  1. Hey Mark, I'm in the process of building my armour at the minute (although I'm not as good at the updates as Dan...) and I was terrified of messing up as I have never done anything even remotely like this or even really used much more than a screwdriver and an allen key but it's really not as hard as you'd think. The scariest bit to me when I was thinking about building my own was the helmet, so I had that built for me but now I've been working on the kit I feel like I'd have definitely been fine doing the helmet myself. If you do your research and read other peoples build threads you'll find yourself naturally kinda knowing what to do and the community on here and the UKG are great if you have any questions and if there is anyone near you, I'm sure they'd be happy to help at any point with the build.

Even starting with absolutely no skills, I have found myself having a great time while working on my armour and am so glad I didn't order a ready built set. I understand why getting it built is so appealing when you're worried about messing it up though and feel free to message me if you wanted to chat about it some more.

Good luck with whatever route you do choose :smiley-sw013:

  2. So I had a pretty busy bank holiday last weekend trimming my armour and I've now got most of it mostly done, I've got a little tidying to do on some pieces and then some fine sanding before fitting. I did cheat a little and grab Wilko's own version of a Dremel to get rid of most of the material as using the scissors with this 2mm armour was killing me.

I reduced the padding in my helmet after some advice from an armourer and it still fits snugly while allowing better air circulation.

This weekend, I did some work on a few of the smaller bits so I've now cut the 15mm deep drop boxes, painted my ab buttons and made the TD, I've just got to put the clips on now.

Here's a picture of me all taped up with the thighs on, as I was a little worried that they are too long for my thighs, as you can see my knees are completely behind the armour piece itself and that's as high as I can get the ab/cod. My armourers have said to carry on with the kit so we can see it with my shins and ab on properly but any advice for the future for this would be greatly appreciated.

I've also ordered everything else apart from my blaster so that should all start arriving soon. :smiley-sw013:

  3. Hi all, this will be pretty much copied directly over from my post in the UKG but I thought I'd share over here as well to get feedback on my build or even help someone else with it.

So today my BBB turned up from Ross and I felt that child-like excitement! I went with the 2mm ABS and had Ross build my lid for me as I was not confident in painting it at all and I feel it would have held me back a lot. I already know I want a hero helmet to sit next to it though so I'll be grabbing a kit for that at some point to build myself, no way am I missing out on the helmet building experience completely. :smiley-sw013:

So far I've got my armour kit and Sondico undersuit and I'll be ordering the rest of what I need next week, so it looks like I'll be spending my three day weekend trimming my armour with my trusty lexan scissors.

I spent a little time tonight rough trimming some stuff and removing return edges on the belt bit etc. to get used to using the scissors a bit. I also dry fit (with masking tape) the padding for my lid. It turns out I have a large head so wasn't able to pad it as much as I'd have originally liked but I'm happy with how this fits and feels so I'll get the velcro tabs out tomorrow to properly fit them.

I'm also pretty sure this is my first ever selfie... Images to follow.

Read again, there's also RS!  though yes they are both a bit more money.  However the reality is once you factor in all the other costs the armour cost difference isn't the biggest issue in hind sight.

Also I don't think a single person troops a de-ac but I may be wrong.  They are heavy, and I am certain there will be troops that want nothing to do with one.  A resin or rubber replica is what everyone I've trooped with uses.

Sorry Chris, I did mention in my original post that I'd looked at RS but decided against them as I'm not a fan of the bumpy top cap of the helmet (unless I've accidentally mixed that up with another).

As for the blaster, I think I'd like to go resin at the minute, but I'm currently looking into blasters so that may change depending on what I find out.

  5. Hi Sarah,

thanks for the information, I'll be sure to start a build thread when I start getting my bits. I'd love to do a proper Sterling conversion but I don't think I can stretch my budget to one of those.

    Chris,

The only other UK maker of ANH armour I could see on the vetted makers list was troopermaster and I've seen his name pop up so much while researching, I kind of just made the assumption his kits would be out of my price range and have an insane wait time one them but I'll send him a message just to check now I've thought about it.

I have applied to join the UK Garrison but I'm still waiting to be approved, so I'll be sure to make a post on there once I have been approved and can get to the forums.

  6. Hi, so I've been delving into some research on and off for almost the past year now and I've finally decided I'm just going to dive in and start my first TK in a few months, once I've saved the money and decided what I want.

I've got a few things I wanted to ask about and any help or leads to search would be greatly appreciated.

So I'm thinking of going for a helmet and armour kit from either RWA Creations or DA Props at the minute, which I've found through the forums here and they seem well priced and are UK based. If I could get some opinions on each of their armour, and plastics to go for as they both offer 1.5mm, 2mm and 2mm capped ABS. I think I want the shiny capped ABS but I'm a little worried about how this will pick up marks and break compared to the 2mm standard ABS. I did look at an RS kit but I'm a little put off by the top cap of their helmets. If anyone else knows of any others in the UK I should check out, that would also be great.

I am a little unsure where to go with an E-11 blaster too as I'd also like this to come from the UK and I think I want it to be made of pieces rather than one single solid piece but I'm open to hearing pros and cons of both these options and any leads again, would be appreciated. I'd also love a DLT-19 but I might save that for something to get after.

I'm also going to aim for Centurion right out of the box, so any extra advice relating to that would be sweet.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me out with this,

    Adam
