Hello all, I've been reading around the forums on armour and I'm getting a little bogged down with facts so any advice on what to buy would be appreciated.

 

I am 5'9'' and weigh about 161 lbs, average build. And was thinking about buying some FX armour when I noticed that most people consider other armours an upgrade (no offence to anyone with FX) But I do not have enough money to buy two sets.

 

The two sets I was deciding between were TE2 and AP.

 

I was wondering which one of these sets would be best for the following:

 

Which one is more durable? I'm paranoid of spending this much on something that might easily break.

Which one is best for joining the 501st with the least modifications?

Which one is best for my size?

And most importantly, price?

I was exactly like you, 4 months ago - keen to get a suit, hopeful to join the 501st and not much info to make a decision.

 

Now, I'm a qualified TK, about to do my very first troop in a week! It's a big buzz, I can tell you!

 

I picked AP armour as i'm 5'8" tall. I have a build thread on here you can see. It was tricky but not impossible.

 

I would suggest you choose according to your size, before anything else, as you don't want to buy one and realise you can't get it to fit you!

 

Also - if you need to get hold of parts and advice, just ask someone on here - information is freely available and friendship is assured. Bargains too. I've bought a few items and as a result my TK is super accurate.

 

Enjoy the challenge, take time and care, and you'll be a TK in no time!

Hello everyone, I'm a student currently studying Physics in my second year.

 

Recently I decided that I'd like to save up and treat myself to something, so after writing a list I chose to buy some storm trooper armour, something I've wanted to do ever since I first saw the movies.

 

I'm afraid that I'm a complete newbie at all this, but I'm willing to put in a lot of effort to get a good looking costume, maybe even joining the 501st if I'm lucky. I know that outright asking where/how to buy armour is generally frowned upon but there were a few questions I wanted to ask.

 

What's the best type of armour to buy? I've heard of Ruby, FX and custom made stuff. Whilst I've no doubt that custom made probably looks the best and fits better I do not have the resources to make something like that, what I am really looking for is a good set of armour that I can add to and customise.

 

Roughly how much should I be looking to save up? To begin with all I want is the armour but I will most likely move onto extras such as thermal detonators.

 

And lastly, what's the best piece of advice you can give that you wish you knew when you first started?

 

Sorry if I'm asking a lot, like I said I'm a complete newbie but I'm willing to learn.
