1. So, morphing this into a smaller event. It occurred to me that I could much more easily organize this with a flash mob of sorts. A couple of people with video cameras, one with a big 80's boom box, and the rest as confederate spectators. The key is figuring out an event justify her friends showing up as well. Her Birthday is Halloween, which would be great, but it's also the busiest TK time around here, so no go. Perhaps something in early November...

I could try to do it in a park, but a pub/music hall would be easier, AND they would have a sound system in place. Not the most romantic of locations though...more thought is required.

In any case, Monday was BBB day so I'm busy actually building for now. Once that is a bit further along, I'll circle back to this.

  5. Well it's finally here. And, of course, all the countless threads I studied on assembling my new armor completely leaked out of my ear. So, here come the questions!

I ended up getting AM 2.0 armor.

After about an hour of geeking out and setting the pieces up, I noticed that the calf piece knee angles are a bit strange. It seams to me that the lower inner/outer knee angles should be mirrored, but instead they're symmetrical.

Am I missing something, or is this one of those "screen accurate" oddities? Oh, and is there a left/right to the tricep armor? There seems to be a slightly curvier side to them. Thank you!!!

  6. Hey everyone! Does anyone know how LucasArts feels about video of TK events? I'm thinking of approaching my local Cable Access TV station about filming a community TK event (which I'll do this at), but want to know what is historically ok and what isn't. Thoughts? Thank you!

  7. Yes, that's the backup plan, though it would require I foot the bill (and I'm going to be pretty strapped for cash after all is said and done). I'm working with a couple of companies to see if this is something they're interested in taking on. But, if not I'm going to have to figure out some funding another way. Or at least how to get my hands on a bunch of cameras and some people to operate them without it looking like a shaky-cam.

  8. Hey everyone, I wanted to double check before buying. But AM armor can made TK / 501st compliant, right? It looks like it would be the best fit/fastest delivery for me. Also, when I say waist size I mean with clothes on after eating a big meal. I'm usually a 34" pants. Thank you!!!

  9. I also have a sound and video editor who I can get to edit the work. He loves a cross the country, but I may be able to fly him out to run the sound board on the day of.

As for the script, it's pretty well later out I think. I'll of course have one written up with the stage directions for participants later though. I figured that I would try to enlist her boss to call her into work on the day in question and chaperone her through the event. I also thought that I would have him give her an Ewok balloon as an apology for bringing her in. Incidentally, that will be the target we will match to as it will be above the crowd and easy to spot.

I'm also going to try reaching out to some local flash mob groups for day of extras. I'm figuring some of them would love to get involved in something like this.

  10. Awesome feedback. For the record though, I don't need to drive a car. My dream just happened to have that as the close. I do think it would be a great commercial, or more likely social media marketing campaign. I reached out to ANOVOS and am waiting to hear back. They seemed like a good fit for this type of idea. Though if anyone has any other thoughts on groups who this may interest, I'm all ears.
I've currently got four TK's who have said they would participate, as the date gets closer I can hopefully bring some more people in.
Excellent point with the microphones. I think it would be easy enough to put a lavolier mic on the end of a blaster or front helmet nub, to get her voice. I have to give this more thought.
Thank you again everyone!

  11. Yes, thank you! Including the local law enforcement is definitely in the check list. I figure it may require a permit, but I should probably line up the event first. I'm working on bringing on an attorney pro-bono to help with legal. But again, any and all help or contacts would be greatly appreciated!

  12. Hey guys! This thread is such an amazing resource, thank you! So, I'm working on a secret project: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38146-secret-plans/?p=509376#entry509376'>http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38146-secret-plans/?p=509376#entry509376)

I'm trying to find the right armor for my size, and I'll need to go to a knee (queue laughter). I'm 6' 200lbs in pretty good shape, so I'm not sure what the best size/fit would be. (Should I order bigger and trim back or not). Chest 43", Shoulders Front:17.5", Back:19.5", waist:38", arms: 26" Inseam:32.5", Low Hip:43.5". I'm thinking TM or AM might be the best fit, opinions? I need all the help I can get to pull my plan off. So if anyone can help out I'd be incredibly grateful! Thank you!!!

  13. Hi, I'm Fixer. I'm in Massachusetts and recently joined the 501st New England Garrison. I've been interested in joint the 501st for a long time and I'm excited to be here. However, I have a secret plan that I could use some help with...

In March of this year, I had an incredibly realistic dream. When the dream ended, I opened my eyes, and told myself that I would do everything in my power to make that dream a reality. This is that dream:

My girlfriend, Hilary, is by far the biggest Star Wars fanatic I have ever known. Growing up in South Dakota, the only diversions she had were running and Star Wars. Twenty years and a knee operation later, that list is now her cat, slightly less running, but mostly Star Wars.

She works close to a downtown Boston skyscraper with a large plaza in front. In my dream, while she’s at work, a rigging crew sets up for a car commercial in front of the plaza, mounting speakers and cameras around the courtyard. When everything is ready, a friend convinces her to come down and watch. They push their way through the crowd to the center of the square. Suddenly, over a number of loud speakers surrounding the area, the Imperial March begins to play as a squad of Stormtroopers emerge in pairs through the crowd. The spectators part before them and when until they come to Hilary the lead trooper points at her and says, “There she is, get her!” Quickly, the Stormtroopers spread out, leveling their blasters at her while the commander says, “Don’t Move!”

With their quarry subdued, the Imperials form up again and make an about-face, leading the prisoner away with one rearguard guiding her by the shoulder. As they begin to march away, the last Stormtrooper holds her back, separating her and from rest of the squad. The Spectators quickly fill in the space, making a human wall to screen her from the Imperials’ vision. Confused, she begins to recognize the people in front of her as her friends and family. Then the music fades into Princess Leia’s theme song, and the remaining Stormtrooper turns her around and takes off his helmet…

As I take off my helmet I look at her and say, “My name is Chris. I’m here to rescue you!” While she looks at me bewildered and smiling, I go down on one knee pull out a ring and declare, “Hilary, we have been through many adventures together, and the greatest are yet to come. Will you join the rebel alliance as my wife?” Bonus dialogue: if she says “I love you,” I’ll reply, “I know.” (This will, incidentally, be engraved on the inside of the rings.) She shouts yes, to much applause and cheering from the spectators.

The sudden noise alerts the real storm troopers who exclaim, “Where’d she go? Spread out!” At that, I grab Hilary’s hand, and we run to the getaway car (carefully placed nearby). In my dream, we get in and speed away, the camera pans out and a voice over says, “The Ford Escape, for when the fate of the galaxy depends on it. Plan your escape today, at Ford.com…”

It was at this point, that I opened my eyes, completely awake, a huge smile on my face and declared to my bedroom that I was going to make this happen. I’m not committed to it being a car commercial, or a commercial at all. But I figured this would be a pretty good marketing or social media campaign concept for a bunch of products.

The two specific things which are important to me are the proposal and getting the whole thing recorded (professionally if possible). Of course, this would make a great commercial, and just in time for this year’s Star Wars Movie. So, if anyone has any thoughts on how I might make this a reality, or know anyone who could help, I would really appreciate the support! I'm looking for all the partners I can find. Thank you!
