I searched the forum and couldn't find any threads on this....my question is can you qualify for Elite status if you have shims on your thigh pieces? Thanks.
-
I am thankful to have found this group, that's for sure. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

My armor will definitely be done within a few months. I don't have kids, but I might borrow a couple from my neighbor just to go trick-or-treating with next year. Can't wait to get out in public suited up! Thanks for sharing all your Halloween photos everyone.

Congrats!! I am jealous.....

Nice job!!!! I hope to be following in your footsteps soon....

Wow, Excellent job!! Very inspiring for those of still working on our armor.

To add to my filmscore comment, some of my favorite composers are: Bernard Hermann, Hans Zimmer, John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith, Maurice Jarre, Jan Hammer (can't get enough of his Miami Vice work), James Newton Howard, Mark Isham, and Thomas Newman. They've done so many scores I like, the list would be too long! If I could also name a few other movies, I would list The Fifth Element, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Blade Runner, The Matrix 1,2, 3, American Beauty, Dracula, Donnie Darko, Planet of the Apes, and many more I know I am forgetting to list here...

Film Scores, Industrial, EBM, New wave, electronic, alternative.
To name a few bands:
Depeche Mode
New Order
Cocteau Twins
311
APB
NIN
VNV Nation
Apoptygma Berzerk
And One
Feindflug
Icon of Coil
And a million others.....
Aside from that stuff I'll also listen to 30s and 40s music, Sinatra, you name it.

I am in the same boat. It's amazing what details are overlooked until you actually start building your armor and realizing all the little things that are part of it that you don't even notice as a general observer.
Don't feel bad Kevin - it's not like any of us knew this stuff out of the womb either. -
Welcome! I am still putting my armor together, but hope to see you at some NJ events in the future.

Hi everyone-Since I want to conform to the ANH requirements, I don't want to use rivets on my shoulder straps. Any suggestions how to attach them? Thanks!

Haha, sorry Daetrin, they are size 8 mens. And I'm keepin' em!
Thanks for the pointers guys. Much appreciated as always.
If they are size 11 mens, you can simply sell them to me. I'll pay top $$.Wyatt - MC's are actually patent leather so using saddle soap or shoe polish may actually be detrimental to the finish.
If you insist on keeping them or they are another size, I also tried white vinegar which did pretty good. You can also Google for "clean white patent leather", which has some other tips.
My MC's also yellowed and I'm using them for my TD so it's not too bad.

Hi everyone-I bought white patent leather boots from Mark Cheng like 7 years ago. I guess from sitting in their cardboard shoebox they are turning yellow. Any recommendations as to what to do? I was guessing just the white shoe polish you put on with a sponge, but then they won't look like patent leather anymore. I also had a question if they should be shiny or dull. I am hoping to eventually mod my armor so it's ANH specific, so any help on the boots would be great, thanks!

OK thanks guys~
Yours are not defective. The right thigh is smaller than the left. Just take a look at one of the threads about shimming and you should be all set. -
I did a test fit today on my thigh pieces. The left fits like a glove, very nicely. But the right seems about an inch smaller in diameter and I can't even get it around my thigh without much discomfort. Not only is it smaller but also very flat on the inner thigh, compared to the roundness of the left one. Either I got a defective piece or this is the way to older thighs were made (my kit is about 7 years old) Any suggestions from anyone on what to do? I notice the newer thigh pieces on the FX also have a revised cutout behind the knee and are larger. Can I buy just new thigh pieces from FX? Thanks for your input.

Wow, gorgeous pics. Great job!

Hi! I will definitely be checking out the 501st.... Thanks for all the warm welcomes~

Thanks-that makes sense!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask if there's any disadvantages to gluing both seams of the forearm, and bicep pieces? My hands and wrists are small and fit through fine without the need for velcro, so I thought I could use glue instead. But just wondering if that's a bad idea or a good one?
Thanks~

Yes, I have been going NUTS! I have been looking at the 501st website for years and am very excited to finally be able to join once my suit is complete. Can't wait to get involved.

Hi everyone! So after 7 years of my FX armour sitting in a box, I am FINALLY ready to start the project. Besides moving, changing jobs and a number of other excuses, I've been afraid to start it because I don't want to mess it up. But now that I've found this forum and Dave's Garage videos, I am confident enough to start. I look forward to spending time with other fellow troopers! Cheers-Darlene
