  1. Hi Patrick! I'm a member of the Georgia Garrison (and I live in Atlanta) so let me welcome you to FISD.

If you're interested in doing a sandtrooper costume, be sure to check out the Mos Eisley Police Department (MEPD) forums <http://forum.mepd.net>.

Also, if you haven't done so already be sure to check out the Georgia Garrison boards as well <ga501st.com/forums>. Between the two, you should be able to get most of your questions answered.

Feel free to let us know how we can be a resource and good luck on your build!

  2. Excellent question Jimmy. I'm pretty curious to hear others' thoughts on this myself. I've heard that it doesn't have a real meaning or designation, but could be wrong. For what it's worth, I always thought it would be cool if "TK" stood for Trooper Knight, but that's just a personal wish/preference, no more. :) Anybody have any historical info about the designation?

  4. Welcome Brad. As others have noted, you're definitely in the right place. Between the resources here and involvement with your local garrison, you'll more than likely have all you need (and then some) in terms of resources and know-how.

As someone who is now several months removed from my first TK build, I understand/agree that it can be overwhelming. Just keep reading/researching, asking questions as they arise (we're a pretty welcoming bunch) and then reading some more and you'll realize your dream of donning the white armor sooner enough.

Good luck on your build and again, welcome to FISD! :)

  5. Hi Davis,

First off, welcome to FISD! I'm a member of the Georgia Garrison who recently completed a Stormtrooper costume, so feel free to ask any questions that you may have. Also, do you remember who in the Garrison you spoke with? I only ask because maybe I can shoot them a friendly PM to make sure we're serving as a resource for a potential/future trooper. As was mentioned earlier, definitely check out the Garrison forums (forums.ga501st.com), since that's where most of the communication happens. Also, since you've already found your way over here to FISD, you've already hit the motherlode of Stormtrooper resources. Just start (or keep) browsing the forums, reading topics, and asking questions...then browse some more, read some more, ask more questions...well, you get the idea. :)

As you noted, there aren't a ton of troopers in the Augusta area, but nonetheless we're here to help however we can. Also, are you planning on attending Dragon*Con this year? If so, that'd be an excellent place to meet alot of the guys in the Garrison and get some of your questions answered.

Welcome again to FISD, and don't hesitate to let me know how I can help. :)

  6. Greetings all,

I need your help! Now that I've got two costumes (my Vader :vader1: and my TK :trooper:), wanted to check and see if anyone knows how to create those super-cool animated signature banners that fade in/out both pictures and text? I'm basically trying to modify (or re-do, if necessary) my existing banner that shows only my Vader (see below) so that it'll fade into the corresponding pictures and info about my TK. Here's the signature banner as it is now:

    Darth_Knight1SignatureBar.png

Ideally, I'd like the modify the file (or create a new one, if necessary) so that it'll simultaneously:

    1) Fade out from the Vader pic into one of my Stormtrooper (attached below)

    2) Fade out from the "SL" designation into a "TK" designation

    3) Fade out from the "Darth_Knight1" (my default legion moniker) into the name "Storm_Knight1" (my FISD screen name)

    4) Fade out from the round Sith Lord Detachment logo into the FISD detachment logo (also attached below)

I'm sure this is probably easy to do for those familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite programs (e.g., Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator), but since I'm pretty Adobe illiterate, figured it'd be best just to ask for some help/guidance from any of the creative folks in the detachment. Open to any and all help, suggestions, etc., and thanks in advance for the assistance!

    UPDATE:

For anyone that would like to throw one together, here are the higher quality versions (e.g., not just thumbnails) of the source pics. Feel free to crop, chop or edit as needed... :)

UPDATE: My GML just sent me a PM letting me know that he's approving everything on the garrison level today, so with any luck I'll be hunting down rebel scum as an official legion TK very soon!

  8. Greetings FISD!

NOTE BEFORE READING: I just submitted pics my TK pics to my local GML for approval (on 7/3/10), so I recognize that this EIB request can't be official until after I'm cleared at the garrison and legion level. Nonetheless, wanted to go ahead and post my EIB pics for preliminary review.

    Here's the backstory:

    - Caught the costuming bug last year after my girlfriend and I decided to go to a local costume party as Vader and Padme

    - Worked for several months on Vader, completed it, then joined the legion in March of this year

    - Began trooping and started to really admire/appreciate the look of the classic stormtroopers

    - Heard about FISD, registered and began reading all the great resource info about putting together a quality Stormtrooper

    - Purchased an AM kit, linked up with some local Garrison members, and after five weeks of late nights (...AND lots of ABS cement, painters tape, snips, clamps, rivets, snaps, velcro ), I think I'm almost ready to call this one done.

Here's the rundown of what's included:

    - Armor: AM

    - Helmet: AP

    - Blaster: Modified Hasbro w/ Doopydoos resin kit, additional t-track and D-ring attached

    - T-track: Smitty

    - D-ring: Karin/Sonnenschein

    - Mic Tips: Air-ship Hovi Mix speakers

    - Neck Seal: TK 409

    - Lenses: Green acetate film facing outside, with green welder’s shield from TK-4510 on inside

    - Gloves: Nomex

    - Boots: TK Boots

    - Belt: Rob/TKittel

    - Holster: Anrev holster, attached to belt with two rivets

    - Abdomen plate buttons: Testors No. 1772 Model Master (Blue Angel Blue) and Testors No. 1138 (Gray)

    - 3 rivets on left side of abdomen, 1 snap on right side

    - 3 rivets left side of kidney

    - Split between back and butt plates, respectively.

    - Rivets attaching ammo pack and sniper plate, respectively

    - Shoulder straps are free floating, with thin white elastic straps holding them down

Want to also offer a huge "thank you" to everyone that offered their advice, support and encouragement with this build. Assuming my GML ultimately gives me the thumbs up, here are my submission pics requesting EIB status for soon-to-be TK-9763. Please feel free to offer suggestions and/or recommendations, and I look forward to hopefully joining the EIB ranks soon!

    Only the best,

    Storm_Knight1

  9. Thanks for the help fellas! Just added it (see pics below).

Now just need to find out about correct rivet size for the left side as well and I'll be ready to get these EIB pics ready. Anyone know what's considered screen accurate (see thread link below):

  10. Looking for some suggestions and options from my TK brethren...

    Hi all,

As some of you know, I'm in the final stages of completing my AM armor build and going for both legion approval and EIB. On the torso portion of my build, I can easily overlap the ab and kidney plates to close the left side gaps on my AM armor. My dilemma is this though: I'm debating whether or not to add rivets to the left ab/kidney plates. Here's a pic of the torso without any rivets attached:

AM Armor Torso - Left Side View

    AMTorsoPic-LeftSide.jpg

From what I understand, I can still make EIB without adding the rivets. Still, I'm curious the following:

    1) Has anyone else with the new AM armor tried adding rivets? If so, any pictures about how the final product looks on this specific armor?

2)What size rivets do people use? 1/8" or 3/16"?

    3) Assuming I do go for the rivet option, is there a way to just glue the head/exposed portion of the rivet to my armor to give it the 6-rivet look without actually drilling the holes and creating real ones?

Please sound off and let me know your thoughts!!!

  11. Hey all,

I'm almost done with my AM armor build, and since I'm building it with EIB status in mind, I need some trooper help/clarity:

The EIB requirements are very clear about what to add to the left side of the torso (e.g., "rivets on the left side of the ab/kidney plates"), but I've seen lots of troopers with a button of some sort on the right side of their ab plate (see picture below).

    TK-RightSide.jpg

    Two questions:

    1) What is this button? Is it a rivet, a snap or something else?

    2) I'm pretty certain that it isn't mandatory for EIB status, but is it mentioned anywhere in the EIB requirements? I've checked the updated list, but don't see anything mentioning it.

I know it's a small detail, but I figured I'd ask in hopes that someone can help. Please sound off so this soon-to-be TK can put his mind at ease. :)

    Thanks in advance!
