1. I posted photos of my converted E-11 kit in my ANH Sandy build thread here...http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/33004-dans-anh-sandy-build/

Ive taken a closer look at the E-11's in here and there are deff, some differences. My question for the 501st weapon experts is, based on what you see in the pics, will my E11 meet 501 standards or did I waste my money on the conversion kit?

I followed some instructions I found online specifically for attaching the Droopy Doo kit to an old Hasbro Toy Gun that requuired me to cut a new section of holes in the barrel, modify the barrel tip, and clean out the rail track. Looking on the MEPD qualifications (which is the lvl Im shooting for) it says no ESB or ROTJ greeblies allowed,....what the hell are those, and are they present on my gun?

Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Thanks for the welcomes!

Im very impressed with the wealth of information on this site. My only complaint is that I didn't find it sooner.

I have to say, if you strip out the love for Star Wars, the fact that its for charity, or the fact that you can sport around in the coolest armor to ever grace the big screen,... without ALL of that, the 501st would still be worth it due to the fact that its members are the most generous, accepting, and encouraging group I have ever seen. I was a firefighter for three years and I'm a County Deputy now, so I know about comradery, ..and the 501st has it! Thanks again everyone and keep it up!

  3. I mirror this welcome....I am in Apex, NC. I choose a Sandy for my first build. I think it's a little more work that a TK because of the additional painting and weathering, but Im an artist-so that's my thing anyway. Additionally, all the mistakes I have made in my build will look intentional in a Sandy!! It has been quite a journey but I should be done in the next couple of weeks.

How are you coming on your build? If you have any questions or just need a sympathetic ear to the many frustrations building an ANH set of armor can bring, from one newbie to another...email me anytime. moseisleylawdog@gmail.com

  4. I have the Humbrol paint numbers, but like Airborne did, I am trying to find a suitable substitute locally. Worst case scenario, I will just buy the set from trooperbay.com

Consequently, the numbers are Humbrol paint #21/Glossy Black, Humbrol paint #5/Dark Admiral Grey, and Humbrol paint # 14/French Blue.

  5. The second thing I started is my helmet. These are the initial production photos. I have since attached the ears and replaced the brow trim with the correct size. I just received my green glass for the eyes, frown screen, and mic tips to finish it off. Im shopping for the paints. Has anyone found colors that are a close match to the Humbrol paint colors ?....Im trying to find something local.

  6. I started this build back in 2013, and have a few photos of the finished E-11 and the start of my helmet. I picked the project back up on early August and have been going gangbusters ever since. I have taken some production photos of my progress mostly in concert with questions for my GML.

My E-11 was the first thing I built using a Hasbro gun fitted with a DroopyDoo's mod kit. I still need to add the wires and a bolt.

  7. Hello fellow Troopers/perspective Troopers and greetings from North Carolina.

So after dreaming about owning a suit of Sandtrooper armor since I was like 5...and admiring the spirit of the 501st for years, I took the plunge in 2013. Despite doing a fair amount of research, (Though I missed this site some how) back in 2013, I ended up buying what I now know to be a recast. With the knowledge I have now, I will of coarse never do that again...but despite that admitted mistake...I got lucky and actually received a decent pull for my investment.

I built my E-11 and put together my arms and helmet before I had to put the project down in 13' due to "life"... as it tends to happen. But a month and a half ago I picked it back up with a fervor and passion. Driven to finish and get deployed before October, I have been working tirelessly almost every day after work to finish. For those new members that haven't started yet or are about to start, if you reading this..... the time investment estimations are no joke....I've logged at least 60 man hours and I am only about 85% there. As of today, my extremities are fully built and I just finished shimming out and piecing together the abdomen and kidney plate. All I have left is the strapping assembly of the chest, arms, and legs and then its off to the paint and weathering stage. I expect to be photo ready by the 20th.

Special shout out and thanks to Troopers Jim and Seth in NC...they have been an invaluable resource. And much thanks to my GML Jason Hill, who has patiently and informatively answered a ton of build and reg questions.

To other newbies, keep plugging away,..I wish I found this site a lot sooner, so you have a jump on where I was when I started. Looking forward to chatting with everyone and hopefully rubbing elbows with some of you guys in the field.
