  1. I know there has been some issues with Anovos shins being inconstantly numbered, and I can see Troopermaster and Ukswrath are still hashing things out.

Here's my shins, how they were numbered when I got them, and where they should be according to Anovos construction guide.  Seems like mine have been misnumbered. How do I need to assemble them?

  2. For reference from a local shop that also does a decent amount of business online, electroplating a plastic oil cap runs about $30.  A motorcycle front fender around $270.  Now imagine all the pieces in that suit.

The other options I'm aware of for ABS are Vacuum Metalizing, which usually require you run a large batch to make them affordable (this is how most plastic products you buy that come with a chrome finish are done), or one of the better chrome paints, but they'll give you more of a brushed finish than mirror.

  3. They also had a very short window to get the build done, and limited point of reference, adding to the difficulty of getting a proper fitting build.

I believe Anovos is also still tweaking the design for the GA version.

Also, adding to the confusion, apparently there were different sized helmets used during production, and the one Anovos got is the larger of them.  (Accoding to a post by them on the RPF)

  4. Someone take a look at her inner right shin/boot. Notice anything unusual yet oh-so-familiar?

** Hint: It rhymes with "duct tape". :P

Hard to tell, but looks to me more like foil tape.

For those wanting to build this, I can't imagine how much money you're going to have to spend getting a proper chrome finish.  Not something you can spray out of a can.

  5. I'm putting this in NCO Club, since this isn't for a Stormtrooper helmet.  Two questions in regards to some of the cheaper vinyl helmets out there.  I'm not sure how different this is from ABS:

    1.  Best adhesive to use to apply either foam or hard hat liner to the inside of one of these helmets?

    2.  Some of the older helmets get a sticky quality to the unpainted portions.  Is that just normal?  Is there some spray or other treatment I should apply that will increase longevity or help with the stickness?

  6. Funny story - I was thinking about this on the way to the store, so I asked the clerk...

Do you think more 501st people buy Star Wars toys or just normal parents buying toys for their kids?

She knew what the 501st was?  The clerk (sorry, cast member), I got looked at the StormTrooper helment and goes "Oh, you must really like Jedi!".  And on my way out told me she was looking forward to the new "jedi movie".

And then just google video search "Disney stormtrooper voice change mask" and there's a YouTube clip of that one in action (save for the voice changer, which only clicks afterwards but is much louder than I expected)

In addition to the loud static when you release the button, it also plays some variable white noise when the button is held down but you aren't talking.  It is really subtle and could be easily overlooked if in a semi-noisy environment.

  7. I picked one up today as well as the voice changing mask.  Thanks for the heads up CN about where to find them!  I actually really like the voice changing helmet, for $25 I should be able to gut it and mount it later in a real helmet as a nice budget alternative to an icomm.  My wife liked it enough that she told me I have to wear it the next time we have sex, and she's not even a Star Wars fan.  (Or maybe she just doesn't want to see my face?  TMI?)

For the blaster, I'm in no rush to update it.  Hopefully between now and winter someone will come out with a purpose built kit to mod it.
