  1. Trying to round off the top of the ridges is my issue :-s

Will have a play tonight :)

Do you have any small files on get a small dowel rod from a hardware store or hobby shop and wrap it with sandpaper

The dowel rod with sandpaper will do the same as a file to shape the dips for the ridges....

  2. Looks like I may have to go for a stunt version as trying to shape fibreglass and bondo with sandpaper on that small a scall is useless :)

    Cheers anyway :)

I don't know any armor makers here that just make the antenna section only. they just make the whole ear( stunt or hero) by vacuum forming out of ABS or HIPS.

FX is the only one that I know, that the antenna section is seperate from the rest of the ear. but it's the 4 ridge stunt verison too.

  3. heh Tom,

Made the changes to the ridges already :-s

Never mind.... anyone know where I can get green bubble lenses?

I do like the low brow look though, makes it look mean as anything :P I will raise it a bit, I may follow Aid's route and grind the fibreglass brow off and stick on a rubber (authentic looking) strip ;)

  4. bugger!

I didnt put new ears on, I decided to shape the existing ones with a dose of P38/bondo and a dremel :P I take it I now have to re-do this haahaa

no worries. Am I right in thinking that 'Hero' lids had blacc bubble lenses as well?

    Hey Stephen,

Has the weather warmed up over there?

Your Progress is looking good. I was just wondering which version are you doing of the helmet. Is it a hero or a stunt?

Why I asked, you have three teeth on each side of the frown which is typical of a hero helmet. The new ears that you have on the helmet are the stunt version, which has four ridges on the center piece of the ear that is painted gray. I didn't want you to get too far and have to to back up and do the modifications after getting your paint laid.

Either modification is very easily done by adding another tooth slot on either side to make it a stunt, or making the four ridges into a three ridges for the hero.

  5. According to Rustoleum US (Cheers Roguetrooper for the leg work on this) the Rust-Oleum Professional High Perfomance Enamel 7500 aerosol series is comparable to the Rust-Oleum U.K .division Hard Hat Topcoat 2100 aerosol series.

    So happy days :D

I just need to go and get some, as most places which stock this paint want nearly £10 per aerosol and then VAT at 17.5% and then charge a £5-8 delivery charge!

AFAIK - for the longest time, Halfords Appliance Gloss White was the paint to use in UK

the finish never looks as good as the one frmo Rustoleum though

..... very intersting with teh paint you foudn though, I might just go and get myself some to have a go.

might want to think of a lacquer as well - although opinions are mixed on this one

    Nate

  6. Oh yeah - just finished attaching the ears, filling & sanding (Some small areas of finer detail sanding still needed) - after cutting & shapping them as the detail was so soft they simply had 1 bump on them instead of 4 rounded part on the main antenna Let me know what you think?

I am think of removing the fibreglass molded brow as it is quite difficult, due to the terrible fit, to get a screen-accurate U-shaped rubber to fit... therefore I have sourced (Cheers Aid) a potentially suitable replacement solution:

  7. After a hell of a lot of work and chasing around by RogueTrooper (Really appreciated!!!)

He managed to find the comparable products in the UK for Rustoleum High Performance gloss white & Primer are:

Hard Hat Topcoat enamel aerosol paint Gloss White number code: 2192

Anti-Corossion aerosol primer Grey number code: 2182

    :D Available from www.buckandhickman.com

    YEAH!

Will post pictures when I get this lid painted (May have to wait for the snow to stop falling and the summer/spring to return)

  8. Just heard back of the vendor on Fleabay:

    ==============================================================

Many thanks for the email and question.

The helemt finish is the fibreglass gel coat.

I would suggest the best paint is automotive, its easy to work and gives a hard finish.

    ==============================================================

Would Rustoleum (which paint? UK) or Plasti-kote still be the best (I've used automotive before, and it was a crappy result)

  9. as you can see from the face on shot, the face plate has a little kink in it that makes the plate not so rounded on one side, I take when it is all lined up and fitted (Obviously I will have to take the eyes out to enable me to clamp & test) will this then resolve itself?

I don't think so, maybe a little bit of the top, but only do so after you've test fit everything.
  10. Hi All,

Once again, I may have jumped in before fully doing research, and tbh - before I joined this here forum, I bought what I thought would be an fairly good quality lid kit from fleabay - from VT/General Veers whatever you want to call him.

The plastic (ABS) is extremely thin in places and the lines are all over the place... :(

I have been looking on here for tutorials on how to build, but I dont seem to be able to find any. I am particularly interested in the line which should cut which is covered by the ears/antenna on both the front plate and rear section... does anyone have a shot of this?

    whoops.....

I think now, with 2 duds..... i have now learned my lesson.... I will however, make them both, and see what they look like :D

  11. Thanks everyone :D

I hate not finishing something when I have started it... so it is with this. I am happy with where I have got this lid now, basically I have filled and reshapped quite a bit of it, and although the details are 'soft' I think in the end it could look good as a show piece :D

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to paint this? I was going to use car paint - grey primer, white colour coat and clear glossy lacquer, but I have had varying results on other projects with this in the past - where the colour coat moves under the lacquer.

I have looked into spray enamels, the top one here being Plasti-Kote - white primer, white colour (glossy)

    Any suggestions on this? B)
