute:

    Mark.

In fact if you don't mind ill stick a link to this build thread on my info for anyone interested in using my armour for this purpose.

    :duim:

Thanks for the compliments Mark, appreciate them :)

Feel free to link this thread anywhere you wish. Your kit was really great to work with !

Easily the nicest incinerator I've seen to date :duim:

    Thanks Mathias, appreciate it !

I just try to live up to the high standards of Nordic Garrison ;)

After finishing my plasma rifle & a few tweaks & adding a few rivets & fixing a couple of things, it's time for EIB and Centurion apps. Hopefully way before CEII

    Looks awesome!

    Thanks Michael, appreciate it :)

  3. And... approved

TK-11767 reporting for duty, ready to get his butt kicked for the Empire !

More pics from my first troop later, they are still in a camera.

Pretty comfortable to wear from the beginning, 3,5 hours in a row was a no-brainer. Just need a few tweaks to prevent biceps & forearms twisting around like a merry-go-round :)

Next phase, finishing the Plasma rifle, aka Flamethrower.

    Cheers,

    Osku

  4. I'd like to see how you modified the 5 vertical ab buttons.  In the photos it looks like it was all vac-formed together.

Thanks Todd, that's a huge compliment because it was what I tried to do :)

I know I took at least one project pic of that button and base but I guess I accidentally removed it from my camera because I can' find it anymore.

Cfo kit came with quite a lot of excess material around parts, good for me because I then had a lot of stuff for scratch building.

The "base" for button was made out of two corner sections from the part you see in next pic. I just cut two of them, made the measurements match the Cfo base, glued (or actually welded) them together and then to the Ab.

I used methyl ethyl ketone ( Butanone or MEK ) to weld the parts together. Besides styrene, MEK works well with ABS too.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butanone

    Corners_zpsfecaec88.jpg

If you look close, you can actually still see the vertical seam in base part, just between Ab itself & button.

    5thbutton_zpsa88a94d3.jpg

To smooth the seam areas I used ABS paste. I use the same MEK for that too, instead of acetone.

I think I repeated the ABS paste - sand smooth process at least 5 times.

I'm rarely completely happy with the work I do (forever-frustrated perfectionist  :P  ) but I think I did pretty well this time.

    5thbutton2_zps24852435.jpg

The button was made out of excess ABS too. Just took piece of it, heated it carefully with a heatgun and pushed from the inside with a flat end of my hand drill.

    Drill_zps8e97c633.jpg

The rest was, again, cutting and welding and ABS paste and sanding...

If anyone wants to do buttons like this, I advice to choose bigger ABS piece, small ones just start to warp from the edges before you can push & form the button. I know, I have several strangely deformed ABS pieces lying in the garage floor :laugh1:

  5. A small update where I'm at the moment.

Still a lot of small stuff to do like weathering parts, securing some parts like belt so it stays where it suppose to stay, finishing helmet ( especially ears ), attaching pauldron so it won't lift the helmet ( couldn't see #%¤& while these pics were taken LOL ).

Also a few parts missing from the pic.

Red markings are a bit too bright in upper pic, lower shows them about right, at least in my monitor... Flower Power

  6. My first attempt at buying armor was well, I'll say a costly mistake, but with a little help from this site my eyes were opened to the crappy armor this company sells. I was able to return the armor for a full refund minus shipping, which was about $105 plus another $27 for the return shipping cause I never opened the box and shipped it back out the same day I received it. So a lesson learned but luckily not the most expensive one of being stuck with crappy armor. I was given a list of sellers that are known for there quality, the first of which I tried is RS props. I've sent two emails to them with no response other than the automated email that says they received my email and they'll try to respond in 24 hrs. But sometimes it may take a little longer. so far its been a week since the first email. I was wondering if anyone else has done business with them and if so is this normal for them not to respond back?

Like others have said, waiting is a part of this hobby.

I got same automated response from RS and that's 5 months ago so they clearly forgot to answer me. ( Got a ATA helmet instead so no big issue or hard feelings towards RS at all )

RS guys are just human and forgetting things is part of being a human. So, I'd say wait a bit more and resend the mail if needed.

    Cheers,

    Osku

  7. Great news, thanks :duim:

Btw, there's still small hick-up in Incinerator CRL.

CRL says about the forearm unit markings: "Special unit details in red shall be present in the form of two vertical stripes, running the length of the forearm. One in the front and one in the back (cover strip area)."

Ref pics and even CRL pic clearly show three vertical stripes.

No big deal for me and this has been discussed earlier. But may cause some confusion for someone just starting.

    Cheers,

    Osku

  8. The helmet needs to be finished. Meshes on mike tips, behind frown.

Sorry for nit-picking here Nicky. What you wrote above might give people the idea that mesh behind frown is mandatory. CRL says "Mesh may be used behind the frown to obscure the face of the wearer." For example balaclava does the same thing. I think it's up to the wearer to decide what to use.

    Regards,

    Osku

  9. I can also share my vision of Plasma Rifle (based on airsoft AK-47, tubing & parts I can find here in Finland) as soon as I find time to do that.

Next 2 weeks are pretty hectic, trying to get my suit ready for approval pics so you have to wait a little if you don't mind.

I don't even have time to update my own build thread at the moment. A great example how NOT to do a build thread

  10. What he said. And it's fiber glass, which won't make you happy. You'd want ABS or PVC.

    What Karin said.

ATA and AM both offer ABS kit if you are considering getting Shadowtrooper.

Edited: I forget AM in earlier post

  11. Thanks Todd, I used tool called "Denial" for my belly ;)

Bye bye Ronald McDonald, sodas, candybars, beer... (well, not all of the beer but most of it)

Looking at the pics now I noticed my left shoulder bell sits really weirdly. I guess the tape behind it keeps it up. I haven't strapped the biceps yet. Have to do that after I've moved bells a bit closer to shoulder straps.

Also noticed that I'm not standing straight and i have what seems like unintentional muscle tension on my left shoulder. I did manage to dislocate my left shoulder two months ago and it's not functioning as good as it did before.

About the biceps, how form-fitting should they be ? Is as form-fitting as possible the ideal ?

They are really comfortable now but I think I can make them little tighter if needed. The forearm you see in the pics is as tight as it can be, I can barely get my hand through it.

    Cheers,

    Osku

  12. I had this BURNING desire...

Now that I have my suit steadily in progress, I thought it is a good time to contribute something to this forum instead of just lurking here.

I'm not going to repeat myself by telling you how I got into this costume building thing, all of it can be found in my small intro. I just say that a year ago I couldn't even imagine building a Trooper suit of my own.

After studying different costumes for a while, I chose Incinerator Trooper for my first suit. Don't ask me why, I didn't analyze it that deep. It just clicked instantly ;)

I found FISD in a very early stage, lucky for me, and started researching. After reading everything possible about Incinerators and this great thread http://www.whitearmo...e-to-find-them/ over and over again, I finally chose Cfo for armor and ATA for helmet.

If someone new to this is considering making a deal either with Cfo or ATA, I can recommend both of them. Both have great products & top notch service.

Mark (Cfo) answered my first PM in 14 minutes ( You read it right folks, in fourteen minutes), kept me updated weekly and sent my armor faster than the estimated turnaround time was.

Same thing with ATA, quick answers and I think I got my helmet in less than 2 weeks. From US to Finland, that is quick.

The first thing I found out after quick trimming of Cfo ab & kidney/butt plates was that my belly didn't fit properly between those. I am lean built but I also had a beer belly.

Ok, I said "I had" because that was 17 lbs ago.

Armor building Step 1: Get rid of that belly - completed :)

Ok, enough of this chitchat. A few pics for those of you who managed to read all this and still stay awake. This is where I am at the moment.

It's 1 am here now and I'm going to bed, need to get up 6 am.

So, questions (a lot of them) later.

All feedback is very welcome, although I'm not new to working with plastic, this is my very first costume build.

    Cheers,

    Osku

PS. Seems like Photobucket is acting stubborn with that last pic, I've tried to rotate and relink it severaI times and still see it sideways

Wow! This is all music to my ears. Like I said, going on 44, father of 2 and still very young at heart. The best part is beginning to share the enthusiasm with my son who is approaching the age I was when ANH came out.

We are pretty much in the same boat, it was our soon 6 year old son whose interest towards Star Wars "boosted" both mine and my wife's interest to a new level. We both have project going on now and next ones already planned ;)

    -------------

  14. Ah, excellent!

Now I remember that thread. It seems we haven't gotten around to updating the CRL to remove the contradictions. I am however fairly certain that if you build you incinerator to Centurion levels you should be approved regardless of what the basic CRL says since Centurion is an addition on top of basic, and should not contradict. And should you not be, let me know and I'll explain to the GML. :)

    Thanks Mathias :)

  15. If Cfo is the way to awesome Incinerator, I'm almost there already :)

To be clear, I have Cfo armor in progress as we speak. And that is a great kit. Going to buy ATA helmet soon. Hoping to get my suit approved by the end of March 2013.

Now the contradictions I mentioned are between basic level approval & Centurion. Seems like i cannot make my Incinerator suit Centurion level right away.

For example, can I get my suit 501st approved if I have a game style Thermal Detonator (Game style TD is what I want to have). Or should I first build a ANH or ROTJ style TD to get approved and change Game style for Centurion pics...

I did ask about holster issue & belt earlier in Incinerator section, and got answered how CRL should be but it still isn't that way. Basic 501st level mandates holster & Centurion doesn't allow one.

EIB states that holster willi be affixed with two fasteners at the bottom of the belt instead of none or four.

Centurion mandates that holster is not allowed and belt should have four (per side, total of 8) rivets forming a rectangular pattern. So I cannot build my belt to be Centurion level right away, as far as I know.

Now don't get me wrong, I know creating and modifying things like CRL and other standards takes time and work. And members who are involved have my utmost respect for doing it.

And I don't want to be seen as a whiner or a difficult person. Like I said earlier, I am just a bit lost here in StandardJungle.

If I need to build two different belts or TDs to be a Centurion, that's the way it is then. Just don't want to do unnecessary work ;)

    Cheers,

    Osku

PS. I AM going to start a WIP thread, just takes a bit more time to get it written. Bear with me ;)

  16. You can't access the threads because you're not an approved TK yet. The threads are in the detachment only section of the forum.

The whole list is as follows:

    • Side and crotch rivets must be split rivets. No brads. Head size: 8 mm.
    • Must use movie correct assembly method, Cover strips for ANH & ESB, overlap for ROTJ.
    • Ab plate button plates must be a 1-part pieces, no separate buttons.
    • No FX armour.
    • Thigh ammo belt must be attached to thigh with cap rivet or split rivet in the upper corner.
    • Sniper knee plate must be correctly aligned with the ridges on the shin.
    • Sniper knee plate must not have visible rivets.
    • Boots must either be worn or not and match condition of armour. Do not mix battle worn boots with pristine armour or the reverse.
    • Any battle wear must be light. No TD-style weathering.
    • Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt without gap between belt and box.
    • Drop boxes must have inner drop boxes. No flat covers.
    • Thermal detonator belt clips must be positioned near the end caps (roughly 1/8" apart).
    • No more than 1 black stripe on each ear (ANH). 2-3 stripes per ear (ESB & ROTJ).
    • Require AM chest and back armour to be replaced with a screen accurate version.
    • Require AM shoulder bells to be replaced with a screen accurate version.
    • Remove the word ideally completely from existing wording.

But each bullet has to be voted yes or no on separately so there is no way of knowing yet exactly what amendments will pass.

Existing centurions are grandfathered as is tradition in the legion, but are of course encouraged and I would dare to say expected (at least by me as a person, not as staff) to update their armour to meet the new requirements.

I hope that clears up any questions you may have.

    Hello Mathias,

    Any news of these ?

I must admit I'm a bit lost with CRLs and EIB and Centurion requirements when it comes to getting an Incinerator Trooper as a Centurion approved.

A few things that still contradicts between 501st approved level & Centurion.

Going Centurion is my goal though, as accurate as I can get. Gotta try to stand up to the high standards of Nordic Garrison ;)

    Cheers,

    Osku
