I would say my building skills are nil.

I am interested in purchasing some armor. I would like to eventually become 501st and participate in community outreach events. I am curious about purchasing finished armor. Is there a negative? Do people by kits because they love the hobby of the build? Is there a difference? I am 5'10" 170 any advice would be much appreciated.
