    Thanks you all for your support.  I am attending an event with a local squad (Inland Empire) tomorrow for a meet and greet.  And then I am attending 2 armor parties ( Los Angeles and Orange County) on Saturday and Sunday in the Southern California Garrison.  After this weekend, I should be able to make an informed and important decision on armor.  Thank you again for all your support, so that I didn't make an important mistake.

    As a non-handy person I had the same fears as you.

     

    I can't build something like this.

     

    It'll look s***

     

    It's too complicated8

     

    Etc etc.

     

    Thing is if you buy a kit from one of the many on offer, there'll be help and guiding advice every step of the way. Have a look at the many WIPs on here to see what I mean.

     

    I've not made anything like this before, but I've done it (even if I DID want to quit at one point....)

     

    But I didn't. And you won't either. Trust me bud, the sense of achievement is awesome. I'm just waiting for my boots and I'll (hopefully) be ready for clearance.

    Thanks Steve for the vote of confidence.  The more I am on here, the more I realized I could have made a major mistake on purchasing armor.  Lots of info from lots of people, yet it has been great advice from friendly people, who I haven't even met.  This tells me what a great choice I have made to try to join the 501st.

    You could buy two Walt's Trooper Factory kits for this much $, almost 3 ANOVOS kits, pretty much any of the vetted makers kits.

     

    If you really want to throw money at it here's an idea. Buy two Walt's kits. Send them to me with your sizes. I'll build you one and send it to you. I'll keep the other as payment! <---this is a joke and so is that eBay kit.

     

    Your local Garrison will help you build whatever kit you buy if you don't feel you can tackle it yourself. They most likely will even share any tools at an armor party if you don't have them.

    $1,250 + tax?  For a newbie who is very much the opposite of handy.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I have read many threads about staying away from Ebay.

    The Imperial Stormtrooper:

     

    One of the most iconic characters in cinematic history, and was an instant classic in 1977 when they blasted onto the silver screen.  Forty years later, it's still one of the most easily recognizable icons of the modern era of sci-fi. 

     

    With Rogue One:  A Star Wars Story coming out this December, this style of Stormtrooper costume will look impressive, most impressive for the premiere of this tie-in to A New Hope.  

     

    2017 will mark the 40th anniversary of A New Hope, which, as noted, this costume is detailed to be screen-accurate for.  This costume will be perfect for any celebration of the 40th anniversary.

    ANOVOS is a good kit and LFL approved but most of the other kits are around the same price, give or take. I am partial to Walt's Trooper Factory TK kit. It's what I own and built. Not that it's any better than other kits, all the vetted vendors kits are awesome. Walt and his team are fantastic and the community that has sprung up around his armor are very supportive and kind. He is also a vetted vendor. You can find Walt's Trooper Factory on Facebook. Wait time is about 6 weeks from payment to Big Brown Box Day too. But ultimately it's up to your preference.     Hi All,

    I have just finished reading through all 48 pages of this thread, and the getting started threads, and introduced myself.  I live in SoCal and am looking to do my first build.  I am budgeting $1,000 to $1,500, which seems about right from what I have been reading.  I have looked at a couple of websites, Anovos and RS Propmasters, both of which are vetted vendors.

    I was at Disneyland a couple days ago, and saw a fully completed kit, minus boots and a blaster for about $1,800.  And then they told me that they are supplied by Anovos.  Anovos seems to have a good kit for $650, but they said I would need to do the assembly.  I am not that handy as a single Dad to 3 children (which 1 is very crafty), and I have friends that are handy/crafty.

    I am 5'7" about 165 pounds, with a slight beer gut.

    I am looking to at first getting to the basic approval guidelines, and eventually to obtain the next level.

    Any recommendations?

    My name is Sean and I live out in the Inland Empire in Southern California.  I have loved Star Wars since I saw Episode 4, at the age of 6, at a drive-in theater (we don't seem to have many of these anymore, and I just dated myself).  I also have the love for Disney, and was happy when both companies merged.  I remember first beginning to fall in love with anything Star Wars, while playing with my action figures.  I eventually worked at Disneyland on the original Star Tours attraction, and my love for Star Wars grew even more in the 90's.  And as of late, my 3 children are also following in my love of Star Wars.

    I love that I might eventually be able to give back to the community, as I did while I worked at Disney and other employers, but while enjoying Star Wars with other similar loving people.

    I am just now beginning my research on building a costume, though I am a single dad who is not crafty (luckily I have friends and children that are), and looking to budget about $1,000 to $1,500 to start.

    I have read many of the threads so far, and it seems I am lucky to have found a group that I can increase my knowledge with and have fun at the same time.

     

    Looking forward to some great future memories and meeting some nice people,
