    Hello

Thanks so much, I've been talking ti a few suppliers and have also found a spectra chrome supplier in Norway. So making some headway there, might also be heading to the US in July and wondering if it isn't worth taking her with and getting it done there. If you don't mind me asking, what did you go with and how has the maintenance been on it?

Small update while I'm at it, been snowing so slow progress. Almost done with internal covering with plastidip and about 1/5 of the way with coating the outside with primer for 1st round of prep.

So I chromed mine myself with Angel Gilding. It’s basically spectra chrome just a do it at your home version. Super hard to get right and finicky and expensive. Spectra chrome is a great option if it’s near you! I wouldn’t bring it all the way out here for that. Cause who knows how long it’ll take for them to chrome it.

  2. Awesome!! Can’t wait to see another Captain in our ranks. So for the wrap idea. I talked to a lot of wrap companies when I was building mine in 2017 and they all said the same thing. It would work, but there would be seems in the wrap and also in the areas with a lot of indents and details it could very easily not work or mute the details a lot. The best ways to chrome are metallization, have a shop do a spray chrome or some method like that, or do it yourself with alclad with an airbrush. Not entirely sure if alclad is ok with TLJ tho due to it not being that perfect chrome but I’m sure for Lvl1 it would be acceptable. A GML can chime in on my comment for clarification

    Hey all,

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I am ready to have my phasma (Jim's) kit chromed but in packages the pieces for shipment I realized I am missing a piece. It is the front spat for the boots. Anyone know where I can get a replacement quickly or even have a 3d print file of this piece???? Help me WhiteArmor you're my only hope.

is it the actual spat you are missing or one of the boot pieces? Just wanting to make sure I've read correctly lol. Honestly if it didn't come with the kit I would message Jim about it and I am more than positive he'd be willing to help ya out.

Hi everyone, I'm excited to be starting a Phasma build, hopefully my first 501st costume! I have a good deal of costuming/prop making experience in the past but I took a break from the hobby for several years (moving, new job). I restarted a couple months ago after some more life changes, and after making an episode IX Rey costume I  went to Dragon Con last week. What a blast. It brought back my long time desire to cross over to the Dark Side, get out of my comfort zone, learn some new costuming skills and be as cool as my old 501st friends. Ironically I had also contemplated a Brienne of Tarth cosplay, so I guess I'm destined to dress up as Gwendoline Christie.

Mostly I've done sewing, leatherworking and worbla/craft foam type projects so this will be a big deal for me!

    My plan thus far:

    TLJ Phasma!

Kit - KB Props (ordered yesterday, and amazingly they were already making a phasma this week and said they could add it on and have it to me in a about a week lol...unreal)

Cape- bought from someone else on Fb group
    Belt/pouches - ??
    black bodysuit - already have
black ankle boots - already have (convenient!)
    black gloves - ??
    gaskets - looking into GeekyPink

baklava, neck seal - not sure yet
helmet - talking to Daniel Dirsten, also may buy used from someone else, not 100% sure yet

I know I can work right away on sanding and prepping my kit. I've never had to wetsand anything before but it looks fairly straightforward.

    Main questions at this point:

    - Chroming - from past experience with plastic cosplay armor, I really really hate repainting over and over and over from wear. I used to do a Saber cosplay (Fate/Stay Night) and went through so much chrome paint over the course of two years that it makes me want to look into professional chroming (i.e. by Muellercorp or someone local here in Iowa). How much more durable is it really going to be if I do that? Are you still having to ask them to re-chrome it after just a few wears? Or is it....permanent?

    - Strapping all this sh** together - this still confuses me. Some people are gluing pieces to shoes/gloves, other pieces snap on to some kind of base... I'm guessing this is something my local 501st group could help with since any stormtrooper costume is that regard. I dont know why this part concerns me so much haha.

Pics to come once the big brown box arrives!!!!

Can't wait to have another Phasma in the ranks!! Regarding your question on chroming and how durable all the methods are. Unfortunately there are pieces that will have to be redone at some point just because of wear and tear. Main areas that have been affected for my personally are the tops of the thighs, inside of the biceps, toe pieces, and the ab piece where the back and chest rub from when walking and all that. I have been trooping in my kit for 2 and a half years now and have around 90 troops without rechroming. And ya at this point its nearing trash compactor Phasma lol. I chromed mine with the Angel Gilding spray on chrome which is a decent method. Really reflective if done right but the tinting is the hard part. I'm going to be rechroming using the vac-metalizing method from a company like Mueller Corp or maybe someone local depending on prices.

Aclad chrome is great because its easy for you to touch up pieces while they wear and cheaper. Downside is that its not that chrome look you really want to go for, especially for TLJ Phasma.

If you have any questions at all feel free to ask!! There's a bunch of here with knowledge willing to help out in any way that we can! Can't wait to see your journey to becoming one of us!!

  5. It looks like theres tabs on the front of the ab to glue to the back parts of the ab. I would glue the back to those 2 tabs to that. Might take away the seem to almost nothing.

Can you slide on the ab either over the head or like pants? If you can then I wouldn't worry about having the line cut in the back to put on.

  6. Is there any way you can post a few pictures of the helmet? Curious to see how it looks because I have been digging around trying to find a more accurate helmet and couldn't for the life of me find a decent .stl file. As for the armor, there have been 2 makers that I have seen but not completely sure on the accuracy. Someone else on here put his link down in the 3d files section so I assume its pretty decent. He apparently made a Deathtrooper too or something I believe. Hope this helps!

  7. Btw the CRL for TFA the upper sabatons(the armor pieces on the boot) are pictured with incorrect placement. the top edge should go under the spats not on top of it. It always looking wrong to me but I just figured it out today. They were displayed wrong in the prop show.  Scenes in the TFA shows with it under but also showed with it slightly over. I think they are meant to be placed under like every other set of sabaton I have seen on every other suit of amor. I think that during shooting they had a tendency to pop out of placement because of the method of attachment. Its shown here slightly above and then below the spats. Lastly if you look at the visual dictionary for the force awakens, it shows the sabatons under the spats.

So that's my reasoning for why the spats have incorrect placement.

Hello! This was a debate at one point on the FB page that we have not sure of on here exactly. But the sabatons are supposed to go on top of the spats for TFA. The suit was thrown together in the last bit of filming because the character wasnt part of the script till the end(hence the minimal amount of screen time in TFA). That's why she also has the outer shins in TFA and not TLJ. They needed to make longer legs or something but didnt have time or some jazz. Who knows. The suit is even held together in some parts with alumin tape lol! But you do see them in the BTS shots with them over the spats as well. And when they set the suit up at Celebration they were that way as too.

Glad to see another Phasma in the works!! Cant wait to see it. Do you have a build thread already? Or on the FB group too? Just curious

  8. Righty! I wanted to ask about Anovos's Captain Phasma helmet, and it's screen accuracy in terms of shape- Not paint. I'm looking to build a TLJ Phasma set, and I haven't seen any really accurate Phasma Helmets as far as the overall shape- The closest being Anovos, from what I've found.

So, would purchasing the Anovos Captain Phasma helmet then repainting it be good enough to be approved?
Hello. Sorry for the late response I'm hardly on these boards lol. But the Anovos helmet is approveable as long as the chroming matches the entire armor kit. We have a few Phasmas with the helmet that are approved. I have the Jim helmet and got approved with it, others have the Thorsson helmet as well. Saw a few 3d printed ones out there as well. Good luck finding one!

  9. I'm getting my cape from Jessica this week! So stoked!

I'm a decent seamstress but there's no way I'd be able to knock that cape out on my own. It's a beast. And hers look amazing so I didn't have any problem getting one.

If you're nervous about the power tools, maybe give it a whirl on the inside of say, the back or chest piece? That's what I did, so I could get used to how it felt and how it moved.

Awesome! She was working on mine last week so hopefully soon thatll be here. Got the rubberized version too.

And its not necesarrily wary of the tool itself, ive sanded down car parts and stuff. But its the fiberglass. Dont have any experience with it and ibheard from someone you want to be super carefull with the front sanding and exposing the fibers. But seems like everyone on this thread says do it lol. So ill end up getting out the palm sander.

What did you do with the little dimples that were around the armor and helmet? Sand it down to smooth or put in a bondo/filler?

  10. Awesome! Glad to meet ya!

And yeah, Vince is right. Hand sanding gets old fast. Especially on the big pieces. Good lord. Hahaha

If you can, look up Jessica Bowyer-she's got Jim's Phasma and it's been metalized. It's amazing and she's still trimming and fixing it every time she wears it hahaha.

Glad to "meet" you to lol. And ya, ive talked to jessica a little. Shes actually doing my cape. Cause theres no way in heck thay i can sew lol. Im only a little cautious with palm sanding cause I'm afraid of doing too much. But seems like yours has been going great!

  11. I've got Jim's Phasma. I'm painting it so not sure about the metalizing. BUT word of caution. The kit is going to need a lot of prep-I've been working on it since July and just got done painting the black undercoat and there's a couple pieces where I can see where I didn't do a good enough job on them. I'd invest in a good electric palm sander. It'll save your hands and save you on time. I've seen a few vacuum metalized kits-not many. Most people don't have the budget for that so paint it is! Which has its own troubles. Are you on Facebook? If so, check out the Captain Phasma Costumers build page and Jim's build page. Great groups of people who can help and there's a few of the metalized kits in the Phasma page.

Ya Molly I'm part of that group. Calvin Mondragon. And I thought about the hand sander, I have a few. But for me at the moment I really like being able to just hand sand. I get a better feel with armor and with what I'm doing. But phase will probably pass lol. Jim's kit is absolutely amazing and so easy to work with. Very happy with it so far

  12. Since you have to Paint it start with 400 and just go bigger numbers till you are wet sanding with 2000. Phasma needs to be a mirror or it looks awful. If you are having it professionally chromed...just pay them to do the surface work.

I plan on having it vac-metalized. I didn't know that they would do the surface work. I should obviously do the bondo and get it all smooth tho right? and let them finish it from there?
