Although I am not familiar with yellowing on RS armor, many troopers who have had that problem have used Trooperbay's ArmorWhite gel with success. My AM armor is ABS, and despite dozens of troops in the Florida sun it has never had any discoloration issues.

    That’s good to know.

Maybe the current situation has made me a little paranoid! Yellowing ABS is hardly important in the grand scheme of things, but trying to carry on and keep some sort of normality seems the right course of action atm!

    Great armor, can't go wrong.

    Q. Most armor yellows over time unless coated with a UV polish or similar and even then you may get some yellowing. That said if it's away from direct sunlight you should be ok for a long time.

Thanks for that, yeah I’m currently repainting my GF lid which unfortunately yellowed, even though it had been out of direct sunlight. I had an AT-AT lid which also yellowed at an alarming rate, so I think it’s down to certain batches that sellers use. RS state that the PVC is UV stable, but unfortunately they don’t seen to be offering this in their sale, only the ABS.

I know the ABS is the screen accurate off white, just don’t want to find it going ‘off’ in the next couple of years.

I know a lot of members here will have the RS ABS version, am hoping they can chime in so I can push the button!

  3. Was thinking of taking advantage of the RS armour discounts.

At present they only have the ABS in stock for the sale- would have preferred the PVC but this doesn’t appear to be included in the offer (or is currently sold out).

Question is, does the RS ABS armour yellow over time, or has anyone had experience of this happening to theirs?

Plan is to display it and not troop, so wouldn’t be outdoors.

Hi, some recomendtions I have seen is to use Bleach, Apply to the silicone . Allow the bleach to sit for 15-20 minutes. This will cause a whitening of the yellowed silicone and will kill any mold or mildew that may have formed. scrub with a plastic scrub brush and rinse with cold water.

    Hope this can help.

    :salute:

That’s great, thanks. I actually considered that, but wasn’t sure what it would do to the silicon (it’s difficult to test it on a small area when you don’t have much surface to play with).

Think I’ll try it and hope for the best.

  5. Quick question re: some silicon handguards.

Finally found these after a clear out- been stored with some other bits. Getting them out, discovered they had yellowed. Strange considering they’d been stored away from light.

So is there any way of getting these back to white (presume paint won’t stick to silicon), or do I just throw them? Also is there a general consensus on which glue actually works with silicon?

    Sorry to hear Ferg,

My transaction went smoothly. I ordered the boots on day 1 of their online store opening in March and then received them about a month later. I had the email notifications for receipt of order, processing, and shipping as well.

If you've gone through PayPal and have followed all of their rules wrt a transaction dispute, it should work itself out in the end......it just sucks that you don't get your product and all the time you burn.

Yeah, dealt with them once before and the whole process went really smoothly.

This time, ordered a pair of Hoth boots, which looked really great, so would be a downer if I don’t get them (not concerned about the PayPal situation- guaranteed to get the money back, but it’s the boots I wanted).

Their radio silence doesn’t make sense.

  7. Like the title says, anyone had problems with IB?

I’ve dealt with Imperial Boots once before- system seems very good, ordered a couple of items, and no problems.

This time, however, everything seems to have gone wrong!

Ordered on 9th March, and after waiting without any updates (my order status says still in production stage), contacted them a couple of times. First got a belated email saying we’ve upgraded to express shipping and we’ll send you a tracking #. Never got the update, contacted them again, no # update and excuse saying shipping updates are running slow.

Waited another couple of weeks and decided to open PayPal dispute, thinking this would move things along. Nope, several days later, no contact via PayPal either.

So anyone know what’s going on?

  8. Got an email from the guy saying he's working 14 hours a day as he's been swamped with orders, so may take a while.

Don't think there's anything to worry about, the optimist in me says he's created a decent product that people are buying, and at least he's been quick to update me on the situation, so we will see...

Bought via PayPal so no worries.

Will update when I get the goods.

  9. Sorry for the misunderstanding, Ferg. My blaster isn't from the seller you were originally talking about. It's from a guy called Heston (Heston 3D Solutions on Etsy) and he's based in the US. I just wanted to give you another option for an F-11D as I got it from the US to the UK with no problems.

In regards to the shipping forwarding service, Heston sent the blaster to the shipping forwarding company in the US and they then sent it to me in the UK and took full responsibility for it and anything that have may gone wrong with it. He told me that he couldn't ship to the UK himself as he has had problems with the customs process with sending his blasters to the UK in the past, but that I was welcome to use a shipping forwarding service.

Definitely an option for getting yourself a great quality blaster to the UK. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info., definately helps if there's a system that can get around the UK's inconsistant customs laws!

I've gone ahead and ordered one of the Etsy blasters I linked in my first posts. He has a FB page which all seems very positive.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out, and I'll post something when it arrives- it could be a good option for buyers in the UK.

Just gotta wait for my Anovos TFA kit to arrive, now!

  10. I used a shipping forwarding service to get mine to the UK from Heston here on FISD. It got past customs just fine, but it did arrive with the scope snapped off.

Fortunately Heston is a great guy, he offered to send me a replacement blaster or a partial refund if I wanted to make the repairs myself.

His blaster also now comes with the electronics installed which I'm gutted I missed out on! He's definitely worth checking out mate.

Here's some snaps of my blaster:2672697a0785e829fc791e59ae3df17d.jpg

I'm probably being a little slow here, but what's the process for using the forwarding services?

It does seem a little strange that there's so little feedback on the Etsy version, it does look pretty nice, and the removable stock is definitely a bonus, for me. It does look like a nice piece, and being in Europe would definitely solve a few potential shipping problems. I remember getting very nervous when I kept checking the shipping status of 2 Blade Runner blasters I had ordered from Japan.

  11. Since options for getting hold of a F-11D in the UK are limited when compared to E-11s, I was looking round the net and found a nice looking printed one on Etsy (never used Etsy before, so not even sure how this works either, is it just a marketplace?), from the Netherlands, so great for UK buyers.
Question is, does anyone have any experience of this kit, is the seller a member here?
Would really like to get more information on this before I go ahead and press buy.

  12. The shipping costs we paid Anovos are totally separate from the bills that are coming through.

Customs charges are fully expected, so it's no surprise that you'll get stung when you import goods from outside the EU.

In the good old days, getting charged was very much luck of the draw- I bought many items from the States and never got a bill.

Now that global shipping is common place, virtually nothing gets through without some sort of charge.

The usual routine for collecting import/customs charges, however, is different in this instance. Normally goods would be kept by the shipping company until the bill had been settled. FedEx seem to be doing it the other way around. What do they do if you refuse to pay? Come round your house and take the package from you?

My problem, as mentioned previously, is the charges vary from one buyer to another. Same item, same cost, same supplier, surely the charges should be consistent across the board?

  13. I don't remember seeing anything about import costs when my BBB got delivered. Also the FedEx delivery costs seems to be less than what we were charged by Anovos?

Bill came later, box was delivered 10 days ago and the bill for import costs came through the post today.

Can't say how much you'll get stung for as the costs seem to random for different people (for some strange reason).

  14. FedEx bills are coming through to UK buyers. Got mine today and got stung for £92 ($130), so not looking quite the bargain that our US cousins got.
What really upsets me is the fact the import costs seem almost random, I've seen some others' bills for £72, some for £86.
Not quite sure of the logic behind it.

  15. I think the reason there's more disgruntled customers now is that RS's name has filtered in to the mainstream, and as a result they've taken on more and more orders and got seriously backlogged.
If you aren't aware of the Biker Scout helmet saga, check out the thread over at Bikerscout.net. There are some very upset people who've been waiting a looooong time with minimal communication.

  16. I think it would make it worse. The acrylic capping is like a glass coating so any drilling on the edges will crack when the plastic is flexed. From my standpoint, I don't see the attraction of adding the brackets to this plastic. It's too nice and clean to try and make it look authentic. Personally I would stick to snaps and elastic straps inside and keep the squeaky clean look of an idealised Stormtrooper. Leave the brackets for a hard core ANH replica in 1.5mm gloss ABS.

This is really interesting stuff, just goes to show there's a lot of variables when it comes to choosing what to go for with armour.

You learn something new every day.

  17. I was just in the process of putting together my new 2mm ABS armour using the screen accurate bracket system. I've put armour together before, but always gone down the snap route.

So then I read, that brackets on 2mm armour is not a good idea as it will crack, where the holes are drilled. In fact, it's the thinner more flexible 1-1.5mm stuff that's best as it flexes more (thought exactly the opposite would be the case).

Have other members successfully used brackets on 2mm ABS, and if so, how has it held up when trooping?

  18. Yep, Dremel with a steel circular saw disc for doing all the trimming. Cuts through quickly like a knife through butter, and only needs a quick rub with some medium sandpaper to get rid of rough parts.
You can get a really straight line if you mark it with a pencil, first.

  19. Hey Ferg

I spent a long time looking around for the best deal on E6000

I ended up going with Amazon, I figured if there was anything wrong with it, I preferred there return policy.

I have been getting a lot of those "breaks" as well, no idea why, most likely this message is going to have some.

Thanks Art, did a bit more reading and apparently (according to the source), there is loads of fake E6000 out there, especially on Ebay (there are the large tubes of it going for £1.20???), so it's good to get a heads up on a reliable source.

There are loads of sellers of E6000 on Amazon, which one was it inparticular? Don't mind paying a bit more for the genuine stuff.

Lots of break symbols on other members posts as well, something to do with the new server?

  20. Looking around for the best deal on some new E6000 (in the UK), I came across people who had bought some only to find it was fake!

Their description of the consistency sounded very similair to mine. Could I have ended up with some fake glue, I wonder?

How long should this stuff be good for, both opened and unopened?
