  1. Hi Sam,

Welcome to the Forum. I understand your pain on the armor wait. I've also ordered RT-Mod, but mine should be due to ship any day now, can't wait. I also got going on the accessory orders thinking I'd have everything nearly ready by the time I had the armor built. Turns out I've now got everything except the plastic and it makes the wait seem soooooo much longer. Good luck with your build.

    Cheers

  2. My fiance and I are in the process of starting to order and build our armor and are planning to get 501st approved as well. We are also getting married in said armor in just 7 short months! Her idea by the way. :-) Any tips or help would be awesome!!! biggrin.png

I have an idea, . . . . . . . . . . hold onto that Girl forever!!! Very cool, just saw this thread, hope the wedding went well. Congratulations!

  3. Craig,

We're in the same boat! I've got everything ordered and it's all coming in bits and pieces from all over the world, but none of it has reached me yet :( It's all got postage tracking on it, so the tracking sites have become like my own little version of race around the world. Every time I check on it (pretty much every 5 minutes!) I'm like "Ooooh!! Armour has taken the lead! C'mon, pass that customs! Go baby, Go!!!". I have a feeling the boots and body suit will turn up first, and I'll be forced to sit around the house in some, sad, beer carton armour/creation, just to take the edge off.

The blaster is the only thing eluding me at the moment - need to do a bit more home work on that.

When is SupaNova? It always snuck up on me up there, and I missed it every time. If I can pull it all together in time, I'll hopefully be there! :)

What's sad about sitting around in an incomplete suit? While I was carful to avoid any photographic evidence, I may have been sitting in my lounge chair dressed in my Boots, Undersuit, Neckseal & Balaclava just last week after my lovely wife had gone to bed. While she's supportive of my new hobby/obsession, I think I would have been made to pay for getting caught! You're right about it taking the edge off but.

I really need to work on my weight distribution, me in a skin tight lycra suit looks a bit like 10lb of sausages in a 5lb bag.

As far as the E-11 goes, it all depends on what level of accuracy you're striving for, as I'm going for EIB/Centurion I purchased a Resin blaster built by a member of our Garrison. If your interested his name is Crypto and I think he's got one in the Junkyard Forum at the moment. Beautiful work, I can email you a couple of photo's if you want just pm me your email address.

I also found a great local source for undersuits if your interested. They are down your way to so it might be easier for you to get into a store to try one on for size.

Would be great to have you at SupaNova, it's Fri.09/11-Sun.11/11. We'll have a couple of tables, our Death Star Corridor Backdrop, Photobooth ect. setup so really can't wait.

Keep us updated with your progress.

    Cheers

  4. HI Beverley,

I'm a Redback Member & saw your introduction over there. I'm also building an ANH TK so I can understand your excitment. Have you selected Hero or Stunt? Can't wait to see some progress pictures of your build, I'm trying to surviive the wait for my armor by living vicariously through others builds!

My armor should be here around the end of the month. When I placed the order for the armor I thought I'd better get cracking on the orders for the various accessories as I figured by the time I'd built the armor I'd pretty much have everything else and have nothing holding me up. I obviously misjudged both my excitment and the speed in which the various suppliers I ordered from dispatched the items as I've now got a large black storage crate sitting in my lounge room full of toys (Blaster, Neck Seal, Boots, Belt ect., ect.).

It would be great to have you in QLD for a troop and you'd be well looked after, the Redbacks are a great bunch. Our next big troop is Brisbane SupaNova, and ideally I'd like my TK finished for it.

Anyway have fun and I look forward to trooping with you in future.

    Cheers

  5. While RT-MOD is a great armour and great seller it's really not fair to say it's accurate like TM. They are miles apart.

RT-MOD is however a great alternative to AM.

Yeah OK fair call I could have worded that better. Perhaps I should have said "the most accurate for those of us with weight distribution issues", unfortunately we can't all be 1970esque troopers at 5'8" & 170lb.

  6. Welcome Darion,

Armor choice largly depends on you body size, but also comes down to how far you want to take your build as far as accuracy goes. Theres plenty of information on here regarding the different brand builds so I'm sure you'll find something to suit you. I'd recommend contacting your local Garrison as they will be you're best point of contact at this stage. You may even be able to attend an armor party or go along to see them trooping. This will allow you to actually eye ball different armor to see what may suit you the best. Welcome to the journy.

    Cheers

  7. I've been a fan ever since the first time I saw "A New Hope" as a kid and I always will be. I pretty much can't wait to be able to join in with the others and start trooping so this will get me there until the TK's up and going. Sux you had such a wait for your armour, strange there was a hold up between Canada & USA but I guess it was about that time that it all cracked down.

Sounds like you're husband is in the same boat as me, but at least he's got height on his side, I'm only 6' and if I was 6'4" I wouldn't have such a "weight distribution issue"! I'm sure you've probably already come accross it, but if not there is an awesome build thread on here by a guy called Eric who's user name is Darth Aloha. He is 6'5" and 245lb and the RT-Mod fits him well, so I'm sure your husband will be happy. Rob from RT-Mod is a great guy and has been very patient answering all my newbie questions, I'll definately be going with his armour when I place an order.

A lot of the guy's in my Garrison also serve double duty as Rebel Scum so I saw some great costumes last weekend at the armour party. Good luck with your A-Wing Pilot.

I can't believe I'm doing this but here is a picture of "some bloke" wearing someone elses armour and looking like a kid at Christmas !post-16004-0-06172600-1332849104.jpg

  8. Welcome Bonnie, you'll have a great opportunity to do you're research and be ready to pull the trigger when you're old enough. There's nothing stopping you building your armour and being ready when the big day comes. I'd suggest getting in touch with your local garrison and offering your services as a wrangler. At least then you get to know everyone, and believe me your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  9. Hey Jenny,

Thanks for your message. I haven't been on here for awhile as I'm working on another project and haven't been game to mention it here  ! Basically I just can't wait the length of time it will take to get my TK armour over here and built so I've decided to go with another costume to let me get approved and allow me full forum access, the ability to troop, and the added bonus of being able to boss around TK's! As you can probably tell I'm going with a Staff Officer as it's the cheapest option and is still kind of TK related, and as I think I'll be able to get out of it for around $300, I'm not taking too much cash away from my TK savings. I still badly want the TK and it will certainly be my main costume as I'm planning on building for Centurion level accuracy from the start, the Officer will just let me join in on troops as more than a wrangler (yes I'm hopelessly impatient, I know). Basically Rob's waiting list is currently end of April and as our biggest troop of the year is in May the officer will get me approved as a stop gap.

I got to my first armour party last weekend and had an awesome time, what a great bunch of guy's & gal's in my Garrison, super friendly and great fun all round. One of the guy's was kind enough to bring his assembled, untrimmed AM along for me so that I could at least try some of it on to get a feel (no chance of fitting into his legs). I tried the Ab/Cod/Butt/Kidney assembly on and I recon with a 1/2 Inch extra either side would have been perfect (as I plan on loosing 10-15lb I think I'm on the right track), so I know I'll be happy with the RT-Mod sizing. I also tried the chest/back and it felt like an old friend, talk about grin from ear to ear, I looked like a kid on Christmas. I also tried on a forearm and got a glimpse of what everyone talks about in having such restricted mobility.

As far as buckets go I tried a couple, the first an MM which is made locally here in AUS but it was way too small and sat on top of my head like a Kippah or Yarmulke. The 2nd (which brand eludes me at the moment) I managed to get on, but it was so tight up against my left eye I couldn't open it. I could open my right eye so at lease I got an idea but I once again I think I'm on the correct path with the RT-Mod being 4% bigger.

Anyway long story short I had an excellent time at the party and I'm still keen on the TK so I'll be sure to "Stay on Target"!

    Cheers

  10. Hi Eric,

Just wanted to say thanks very much for such a comprehensive build thread. I've just recently joined my local Garrison's Forum and have been fererishly researching armour. At 6' & 145lb I was initially thinking about AM, but as I want to build for EIB & then Centruion right from the start I think I'll go RT-Mod. Having to change AM armour chest/shoulder/back out or modifing it seems like a step backwards, and I've just seen the drama a local has gone though with the incorrectly molded AM shins.

I emailed Rob and he responded with pricing quickly and answered all my Newby questions patiently.

I've got my first armor party on this weekend so I'm really looking foward to not only meeting the guy's & girl's in the Garrsion, but to see some armor up close & personal.

Anyway thanks again, your thread is bookmarked (along with the EIB submission) so I'm sure I'll be referring back to it frequently.

    Cheers

    Craig

  11. Hey Micheal,

Welcome to the Forum. As another Newby I'm also in the process of researching armour, and it sounds like were in a similar boat as far as looking for larger armor. Good read on Rob's website www.rt-mod.com along with pictures of the armor throughout it's development and various versions, and great info regarding Rob using his own body to allow for extra room for bigger guy's. Sounds like a bit of a man crush I know but seriously he's been great to deal with.

I'm not sure if you've contacted Rob yet but he has answered all of my questions promptly and efficiently. As I said in my welcome thread if service alone was the deciding factor I'd have already placed my order.

As it turns out, there are a couple of other guy's in my local garrison now interested as well so hopefully we'll be able to place a bulk order with Rob soon.

As far as Jenny's post regarding Darth Aloha's build, I'll be looking at that with great interest.

    Good luck with your build.

    Cheers

    Craig
