thanks guys! and yes Darth Clouds I certainly intend to leave lots of plastic on those ear caps for starters...like I said, the beauty of this forum is seeing where others have gone before!
-
LOL thanks. I'm quite good on mesh though...you can actually see the bottom of the huge roll I have in the third pic from the top, with the purple label on it!
I'm just glad I didn't slice my finger yet...
-
Well, this will hopefully be a "what I learned from everyone else" thread.
Here goes. I have begun...
I'll post more pics as I progress, but I've got up to cutting the right eye. No sanding yet, but it's a start.
sanding soon...!

I will be glad to donate to your vinyl fund Scott if/when I arrive at the pinnacle of TK-ness. Hey vinyl costs money! =)

dang I love this forum.
I just logged on to post a question about using rivets and found this thread.
My question was about the big bulb of metal that ends up on the one side of the rivet:
-----------
I'm preparing to rivet a holster to a canvas belt, and I'm wondering if I'm going to end up with this lightbulb-shaped wad of metal on the belt side...? It looks like all this does is expand the darn hole! Or will the washer help control that?
Anyone have shots of their riveted holster/ bandolier???

just waitin on my canvas belt and i should be in like Flynn

oooooh fantastic. thanks Armando I just bookmarked that thread =)
beautiful job!
you obviously aren't a coffee drinker, judging by the steady painter's hand you've got! wow...
-
awesome, thanks Doug. I don't think I'll be doing anything to it in the near future. I've got an AP on its way as well LOL so I'll have my hands busy with buckets for a while.
But I will certainly be doing my homework before attempting to finish the HDPE

lol i knew. I'm just hoping there is indeed a good way to prep the helmet if/ when I decide to make that jump!
-
if anyone can lead me to some definitive threads or sources on how to CORRECTLY paint HDPE I'd really appreciate it! From what I've read so far I'm a little afraid.
Okay, I'm a LOT afraid.

Strange thing about my bucket...
I have a few CPU fans mounted inside, one over each of my temples.
The most bizarre thing is, after they reach their maximum spin rate, they create a sound that EXACTLY mimics the sound effects of light sabers when they are moving in mid-air--the "wow-wow" sound. One of these days I'm going to record it and post. It's pretty cool! A perfect sound effect by chance.
-
thanks Doug I can't wait. (where's the 'drooling' emoticon when you need it?)

Doug-
PM sent =)
I have a TE HDPE available for sale.It is in the original "kit" form assembled but unpainted just as Matt sent it to me. I hate to part with it but funds are tight right now. Asking $275 plus shipping (US only please). If I remember correctly it cost about $10 or $11 to ship it to me here in Alaska, so I imagine that say $10.50 for shipping would be the shipping price.
Don't miss out on this as Matt isn't offering these anymore.
I can take paypal but need to cover fees if so (4%) I prefer Money Order that way you don't have to pay the extra PP fee. PM me for PP ID or Mailing address.
Thanks for the read.

heck I'm still trying to figure out why LF hasn't simply licensed the production of armor yet...if anyone knows why they haven't lemme know. I'm guessing it is simply to help foster the costuming community and "fandom" but I could be wrong...
-
now that is a cool tip to know. thanks 4 posting! being an owner of sds armor, most of the edges on my set already return in like that, but there are areas I've considered trimming and now I know just how to get the look back. tnks

I have a new appreciation for dentists and dental assistants.
So far so good, with no screwups! I kinda like how she's turning out.
