  1. Greetings Jacob! I know you've already been here for about a month, but I thought I'd reach out to say hi and also ask you where in Tennessee you are located. I am technically right across the state line from Chattanooga, in Georgia, but once my TK build is finished I suspect I will do a lot of trooping with the Midsouth (TN) garrison, and more specifically the Mos Nooga Squad. Depending on where you are, perhaps we'll meet someday!

Hello!! Chattanooga is a few hours out from me. I live up in the eastern most corner of TN near Bristol, but if you’re ever up my way perhaps we will meet one day. It’s looking like I’ll actually join up with Garrison Tyrannus in VA, the group of guys I’ve met up here are two members short of starting a new squad. If I can finish up my Vader fast enough I may get to be a founding member!!

  2. Ultimately the decision will be up to your GML (garrison membership liaison) who makes judgement on costume approvals.

There have been some really nice detailed build threads on converting the Black Series helmet but unfortunately many are now missing their photos, but the text is still there with info of what has been modified:

Have a look through the R1 reference gallery for comparisons between the Black Series helmet and those used on set here

This will be super helpful. I’ve found a couple of those threads already but the ones with the pictures in tact had escaped me. Thanks

  3. So it does seem the Black Series helmet is still acceptable if modded correctly. Reason I ask about that specifically is because on the CRL it states:

“Many commercially available helmets or those considered disproportionate in size or shape are ineligible.”

I assumed this meant the Black Series but I could’ve been mistaken. I feel like that may be the easier way to go since most of the recessed edges are already started, you basically just have to cut them out, maneuver some pieces around and fill in some holes. Thanks, this’ll come in handy when I begin!!

  4. Thank you all for the kind and helpful words...I haven’t started a WIP thread yet because well...I’ve not started any work yet!! But in my research I’ve definitely narrowed down my project to an 850 Armor Works R1 TK. I’ve been in contact with them and they claim the kit is made for bigger dudes such as myself (around 6’3”, 250 lbs) and it seems like a great deal. My problem here is that I can’t find a bucket suitable for a R1 TK.

    Two questions to pose here.

    1. Is modifying the Black Series trooper helmet still a viable option?
    2. I’ve found an Etsy shop called headshotprops, link below, and I feel like this is the easier route but, how would one go about filing out the lines on the traps and tears? Since they’re not already part of the mold, I feel it’s gonna be a complicated process, or maybe I’m making this harder than it needs to be.

    Any help is appreciated!!

  5. Hello all!! I’m currently in progress of assembling my ESB Vader over on the SLD, but I figured I had better have a back up costume for the 8-9 months of Tennessee heat. Two layers of wool and leather could get pretty warm...

All that to say, I’m here to read up on some WIP threads and get a feel for how to build a TK. I’d really like to do a Rogue One TK when the time comes and from what I’ve seen from lurking, I think I’d like to go with an 850 Armor Works kit, or maybe ANH Kit from RSpropmasters. Thanks for having me!!
