Splash Damage Posted August 24, 2011 Report Share Posted August 24, 2011 Just curious if anybody has ever tried to use rare earth magnets to connect armor together in certain areas or used them in place of some snaps? I just received some magnets for using as clamps and they're freaking strong almost harder to get apart than a snap. Seems like an interesting idea to me. The trouble you run into is that the shear strength (sliding them off each other) isn't nearly as good as the pull force. So they are much easier to take apart than you might think when used for armor. I used 8 7 pound magnets in the back of my shins. If I flex my leg it pops right apart with no real resistance.
