  1. I didn't see a 'pinned' topic about this while searching here or in the For Sale (Ongoing) forums so please excuse me if it has been covered.

By chance I came into a second Hasbro for free during my build, so I would like to convert both at the same time.

I was about to order a second Doopydoos conversion when I learned about Striker TK-4416's black molded version.

The prices are roughly equivalent. Is one preferred over the other for any significant reasons? Are there yet other off the shelf conversion kits besides these?

I did see Striker's conversion kit mentioned in DDay's consolidated vendors thread but just wanted to confirm if Striker and Doopydoos are the only out-of-the-box Hasbro makeover kits.

    Many thanks,

    Matt

  2. To be fair I do have an AP suit which is on the slimmer end of the scale, but the magnets work for me. Have you tried using double sided tape and velcro for a test fit?

I test fitted before gluing, everything is/was fine. The back (open) sides close back into place nicely around my forearms and calves. I just want to "lock" them for trooping, movement etc. and wondered if the magnetic strips might be smoother and narrower than velcro.

  3. Hello All,

I did a search on this with no returns so if I did it wrong I apologize.

I've been assembling my RT-MOD build. The fit is perfect so far.

On the forearms and calves, the "open" side basically "locks," or closes back into place on me without any adjustment needed. I was marveling at the overall lack of a "seam" and it occured to me that since the "open" tabs (or layers) fit together so well, a crunchy velcro connection might actually be a little bit "in the way," if you will.

Then I remembered the magnetic strips that come in a roll at Home Depot. I have used them on accordion doors to "snap" the doors firmly shut. I wondered if a strip was glued on each side with E-6000, the "open" ends would just "click shut" into place after I inserted my forearms and lower legs.

Maybe a magnetic strip on each side wouldn't be much narrower than velcro, but it wouldn't crunch, either.

Does anybody know of this having been tried?

    Thanks,

  4. Hey all. Been studying the forums for about three weeks, contacted my local garrison and plan to order from Rob this week.

Several of the tutorial links go to a page labeled "Joomla" / Academy and prompt for another login, apparently different from that of the forums. I did a search on the main page but found no further info. Sorry if I am overlooking something obvious but can somebody please advise?

    Thanks,

  5. Thanks Paul, and yes of course it is OK for folks to enjoy the hobby of creating screen authenticity.

I fear that I came across wrong in my initial post. That is probably because as a newbie, I was feeling increasingly discouraged about passing muster with Garrison Titan. I wasn't trying to knock other fans. But I guess when I read the one TK's scathing criticism of a vetted, 501st-approved set used by many, I was taken aback and began to sense a kind of pecking order that perhaps doesn't exist at all.

  6. Thanks Gaz, and just to clarify so nobody gets the wrong idea, that comment ("looks like s***") was not on an FISD forum thread, but on a TK's exteral site, _linked_ from a thread in the Getting Started forum, which gave a super-detailed comparison of the different armor sellers. Other TKs in the theads made comments such as "dude, don't get [ABC], you should get [XYZ], it is waaay more screen accurate," "so-and-so's helmet is awful," etc.

Your comments about the vibe of troopers helping troopers are very reassuring. Thanks!

  7. Hello TKs,

I have been reading through the forum threads for about a week now, in preparation for contacting one of the vetted makers. I will (eventually) be seeking membership in Garrison Titan, Washington State, as a regular, "everyday" stormtrooper. Wasn't sure whether to post this concern here vs. there.

I have read in the CRLs and threads about the accuracy standards for membership. I get that. Makes total sense for a ton of reasons.

There is, however, lots of discussion about accuracy _above_and_beyond_ what is required. Hero vs. Stunt, ATA vs. TM, qualifying for EIB, on and on and on. In one particular linked page, a highly esteemed TK (name not necessary) was thoroughly unloading on one of the vetted builders that he said is used by 90 percent of 501st members, and that in his opinion, that suit looked like s***. I have seen the builder's work and I thought it looked great. My point is, that some of the comments about accuracy had the faintest echo of snobbery.

There was another thread where Daetrin or some other respected TK said the whole idea of going nuts on meticulous accuracy for (additional) ever-loftier standards is not important or necessary for some or many members and that was fine or OK (I am paraphrasing here, not quoting).

That would be me. The whole thing of continuing to strive for infinitesmial accuracy (beyond the necessary requirements as stated) has no interest or appeal for me. Too much other stuff in life. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but costume making is not going to be my new hobby. My goal is to have fun, fulfill a childhood wish from 35 years ago of suiting up in the shiny white armor, do some good for the community, bring a smile to little children's faces in a hospital or whatever, pose for pictures with fans or kids etc., and make new friends.

So, just to be clear, with that in mind, will I still fit in with this community? (Be it FISD, Garrison Titan or the 501st) Please share your thoughts.

Mods, if this query belongs in a different forum, please move or delete.

    Thanks, Long Live The Empire,

    Matt

  8. Hello FISD, my name's Matt and I live in Bonney Lake, Pierce County, Washington State.

I recently met several members and the commander of the Dewback Ridge Garrison while on vaction this week in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were making a troop with the Darth Vader hot air balloon from Belgium, at the International Balloon Fiesta. I thought they were from Lucasfilm and was then pleasantly surprised to meet members of the 501st for the first time. I knew about the 501st but it has always seemed remote and inaccessible to me. Actually talking to the members in Dewback Ridge helped a lot. Very friendly and welcoming.

I have been reviewing the FISD forums and am interested in eventually becoming a member of Garrison Titan as a very basic, run of the mill, plain, vanilla stormtrooper.

I am 6' 1", 225 lbs. If anybody reading this can readily confirm that AM and RT-Mod are still active, I would appreciate it. I am holding off on e-mailing, until I have thoroughly reviewed the Getting Started forum threads and the various building threads.

    Thanks,
