  1. I've looked around and cant find the answer in my search, so here goes.

I'm looking at ANH Hero as my build.

I have been reading that the bubble lenses setup can make vision a bit tricky.

I personally think the bubble option looks the best, however the bubble vision strikes me as annoying at the very least.

    1.  Can ANH Hero be approved with flat lenses?

    2.  Is there a bubble lens option without visual issues??

Ty for all the help and feedback this far!!

Thank you!  I actually reviewed the FOTK CRLs, and turns out they're not nearly as complicated different as I thought, so I'm working on a spreadsheet for those as well.  I'm going to add Phasma as well, because other than chroming and a handful of details, she's actually quite similar to TFA (no TLJ Phasma CRL yet, I'll add that once it's live).  I'm working on TFA Phasma, so I have vested interested in that one.

I think it was decided it would be best to add to Getting Started, and so I will create a thread there shortly.

Perhaps a thread dedicated to the spreadsheet ?

    Hello Mike,

Feel free to contact me directly here or over on the GLG forums if you have any specific questions. It also looks like there might be an armor party or two over on your side of the state this fall. Keep an eye out on the GLG forums for that information. Good luck with your build!

Awesome!  I'm registered there as well and submitted a "hello" thread not too long ago.  Hoping to join the garrison and get out to some events someday!

    Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!  You the man!

Great reference I will be saving and printing!

Heck...I may try n add some visual references as well.

Ty sir!  Above and beyond seems to be the theme of this group!

The plan was to get you towards ESB!

Lol.  I've been swayed from ROTJ...

    So dont get cocky!

Jk.  I've made my decision based on all the amazing and (other than YOU) unbiased information here!!

You guys are great.  If this is the level of help I get on a basic inquiry...I can only imagine the amount of help once I start building!!!!

    Ty all

I can help you with the differences between ANH and ESB (but don't ask me the difference between ANH Stunt and Hero, because I still don't really know):

These are based on Centurion, because that's what I did, rather than basic to basic, and my knowledge of ANH is primarily Hero:

    Helmet:

ESB frown is black, ANH is gray

ESB tears, tube stripes, etc., are decals, and not hand-painted look decals, specific ESB details for color/type, the blue on the tube stripes is specific ESB Blue; ANH is hand-painted or hand-painted look decals (the rank bars on the ears are painted on both because there aren't decals for those)

ESB Tube stripes should be 13 per side, but 9 - 16 is acceptable, ANH has 11 - 13 per side, but 9 - 16 is also acceptable.

ESB lenses can be green or gray (smoke), and are flat; ANH are green or gray (smoke), and can be flat or bubbled- I do know bubble only for EIB Hero (someone chime in who knows more re Hero/Stunt for details)

ESB has 2 - 3 ear bumps (rank stripes) in black, ANH has one

ESB has 6 - 8 teeth cut out of the frown, ANH has six.

    Armor:

ESB hand guards are the same as Snowie (Snowtrooper) hand guards, commonly called "clamshell", ANH are triangular.  ESB can be attached with an elastic strip around the palm over rubber chemical gloves, or via a five point star pattern sewn onto black satin gloves.  ANH are either hard plastic attached with elastic or flexible latex stuck directly to the glove.

    Misc:

ESB holster is solid black, loops around the belt and is worn on the right, ANH is black and tan, riveted onto the belt, and worn on the left

ESB E-11 is "paired down" compared to ANH, it lacks an ammo counter most noticeably.  There's two versions of ESB, promo and regular, to be honest I'm not familiar with the differences.

As to ROTJ... the boot soles are white, the kidney and butt plate are one piece (not separate like ANH and ESB), they wear Snowie/ESB handguards, and I think there's a trim on the chest and back plates, and maybe the ab, too.  That's the limit of my knowledge on that.

I tell my new handlers the easy way to tell my TK apart from the others at at event is to look for a black frown.  But is is surprising how quickly you can tell each other apart even in armor.  Once all variations looked the same, now they're glaringly different, once every TK at an event looked just about the same, then suddenly they were obviously the individuals wearing the armor.

Man that's awesome!!!! I'm probably gonna print it.  More and more I'm pushing away from ROTJ and Migrating towards ANH now!!!

This forum rocks! Lots of great info!!!

Sorry, Im struggling to understand which trooper your talking about. there is nothing in the CRL that talks about "Security Trooper". what movie are you talking about. The Stormtroopers on Tatooine were sandtroopers. Could you maybe explain a little? There are the same type of Trooper on Jedha that are Sandtroopers but "clean"

"These aren't the droids you are looking for"  as kids we called those the "security troopers"  sorry for the confusion.

    Hiya.

I think most armour kits are ABS these days. If you want a really shiny one, have a look at the “acrylic capped” versions that many makers offer. The originals were closer to the standard ABS, as in a slightly milky white, but you might find a mix of standard and capped at troops.

Here’s an example of standard (left) vs acrylic capped (right). These are both kits from the same armour maker.

When you say “ANH security troopers”, do you mean sand troopers? :-)

Wow.  Very cool side by side!  Ty!

Security troopers I was referring to were basically the tattooine troopers.  But i like them for their "security" role.  I dont want to try the weathered sand trooper look.  White is what I'm learning towards.

Both of your examples look right in line with that.

  9. Great.....post all 3 side by side.....

Not helping!!!  They all look sweet!

I definitely think ABS is the way to go.....I also want a very white and shiny armor.  I'd like to stay away from anything weathered or off white.

ANH security troopers would kinda link up nice to my current occupation,  but I'm not sure those guys were bright white, and I'm not sold on the leather shoulder piece several had.

    Thoughts??

So if you go to the area where you fill out the application, there is a section that you can view the available TKID numbers that there are. The Legion asks that you submit 5 choices in order to have options when it comes time to approve. So when time is close, look at that and go, I was able to get my first pick.

    Perfect!!!!  That will do nicely!

Welcome to FISD and I just want to clarify that you don`t have to build a costume on your own to be a member of the 501st, plenty get commission builds:duim:

However building it yourself is a very rewarding experience that I would recommend you to do and everyone here is ready to assist you every step of the way:salute:

I'm not very stocky.... 34 waist, but the beer gut/dad bod is showing a bit.  Lol

  13. 1 hour ago, Commander Gree said:

Would you say your "stocky"? If so,  I would have to recommend AM armor, his stuff is built for bigger troopers, and fits amazing. I am 6 1 at 215 and I love the way his kit fits me! Great communications, and awesome product. as far as the how you get your number deal. you must:

1> Build and complete an approved costume as per the standards of the 501st CRL

2> Submit an application to the 501st along with photos of you in your kit to you GML (GML determines approval)

    3>sit and wait lol

4>receive an email for the GML about being approved and receiving your TKID

that last one can sometimes take a while depending on the size of you garrison. My best advise for you right now, even though you aren't settled on a costume (ROTJ is great, please don't let the fact that its not common scare you off if it), is to find out who your GML is and start getting to know them. This way once your costume starts coming together, you can have easy communications with the GML and they can walk you through any issues they may see coming. The people on here are absolutely amazing, and a great resource. BUT, at the end of the day the GML is the one that tells you your good to go or not.

*side note: If your worried about the small amount of troopers that have done ROTJ, don't let that scare you, I just submitted my Swamp Trooper costume and there are only 9 approved in the entire legion, ill be #10

I like being somewhat unique, so that leads me to ROTJ, but other aesthetic points may take me elsewhere.

I'm hoping once I'm ready for approval I can possibly choose my TK# from a list of unregistered TK numbers.  If not I'll survive.

I am already a member of my local garrison forum.  They pointed me here for my build.  I'm looking forward to getting to know them and fellow troopers in my area and all over.
