  1. Hi Sabrina!  Welcome to FISD.  You're in the right place to find all the info needed to build an awesome Stormtrooper costume.

For help finding the armor that's right for you, please take a look at the following link: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/?p=143348

Also, don't forget to refer to the CRL's at http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL when building your armor, as these list the basic 501st requirements for the different versions of the armor.

Once your armor is complete, I hope you will consider joining us in the Central California Garrison (CCG).  For more info on the CCG, please visit our website at www.CentralCaliforniaGarrison.com.  We're also on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CentralCaliforniaGarrison.

And of course, if you have any questions, please post up here on FISD and we'll all be happy to help…

  2. Welcome Sam! Yep, if you're just north of Sacramento than that's Central California Garrison. We're a very active group and cover the valley all the way from the Fresno area up to the Oregon boarder, but Sac is a hot spot. Be sure to check out our website (www.CentralCaliforniaGarrison.com)and our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CentralCaliforniaGarrison). At this time, our forums are for members only. But your welcome to come visit with us at an event or email/PM us with any questions. Of course you've found the right place here on FISD for all your TK needs, these guys are awesome. Looking forward to seeing your progress and hope to be trooping with you soon...

  3. The place I found it is on original stormtrooper. I've heard good things.

First of all, welcome to FISD! You're in the right place to make your dream of becoming a stormtrooper come true. But please don't buy from "original stormtrooper", they are over-priced and not what they claim to be. Listen to the guys here, look into TM or RS instead, but do plenty of research before jumping in. Hope to troop with you soon...

  4. Hey William, I just replied to your email earlier today, looks like you were already in the right place. :jc_doublethumbup:   Welcome to FISD!!!  Lots of expert Stormtrooper advice can be found here.  Check out those links I sent you and, of course, if you have any more questions for us Central California guys, just let me know.  Hope to be trooping with you soon…

  5. I bought the Starkiller saber you have linked for my wife (building her a TKC), only I got it through eBay, not Esty. Same seller though. And it only took a couple of weeks to receive it as far as I remember. It's a good looking saber, bright, with nice weathering, but definitely NOT a battle saber. If you're looking for a saber to do a lot of fancy twirling or battling, this is not it. I'd only recommend it for hanging on your belt, posing for photos, or very light flipping around. Some of the pieces are just glued on and will start flying off if you get too crazy. This is what happened to me anyway. I've since modified it with a good set of bunny ears from CSS and have added sound. I still have some more mods to make, but it was a good start for what I needed. Hope that helps...

  6. Hi Mike!!!  Welcome to FISD… sorry I'm a little late to your party here.  I'm Brian, the XO of the Central California Garrison (CCG), and I'd be happy to help answer any questions you may have.  Since you're in Lodi, you'd definitely be part of the CCG.  Unfortunately the CCG forums do not have a public section and are not open to non-members at this time.  But you're welcome to hit me up with a PM here on FISD or through email.

Getting back to some of the questions you've already asked…

As others have said, a build can take a month or up to a year or so, depending on how much free time you have to work on it.  First time builds will usually be in the middle to longer end of that spectrum because there's a lot of research that goes into the first one.  But just take your time and enjoy the process.

There are definitely a few kits to choose from in ABS that will fit or can be made to fit your 6ft2in frame, but I recommend looking in to the taller armors to be on the safe side.  A good way to see how the different armor types fit is to check out the EIB and Centurion requests at the following links:

    EIB: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/

    Centurion: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/

Also, you're welcome to come see us in person at one of our upcoming events.  Our public events are listed on our website at www.CentralCaliforniaGarrison.com and will be announced on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CentralCaliforniaGarrison.

Looking forward to meeting you and hopefully trooping with you soon…

  7. Hello Ben… and welcome to FISD!!!

I like your "trooper troops" mentality.  Keep it up and you'll be trooping before you know it.  The folks here at FISD are always here to help you along the way and get you into some white armor.  To get an idea of the different types of armor available out there, be sure to look over the armor list here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ .

For a great place to compare how the different armor types fit at various heights and weights, visit the Expert Infantry and Centurion status request threads.  And if you have any questions, let us know…

Sounds like you're just up the road from me and will be joining us in the Central California Garrison.  Looking forward to trooping with you soon!!!    :smiley-sw013:

  8. Thanks! Sonoma County, so about an hour north of San Francisco. Not many imperial evildoers it seems like, north of the city; I would love to compare my progress with a completed set.

Cool, sounds like you're in Golden Gate Garrison territory.  They've got lots of TK's over there, so you should be in good hands.  If you're going to the Big Wow Comic Fest this weekend, you might just run into a few. ;)

  9. Hey Juan, your current CO and your new CO will need to be informed of your transfer request.  They'll need to work together to get you switched over into your new garrison.  I'm not sure about Garrison Carida's policy on transfers.  But in my garrison, the person requesting to be transferred in must troop one of our events before the transfer request can be fully accepted.  Best of luck with your move!!!

  10. Welcome to FISD, Jason!!! I’m in the Sacramento area as well and am one of Central California Garrison’s Public Relations Officers. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about our Garrison.

Sounds like you pretty much know what type of outfit you want to build and have found your way here to FISD, so you’re definitely on the right track so far. As far as the differences for the TK and TD (I assume you’re referring to the Heavy Weapons Trooper and not the Sandtrooper), the base armor is basically the same, just compare the two CRL’s and follow along during your build. I also recommend looking at EIB and Centurion threads for more insight into the smaller details. Of course if you have any questions during the build process, just post up here on FISD. These guys and gals are always a huge help.

Unfortunately, our Garrison forum is not set up for public access at the moment. But you can visit our Garrison website at www.CentralCaliforniaGarrison.com where you’ll find more info about us and upcoming local events. Right now, there’s not much listed, but believe me it’s been very busy, so check that often for updates and come out and introduce yourself in person when you have a chance.

As far as the proper course of action, you’re well on your way. First, I usually recommend deciding on your costume and joining the appropriate Detachment (which you’ve done already). Then once you’re ready to submit to the 501st, fill out the online application, and then send an email with photos to our GML Darren. It usually takes a couple weeks to get the necessary approvals, but then you’ll be able to join the Garrison forum and start trooping.

Oh, and you may be able to find TKboots on eBay from seller: mypropcollection. He usually has a variety of sizes listed. I have purchased several pairs of TKboots this way.

Looking forward to trooping with you soon… :smiley-sw013:

  11. Yep, leave some return edge on, it'll help to keep the butt and back from sliding under the kidney plate. As far as which is up or down, the curvature of the kidney plate should fit the small of your back. So the belt sits in the more indented area and makes the armor look cinched tight. Hope that makes sense.

  12. Hey Anthony,

I spoke to you on the phone yesterday about Stockton-Con, which is coming up soon on Sunday, August 5th. I just wanted to post the info here also in case you needed it again (or for anyone else in the central California area that may see this and be interested).

Here’s the link to their website: http://stocktoncon.com/

The Central California Garrison will be in attendance and have a table set up along with a photo area. Quite a few of us will be there, so it’s a good opportunity to meet a lot of the members. We are scheduled to conduct a panel (2:00pm-3:00pm), where some of the more experienced troopers will be talking about different types of costumes, armor builds, and membership in general.

We’d be happy to meet you there and answer any questions you may have.

    See you Sunday…

    ~Brian

  13. Hey Anthony,

Like the others have said, there is more work to be done…. After looking at your pics, I think you may want to hold off on submitting them to Darren until some further modifications are made.  If you sent them already, I’m sure he’ll let you know exactly what needs to be changed.  But in the meantime, I’ll try to help with a few suggestions…

I was comparing your outfit to the CRL (I’m assuming you’re going for ANH stunt?).

    1)    Boots: You’ll definitely need to get different boots (Try TKboots.com, they are great boots and reasonably priced too).

    2)    Belt: You’ll also need to get a canvas belt (Trooperbay.com has canvas belts or also other venders here on FISD).

    3)    Holster: When you get your new belt, look into attaching your holster the correct ANH way.

    4)    Ab Buttons: Your ab buttons appear to be black (they may also be too large?), so you’ll need to paint them the appropriate blue & gray (take a look at the CRL for the ab button color scheme).

    5)    Calves: The calf closures look like they may open to the outside (can’t really tell for sure).  If they do, you’ll need to change that so the opening faces to the inside.  But make sure you have the shin/calves on the correct legs before making any changes.  Take a look at the shin tutorial here on FISD.

    6)    Although this may not effect approval, you may want to try thinner elastic around the biceps, it may look better.

    7)    Also, as previously mentioned, the “lip†edging around your biceps, forearms, and some other parts may need to be removed.  I don’t know how this lip will effect approval, so you may want to ask our GML directly on that.

Hopefully this helps a little bit.  I know it may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but don’t give up hope.  All these things can be corrected and you’ll be trooping in no time.
